The Missing Crown ⚜ Ch. 12

Royal Academy Diaries II

Teyrn left the dorm with his head in the clouds. Who knew having a petite little dark haired witch hug you could inspire such a range of lovely feelings? He left feeling strong, capable, and rather like a king, he thought.

With this soaring feeling, he decided to make a detour on his way back. Rather than going towards the classrooms, he went to the dining hall instead. There were no guards out there so far from entrances and places of importance, so he was left entirely alone. On the large blank wall on the other side of the stairs, he used the inkwell and reaching spells to write out a message.

Smirking, he hurried back to the dorms. As soon as he was back in his room, he collapsed in bed and slept more soundly than he had in days.

That morning, there was a huge uproar at breakfast. Everyone was talking about the writing on the wall.

Teyrn smirked to himself on his way to class, wondering how many rules he had broken last night. Faline found him before first hour, all excited.

"Teyrn! Did you see it? In the dining hall. Everyone's talking about it!" Lowering her voice she said, "It seems you weren't the only one sneaking around last night."

Playing along, he raised a brow. "Hm. The door to the hall was open when I came back."

Her hazel eyes were wide. "I can't believe it. What were you saying about revolution? Well it seems like that's exactly what someone wants. 'Ireland will have a king again'... It gives me chills."

"Well, I think whoever it is must know what they're doing if they're to accomplish something of that importance. They must have good reason for it too. It does't sound scary to me."

She considered this and shrugged. "It's certainly interesting... So anyway, I um, wanted to ask you something."

He smiled. "Anything." Geez could I be crushing on her any harder?

Faline glanced across the hall at the bulletin. "I saw that for this term's year end ball, they're having a Masque."

"Yes, I just saw that this morning." He grinned. "And your question?"

She hesitated, a blush tinting her cheeks. "I um, was going to ask if you'd asked anyone...? It seems to be popular lately to go with other groups or couples, so..."

Teyrn tried not to smirk. "Who asked you? What about those fellows that took you to the other dances?"

She made a face. "Oh, well, Amadeo, Kai, and Abdul, they're friends, I guess. Okay, except that one guy. But never mind them."

He chuckled and raised a brow. "I'll be your date, if that's what you're asking."

Her blush deepened. "Uh well, um I guess yeah that's what I meant. You would? I mean you don't have to-"

He put his hands on her shoulders, grinning. "Yes. Final answer."

Faline chuckled embarrassedly and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Okay. Oh, and thanks again for last night," she said quietly. "I slept better than I have in weeks. With no nightmares."

"Good," he smiled. The bell rang and he looked back at his class. "I'll see you later."

"Alright. Bye."

He watched her go, biting his lip. Why was she so unbearably adorable to him? With a small grin, he turned to go to government class, ready to answer all their questions on how changing Ireland back to a monarchy would work. Carefully.
