The Missing Crown ⚜ Ch. 2

Royal Academy Diaries II

As much as Teyrn enjoyed school at the Magic Academy, this year had to be different, he knew. Sitting in his dorm before the others arrived, he opened the stone box to look at his crown. The gold gleamed in the light of the window. It was imposing and complicated and so simple all at once. A bit paranoid, he closed the box again and tucked it under his bed, casting a disinterest spell over it to deter curious maids and roommates.

While looking down, he undid the brooch on his lapel, re-pinning it to the inside of his jacket instead to be less obtrusive. The moment he finished this, someone opened the door.

His first roommate walked in with one of his bags. "Oh, hey. I didn't know anyone was here. I'm Joseph Odhiambo. Kenya."

"I'm Teyrn Calaghan of Ireland." They shook hands, and he used the opportunity to size him up. Joseph looked intelligent, probably a bookworm. Likely goes to bed late. That could be a problem.

Two more walked in soon after.

"Hey, this seems bigger than last year," a blonde said.

The other smirked. "You're about a foot taller than you were at the end of last year, so... By all accounts it doesn't make sense. Hi, I'm Viggo of Finland, this is Callan of Lanova. We're gonna go prowl for princesses. Please excuse us."

These two might be up late too, but were less likely to notice him in general. Teyrn sighed. He could do this.

Needing a distraction, he went over to his desk and pulled out one of his new notebooks. He'd already set out his mother of pearl magic inkwell - more refined in its power than basic aluminum. In the back pages, he started sketching new flags for his kingdom.

The chaos of moving in went on around him for a while as students poured into the dorms. But then something drifted into his consciousness that made him pause. Somewhere in the distance, he could hear a girl singing.
