Champion ⚜ Ch. 7

Laora went to her government and law class at the start of break, pulling books of of the professor's shelves. Some people from the last class hadn't left, and raised brows at her.

"Laora? What are you doing here, studying?" a girl asked.

She looked up from the books, a bit embarrassed. "Just looking for some answers, is all."

A nobleman raised a brow. "You find yourself in legal trouble, Countess?"

She shook her head. "Not me. It's... complicated."

The girl gave her a look. "Whatever you say. Come on James, let's go find the others."

Once they left, Laora could hardly hold back the tears. Surely there was a way she could fight back against Drake. Marrying him or winning the most difficult competition she'd ever entered couldn't be the only options. She just cried for a few minutes, her fear and anger spilling over.

Pulling herself together, she pulled out the law books and flipped to sections on debt, trying to find out what was technically legal. As she read, she tried to take Drake's attorney mindset, finding loopholes, using creative wording.

And to her disappointment, there were some loopholes she had no defense against.

She was trapped.
