Elgin nodded and picked up the fruit knife lying nearby. âThrow it out. From now on, nothing sharp is
allowed in this room. Nothingâ
He had known all along that Letitia had stashed a blade under her pillow, but he kept mum and didnât
confiscate it.
Because Elgin thought.. if she was planning to off him with it, heâd give her the shot.
Whoâd have guessed that, Letitia would flip the script and try killing herself instead of him.
Elginâs palm was swathed in layers of bandages.
Yet, even so, blood had soaked through, painting the bandages red.
âIâm not taking you down, and youâre not letting me die,â Letitiaâs voice floated in the air, light as a
feather, âElgin, do you plan to stick with me forever?â
âYeah.â
âWhatâs the point?â
His voice was heavy as lead, âBecause you gotta stick by me.â
Letitia bit her lower lip. âBut I donât love you, I hate you. And I canât even deal with your love!â
âHate me all you want my love for you is plenty.â
Letitia challenged him, âArenât you scared that one day, Iâll take a stab at your heart again?â
Hearing this. Elgin actually cracked a smile, âI gotta remind you of something, unless I let it happen,
nobody can touch me. You got to hurt me this time because I allowed it, get it?â
âElgin, how does it feel to have everything under your thumb, huh?â
Letitia glared at him hard. Everything under his control, his eagle eye never missing a beat.
No surprises, no slip-ups, does that feel good for him?
âI canât control you Elgin answered, âLetitia, youâre the wild card in my life.â
He stood up, eye to eye with her, âAnd you know what? I gave you the chance to do me in, to snatch
my heart. But you didnât seize it, soâ¦
no more second chances.
âLetitia, now itâs my turn to steal your heart.â Elginâs tone was oozing confidence and ease.
Letitia grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him, âI canât stand the sight of you, Elgin⦠Youâre the devil,
pure evil through and through!â
âYouâve got a lifetime to get a taste of the devilâs love.â
Elgin left, his footsteps growing fainter. But the number of bodyguards at the door had doubled
Two servants arrived at the ward, tending to Letitia around the clock, but really, they were keeping tabs
on her.
Letitia had become a caged canary. She had no freedom, no dreams, just living in Elginâs keep.
Letitia stood in front of the mirror, eyeing the wound on her neck.
It was shallow, barely worth noting
Truth is⦠she couldnât bear to die. She just wanted to see Elginâs reaction, to test the love he
professed. Surprisingly, he caught the knife barehanded, thwarting her death
âElgin⦠do you really love me that much?â Letitia muttered to herself, âThen, your love will be my
weapon. The weapon Iâll use to hurt youâ¦
Her fingertips gently traced the wound. With her child gone, all she wanted was revenge, to unearth the
truth, to reclaim the simple life that was rightfully hers!
She couldnât possibly love Elgin. How could she love a devil!
At the Ramirez Group.
When Elgin showed up at the company entrance, the receptionists were gobsmacked.
âMr. Mr
He was still in that sapphire blue shirt, stained with blood, hands wrapped in bandages, his gaze dark
and brooding, looking like he just carpe back from a killing spree.
Mr Ramirez! Ranen rushed over in a tizzy. You an, the blood, the blood.
thin a frosty glance
Back in his office, Elgin changed into fresh clothes in the lounge and dove straight into work.
âMr. Ramirez, your hand⦠Ranen reminded him, âMaybe take a break? You dictate, Iâll do the typing.â
Elgin said flatly, âItâs not chopped off, and i wonât get crippled.â
Uh.. Mr. Ramirez, you sure are taking it well.â
Normal folks would be wailing if they were hurt like that.
âBecause it bought her safety.â Elgin spread his palm, âWorth it.â
Ranen didnât grasp it but didnât dare to pry further. But Ranen knew that âshe was the missus.
âCall Samson over.â
âRight.
Samson couldnât wait any longer, so as soon as Ranen called, he ran in the elevator to the top floor
âGin, you wanted to see me?â Samson asked, âWere you planning to camp out at the hospital these
days?â
âNo, Ill be coming into the office as usual, popping over to the hospital when I can.â
âYouâre not sticking with Letitia?â
Elgin paused before answering. âShe just gets sick of me.â
So, the plan was to visit less, linger less, get out of her hair,
Talk about groveling, Samson crossed his arms, âGin, if you knew this was how itâd be, why bother
starting anything?â
Elgin, imitated, chucked his pen across the desk.
Samson went on, âLook at your hand, it looks pretty badâ
Zip itâ
âIâll say what I want. We can see the wounds on your hand. But what about the ones in your heart?
Who knows? Who cares? Youâve got to deal with it alone.â
Samson had known Elgin for years and knew his temperament.
The more taboo the topic, the more heâd press, hitting Elgin where it hurt to make it stick.
âI told you before, Samson sighed, âliking someone is liking someone, loving a woman is the most
normal thing for a man, itâs nothing to be ashamed of. But you just had toâ¦â
âI ended her pregnancy to start over with her.â
âThat was her child, her whole world. You took it from her and you think you can just turn back the
clock?â
Elgin shot back, âSo Iâm supposed to accept that bastard child?â
âSee, thatâs where youâre clueless, Samson spread his hands, âYou couldâve investigated, used all your
connections to find out who the father was, even smeared the guy to make Letitia give up on him, make
her want the abortion. But you chose the most drastic route.
âI donât have the patience.â
âNow look at the mess youâre in, what are you gonna do now?â
Elgin pressed his temples, âPlay it by earâ
After a few seconds of silence, he asked, âYou got any ideas?â
âYo, Samsonâs tail perked right up. âSo now you remember I exist, your go-to strategist?â
Elgin chuckled, âWith your smooth talk and lady-killing charm, how come you havenât sealed the deal
with Vidonia yet?â
âWhat do I need to seal the deal with her for!?â
âDonât you want to?â Elgin shot back, âSheâs been going against me over and over again. If it werenât
for your sake, I wouldâve made her disappear from AquaCity a long time ago!â
Samson cleared his throat, âAnyway, weâre getting sidetracked. Letâs talk about you and Letitia
Elgin leaned back in his chair, looking totally wiped out.
