Chapter 3
Melting Mercury
Willow
I walked into my sister's office, not bothering to knock. Catching her attention.
"Um, Arlo can I have a word?"
"Sure, let me just-
I watched as she struggled to tighten the straps around her thighs. She let out little grunts of frustration as I bit back a chuckle. "I'm sorry It's just not-" She finally locked in the last strap and began to pant in exhaustion "You think I'm getting fat?"
I snort "Oh definitely" She rolled her eyes and I smirked at her "It's nothing you can't fix anyway".
"Is there a reason why you're speaking to me right now or do you just enjoy my suffering?" She huffed.
"Both" I snickered "But anyways I just wanted to speak to you about the mission". A flash of worry went across her face.
"Shit did something go wrong?" She began to look at her watch "Did we miscalculate the bus departure?" Her paranoia was almost cute.
"No, everything is going great" I walked past her to look out a window we were nearby "I just think you shouldn't come with us on this one" I murmured. I closed my eyes to avoid seeing the hurt on her face.
"W-why?" She whimpered.
I nearly groaned at the tone of her voice. She sounded on the verge of tears, it was slightly pathetic. But then again she's always been quite emotional. "No Arlo it's not like that".
"Then how is it like? Why on earth would you ask me not to come?" She grabbed my shoulder "Aye don't bullshit me, Willow, what the fuck did I do?"
"Nothing!" I swept her hand off my shoulder "I worded it wrong, I don't think you should come with us on this one because you have a bigger one tomorrow" I explained. Her face visibly softened and her stance changed to a less defensive one.
"Gosh, I thought you were turning on me or something" She went to twirl one of my locks around her finger "But my little sister is just worried about me" She cooed mockingly.
"I'm not worried about shit but the mission" I grumbled.
"Sure, you big baby" She snorted "I still don't understand why I can't come to this one though" She jumped up to sit on the windowsill.
"Look" I took a deep breath "The mission tomorrow's bigger than this one, last thing I need is you fucking it up because you can barely keep your eyes open" I laughed.
Please buy it.
She tilted her head at me "Okay you have a good point there" She shoved me lightly with her elbow "Okay you sneaky little shit, I'll stick this one out, you owe me big time though."
I rolled my eyes jokingly "Yeah yeah, we'll see when you wake up tomorrow with a good nights rest" She jumped off the railings and dragged my head closer so she could peck the top of it.
God's I hated when she did that.
No, I don't.
"Okay okay, but you stay safe though" She warned me, giving me a serious eye "Keep your eyes peeled and try not to get some claws in your back" I nodded my head. This has to be the fifteenth time I heard this lecture.
A knock came on her door and she shot me a smile. "Duty calls" I nodded in understanding, proceeding to the door "Bring me back a souvenir okay? Least you could do whilst you're out there having all the fun without me".
"Sure thing Captain" I mock saluted her. I turned my back as a small smirk came onto my face.
Oh, I'm going to have some fun tonight.
We all dropped in on a helicopter and the plan went on as we hoped it would. All the wolfsbane cure was smashed into little pieces. And I couldn't help but find a small tinge of happiness as the solution to one of my lives best work slid down the trucks, ruined.
Perfect.
"Aye newbie!" A young boy, who couldn't be older than sixteen perked up at my calling. He turned around in alarm and looked even more shocked as he realised I was talking to him. "How's your aim?"
He gaped at me for a few seconds before stuttering "U-um best in my group ma'am"
I smirked "Awesome, take this" I handed him my crossbow full of the sleep poison we were going to hit the werewolves with "The wolves are gonna bounce back soon and Imma need you to fill in for me and knock them out with this kay?
He nodded vigorously as I placed the weapon in his arms, ignoring how he struggled to lift it. "Don't fuck this up okay? Or else my buddies over there are gonna have to kill them and their blood will be on your hands" I threatened "I don't want them dead but if they end up dead I'll personally use your blood to make my next batch of poisons".
Little man pissed his pants.
I looked at the motorcycle beside him "This yours?" He nodded and I smiled "Great I'm going to borrow it for tonight is that fine?" He nodded again. I rolled my eyes at his lack of replies.
Fucking pussy.
"Keys?" I snapped. The smooth metal was placed in my hand and I shoved it into the ignition. "Thanks for the help, if anyone asks, tell them I'll catch up".
I drove away without his reply. Or mostly likely nod. The dust flew behind me as I raced down the streets with my bazooka strapped to my back. It was hard to sneak it on the helicopter but no one dared to question me. I brushed it off by telling them it was 'just in case'.
Soon enough the bright lights of the large luna pack hospital reached my sights. It was truly a sight to see, it was huge and clearly technologically advanced. Which made me sizzle with anger as I thought of the health centre back at the base that barely had the supplies to help the sick kids.
I thought of the even sicker humans that lived in the slum of werewolf packs, nursing their wounds with nothing but leaves and ripped pieces of their own clothing and I knew these bastards had to pay.
The truck had obviously reached there before me. A bunch of the doctors had come out to take the crates of supplies. The other doctors stood by the truck driver and seemed to be shouting at him as he frantically spoke to them.
I could already hear the conversation now. We'd make headlines by tomorrow and the werewolf world will be thrown into chaos by midnight. Midday if I burn enough of the forest.
I popped my bubblegum loudly as I ran to hide in the bushes by the hospital and unstrapped the bazooka from my back. I started to load it with explosives enough to blow up this entire building, including this forest. I made sure to add a bit of wolfsbane in it just in case some of these wolves managed to escape the flames.
Resilient dogs they are.
I hoisted up the bazooka on my shoulder and lined up the sight with my eye, closing my other one for better aim. A small smirk bloomed on my lips as I thought about how this would look on the news tomorrow. My finger hovered over the trigger as I blew another bubble.
For the cause. I thought as I pulled the trigger.
