When Veronica got the address from Belinda, she immediately changed her clothes, grabbed her phone, and bolted out to find her grandma.
Marissa Blanchet was in her room, hand-making a piece of clothing for her not-yet-born great-
grandchild. She was sewing with all her heart.
Ellinor had run away from home. It was unclear whether she would return, but Marissa never stopped hoping. These unfinished clothes were her only solace.
âGranny!â Veronica burst into the room, startling Marissa so much that she pricked her finger with the needle.
âOuch! Veronica, why did you barge in like that?â Marissa expressed exasperation as she removed the needle, dabbing at the blood on her finger with a tissue.
Seeing this, Veronica immediately expressed concern. âAre you okay, Grandma?â
Marissa wiped the small amount of blood off her finger, tossed the tissue away, and frowned at Veronica, scolding. âIâm fine now, but one of these days youâre going to give me a heart attack! Donât you know how to knock?â
Veronica felt guilty and apologized. âIâm sorry, Grandma. I was in a rush!â
âAlright, spill it. Whatâs got you in such a tizzy?â
âGrandma! Ellinorâs back!â
Upon hearing this, Marissaâs eyes lit up. âWhat? Ellinorâs back? Where is she? Take me to her!â
With that, she started heading out the door.
âWait, Grandma! Hold your horses; let me finish! Ellinor hasnât come home; sheâs out at a restaurant with my brother.â
Marissa was overjoyed. âSo that means Theo knows Ellinorâs back too? Thatâs great! But why are they eating out? They should come home and eat. Iâll prepare Ellinorâs favorite dishes when they return tonight.â
Veronica felt a wave of frustration. âGrandma, itâs not as simple as you think. Belinda told me there might be some issues between them. They might be discussing ending their relationship!â
Marissaâs smile faded. âEnding? Ellinorâs about to give birth, and theyâre talking about ending things?
What could Theo be thinking? He finally found her, and instead of bringing her home, heâs talking about ending things?!â
Veronica took her grandmaâs arm. âThatâs why Belinda wants me to take you there, so you could put some pressure on my brother to apologize to Ellinor, or she might leave again and he wonât be able to find her!â
Marissa made a swift decision. âAlright! Iâm going! I must go! Veronica, take me to Ellinor now!â
Veronica couldnât help but chuckle at how anxious her usually composed grandma was. âGrandma, youâre rushing so much that you forgot your coat! Donât worry, Belindaâs there; they wonât leave right away.â
Without giving a thought to her appearance, Marissa grabbed a coat from her wardrobe, put it on, and hurriedly pulled Veronica out the door.
However, as soon as they stepped out of the room, they ran into Sophia, who was carrying two boxes of pastries to visit Marissa.
Sophia greeted them with a polite smile. âWhere are you off to in such a hurry?â
Marissa looked a bit conflicted. âVeronica and I have something to take care of. Sophia, what brings you here?â
Sophia cheerfully lifted the boxes of pastries. âI managed to get these popular pastries that everyoneâs raving about, and I thought Iâd bring some for you to try!â
