âHang in there, Elgin, the ambulance is on its way, any minute nowâ¦â Letitia muttered, âDo it for me,
will you? Donât doze off, hang toughâ¦â
She was scared to death.
Elgin wanted to clean her tears, but he just didnât have the strength. If he could even save his hand,
thatâd be a miracleâ¦
Letitia held him, her head against his cheek, just wanting to hold on to him tightly.
âWhyâd you have to go and play the fool⦠why? Shela tells you to hurt yourself and you just do it! And
then your went and pulled out the knife. Werenât you scared of bleeding out? Do you even care about
your hand? Listen up, Elgin, if you end up disabled, donât think I wonât hold it against you! You hear
me?! Youâve gotta pull through, you just have toâ¦â
Elgin mustered a weak smile, slowly closing his eyes again.
âLettyâ¦â he spoke with great effort slowly, âJust keep on, keep livingâ¦â
With that, Elgin closed his eyes, his hand falling to his side.
âElgin!â Letitiaâs voice pierced the night.
The ambulance arrived with a wail.
The medics loaded Elgin onto the ambulance, and Letitia followed, âIâm his wife, Iâm family! Let me
come with
him!
Just as the doors closed, she saw Shela lying on the ground.
Samson had rushed over.
Letitia breathed a sigh of relief. Let Samson handle the scene and heâd sort it all out.
She thought about it and tears fell once again.
All this must have been arranged by Elgin before he came to her rescue.
He met with Shela alone, playing down her guard while secretly arranging for bodyguards, which was
why so many of them stormed in at the last minute.
Inside, Elgin faced danger while Samson coordinated from outside.
They worked like a well-oiled machine.
Elgin was so thorough, covering every base.
âYou couldâve totally protected yourself, but for meâ¦â She couldnât finish her sentence.
His devil-like love was torture, but he also selflessly gave himself away.
The doctors quickly disinfected Elginâs wounds and stopped the bleeding, with blood-soaked cotton
balls thrown into the trash. What a gruesome sight!
Upon reaching the hospital, the doctors and nurses rushed Elgin straight to the operating room.
The door slammed shut with a clang.
Letitia gave out her legs and collapsed outside the surgery room.
The break of dawn was gradually unfolding, signaling the arrival of daylight.
*Elgin, youâve got to be okay, your hand has got to be savedâ¦â
She kept praying.
âHey, why are you on the floor?â a nurse passing by helped Letitia up, then noticed the blood on her
and gasped, âAre you hurt? Whereâs all this blood from?â
âItâs not mine, itâs⦠Letitia paused, âItâs my husbandâs.â
The dried blood on her clothes was from Elgin.
How could one person bleed so muchâ¦
âBut youâre hurt too,â the nurse observed. Your face, your neckâ¦â
Thatâs when Letitia remembered the knifeâs slashes
She touched her face, itâs a scratch, no big deal.â
Yeesh, Iâve never met a girl who does not care about her face. The nurse took her by the arm. âGirls
freak out over a pimple, and here you are with a gash and youâre not rushing to get stitches? Youâll
scar!â
âBut Iâ¦â
âLetâs get you patched up first!â
With the nurse insisting, Letitia sat in the ER while the doctor carefully dressed her wounds.
âThe neckâs fine, but your face⦠The doctor looked concerned. âIt might scar.â
âJust do it, doctor, Iâve got stuff to handle.â
âWhatâs more important than your face⦠wait, you need stitches.â
Letitia was anxious, wanting to be by the surgery door to wait for news about Elgin.
But the medical staff wouldnât let her leave.
Until Vidonia showed up and shouted, âLetitia! Are you okay? Whatâs with all the blood?â
âIâm fine, howâs Elgin?â
âSamson said the surgeryâs still going, donât freak out.â Vidonia was visibly worried. âI came as soon as
I heard. How could this dangerous situation have happened?â
Letitia looked down, âItâs a long story.â
âYour faceâ¦â
âVidonia, Iâm just disfigured. Thatâs the least of my worries.â Letitia replied, âElgin⦠his handâ¦â She
choked up, breaking her voice.
Vidonia squeezed her hand tightly, âEverythingâs gonna be okay and you wonât be disfigured.â
Letitia couldnât care less about her face at this point.
The doctor had just placed the gauze on her face when she pushed his hand away, âThatâs good
enough, I need to go.â
âWhoa, whoa, remember to come back daily to change the dressing!â
Letitia was already out the door.
âGot it, doctor,â Vidonia called after her, âIâll make sure she does!â
Then, Vidonia hurried after her.
Letitia returned to the surgery room door where Samson was already waiting.
âHowâs it going?â she asked. âHas the doctor come out?â
âNot yet, surgeryâs still underway.â
Letitia bit her lower lip, pale as a ghost.
âYou took a nasty hit to the face, Samson noted. âHe gonna be heartbroken when he sees it.â
âHe will see it, he will.
âDonât worry, weâve got the best surgeons from AquaCity on it.â
Letitia clasped her hands, âHis hand must be saved.â
Samson asked, puzzled, âHowâd he get hurt so bad? Shelaâs just a woman. How could she do that
much damage?â
Only Letitia knew what had happened. Thinking back to those moments⦠it was still horrific.
âHe did it to himself, Letitia murmured. âYeah, who could hurt him if he didnât want it? Whoâd have the
guts?â
Only Elgin would willingly do so.
Samson asked shockingly, âHe did it himself?â
Vidonia repeated again, âHe hurt himself?â
Both were dumbfounded.
âShela had me in a tight spot, first nicking my neck and then shredding my face⦠Elgin was scared
sheâd do me more harm, so he offered to swap places with me. But Shela worried she couldnât handle
him and made him self-harm before agreeing to the trade.
So, Elgin just went for it, stabbing himself with the knife, which went right through his arm. And he did a
lot of blood gush out.â
âDuring the swap, Shela pushed me out and was about to take him hostage when he just yanked the
knife out of his wound like it was nothing!â
Listening to Letitia spill the beans about the whole ordeal, Samson and Vidonia were gobsmacked.
