chapter 8

I frowned. When did she get a car seat? And why do I fit perfectly inside of it. I shrugged and grabbed the tablet mommy handed me and I went to YouTube kids.

Lyla's POV

I looked back and saw that Brandy was sleeping, her tablet lay in her lap and her fingers hanging from her mouth. She looked so adorable.

I thought it was best she get a small nap in before we went into the store anyway to avoid potential temper tantrums. I got out of the car and walked around to Brandy's side. Opening the door, I slightly shook the sleeping girl hoping to wake her up. She only sat there, still fast asleep. I chuckled at her and unbuckled her car seat buckles.

Soon enough she jolted awake. Yawning and rubbing her eyes she reached out for me to pick her up.

"Mama where goin?" She said clinging to me sleepily as I picked her up from her car seat. She laid her head against my chest.

"Where going shopping baby girl, you need some more supplies."

I walked into the agere mall with brandy on my hip and went into a little clothing and supply store. I grabbed a basket to put brandy in.

"No! No! Mama hol'! No!" Brandy said kicking her legs around to prevent me from setting her into the basket.

"Brandy Rain Jefferson, if you don't sit your booty in this basket right now we will go into the bathroom and you'll come out with a sore bottom." I scolded. We were in public, I will deal with her misbehaving at home sometimes but we will not be doing this in public.

Brandy's face scrunched up and she let out a loud sob. I set her in the basket and pulled out her pink pacifier. I noticed it was a bit chewed up and decided we were going to buy new ones.

"I know you want mama to hold you, but we need to shop and I will hold you afterwards, if you're good I'll get you a few toys." I said slipping the comfort item in her  mouth. She sniffled and rubbed her eyes. I could tell she was sleepy and smaller than usual in her headspace.

Looking up from her I could see looks gazing our way, I shot them a look of my own back, and quickly the people staring started to mind their own business.

I pushed the basket towards the supply aisle and seen a wall of diapers and pull ups. We never discussed this while she was big, so I got two packs of diapers and pull ups in her size in case she wanted to try them after a discussion.

One pack of diapers were pink and had princesses on them and the other pack we're plain white with alphabet blocks on the top. And the pull ups were both Minnie mouse.

I pushed the cart again over to another aisle.

"Baby look there's some pacifiers. Which ones do you want love?" I asked softly pulling the current one in her mouth out so I can understand her.

She didn't speak but only pointed to a 4 pack of multi colored pacifiers and a 3 pack of cloud themed pacifiers.

Setting the packs into the basket I moved on to bottles and sippy cups. I tossed in a two pack of pink and white sippy cups and a two pack of pink and purple bottles that had alphabet blocks on them.

I could tell Brandy was getting impatient so I wanted to quickly move on to the clothes and then some things she can do while little.

I grabbed a few items for her to try on. I grabbed a pair of purple denim overalls with a white onesie that had ruffles on the sleeves, a two pack of purple and blue cloud sleepers that had buttons on the crotch for easy changes, I grabbed three skirts, one was an red and white easy slip on skirt. One was a denim skirt with flowers embroidered on the side pocket. And one that was a little purple tutu.

I also grabbed a five pack of onesies, one was a plain pink onesie, one was pink and had purple, blue and dark pink butterflies on it, one was purple with pink glittery letters that said "mommy's little princess", one had a white onesie with a black glittery heart and a glittery necklace printed on the collar, and the last one had a long sleeve white onesie that said "beautiful butterfly" with pink and purple butterflies all over it.

I thought these were cute, maybe I went a little overboard but I wanted her to have a lot of little clothes and things so she'd feel more comfortable.

I grabbed a four pack of sweatpants, black, grey, white, and pink as well for the cold.

I seen a pretty white puffer jacket and places it into the basket as well. I grabbed a three pack sleeper set and placed it in the basket. I decided I wasn't going to make her try them on seeing it was starting to get late and we had already been in the store a good thirty minutes.

"Mama home." Brandy whined.

"Soon baby, soon." I kissed her forehead.

I went to the toy aisle and set her onto the floor so she can pick out a few.

"Now, I want you to pick out three toys, okay?" I lifted her chin to make sure she was meeting my eyes.

She nodded and started eyeballing the shelves. I looked around and seen two coloring books she might like and I placed them in the basket.

"Mama we get dis?" Brandy came back with a big barbie dream house.

I didn't want to say no because it was too big to put inside the basket.

"Baby, that's not going to fit into the baske-" I started.

Brandy zoomed off faster than I could breathe and came back with a worker.

"Brandy Rain! Never again run off like that do you understand me?!" I scolded. I couldn't even grab her, if she would've gotten lost I didn't know what I'd do.

She only pouted and played with her tutu.

The worker looked a bit uncomfortable and spoke.

"Hi my name is Ashlynn how can I help you today?" The woman spoke.

I sighed running a hand through my hair.

"Is it possible you guys could ship this to our home?" I asked. I did say she could pick out three toys, I just didn't expect her to pick out a giant item.

The lady nodded and took down the address I gave her.

"It'll be there by tomorrow afternoon, anything else I can help you with?" She smiled.

"No that's all thank you so much." I returned the smile as the lady walked away.

"Mama?" I heard a small voice followed behind a tug on my sleeve.

"Yes baby?" I responded picking her up.

"I sorry, I jus try help." She said tearing up.

"I know bug, mama knows. But you can never ever run off like that without Mama's permission okay?" I kissed her forehead and set her down after she nodded.

"Now go ahead and pick out your other two toys and we can go home."

Brandy came back with two Barbie dolls that came with three outfits each. I sighed and chuckled. I knew I'd have to be careful not to step on any barbie parts.

Brandy placed the toys into the basket and skipped along side me to the check out.

I picked up some baby lotion, baby powder, and bubble bath on the way to check out.

***********Time skip to home*************

After carrying all of the items into the house I ran Brandy a bubble bath.

"Mama it ups!" Brandy came running to me handing me a pack of her pull ups.

"You wanna wear one baby?" I asked not sure if that's what she meant.

She nodded and smiled widely.

"Okay baby, c'mon let's get you bathed and into your pjs for bedtime okay?"

Brandy nodded and quickly took off her clothes, getting stuck in her shirt.

"Mama help!!" She whined panicking.

I chuckled and pulled the shirt off of her head and set her into the water.

I quickly bathed her and took her out wrapping her into a towel.

"Okay baby, off to the bedroom." I said pushing her towards the door so she'd go that way.

I laid out one of her new sleepers. It was a creme color with clouds and moons all over. And brown cursive writing that said "sleepy baby" on it. I pulled one of the pull ups on her and put the sleeper on her.

"Okay baby let's fix this hair of yours."

"No no!" Brandy said.

I grabbed her arm before she could run.

"Baby I have to fix your hair c'mon." I sat her down and took the bow out of her hair and I took out the ponytail holders that held her hair together, loosening her curls.

I grabbed the leave in conditioner and argan oil and began to section her hair and oil it and put the leave in conditioner. I then put to loose braids in her hair for the night.

She quickly jumped up and got into the bed.

"You sleep too?" The small girl yawned.

I chuckled and laid next to her pulling her into my arms.

"Yes baby, I sleep too." I kissed Brandy's forehead as she cuddled into me, closing her eyes.

Heyyyyy I'm so sorry I haven't been posting according to the days I'm supposed to I haven't been feeling it mentally and I needed a break, pls don't hate me y'all 😭. But we are officially at 900 reads!!! I will never understand why so many of you like this story but I'm glad you do like it!! Comment what you guys want to see in future chapters!! I tried to insert pictures but my phone completely glitched :') but I hope you guys enjoyed this story and are having an amazing morning, afternoon or night whatever it is when you read this.
