Balfour felt the fire burning in his chest; Nolanâs blatant gaze was something he couldnât believe Ivy was oblivious to it.
âFor me, heâs just a guy friend who occasionally checks in on me, makes sure Iâm okay. Whatâs wrong with that? Or do you think I donât deserve someoneâs concern?â
Ivyâs lips paled; she was already feeling under the weather, and now she had to muster her energy to argue with Balfour.
Balfour certainly noticed her discomfort, and he didnât want to fight with Ivy. However, seeing her defend Nolan at every turn made him uneasy.
âDoesnât your defense of him prove something? Look, I donât want to argue right now. Just get some rest.â
With that, he left the hospital room, leaving Ivy alone, gasping for breath.
Ivy felt unjustly treated.
She couldnât understand why they had to argue over someone else as soon as they saw each other.
She so hoped he would stay by her side, and Balfour did seem to have hurriedly packed things from home.
Why couldnât they both be a little more honest?
If they had just talked it out, they wouldnât have parted on such bad terms.
As soon as Balfour left the room, he went to the nurseâs station to find a doctor and Elara.
âSheâs looking a bit weak. Could you please check on her?â
Elara eyed the man with the icy demeanor, who seemed like heâd just had an argument.
Their office was close to Ivyâs room, positioned so they could provide immediate assistance in an emergency. They had clearly heard the commotion from the room.
Despite his apparent concern for lvy, rushing home to grab her belongings with his tie askew, why would he choose to argue with her at such a critical moment?
The doctor told him that it was best not to upset Ivy at this time; her mood needed to remain stable.
Balfourâs gaze tightened, âIâm sorry, it wonât happen again.â
The doctor smiled, âApologizing to me is useless; you need to apologize to the lady in the room.â
Balfour didnât nod immediately; instead, he urged the doctor to go in and check on her.
He waited alone outside the room until the doctor confirmed she was alright, then hesitantly left.
Balfour headed straight for Ivyâs film set.
Colton and the producer had been discussing how to handle the situation.
In the midst of their talk, Balfour made his unexpected appearance.
âMr. Howard!â
Balfour entered the office with an air of frost and was immediately ushered to the head seat.
âWhatâs the progress on your investigation?â
The producer said, âNo leads so far, Mr. Howard. As you know, several people had issues with Ivy before, and without any eyewitnesses to this incident, itâs like finding a needle in a haystack.â
Balfour didnât respond immediately; instead, he tapped constantly on the table.
âSo youâre saying⦠youâve got nothing for me.â
Colton braced himself, âIâm sorry, itâs just that weâ¦â
Balfour waved his hand, âIâm not interested in apologies. If you lack the capability, then donât interfere with my actions from now on.â
Colton became anxious, âBút, Mr. Howard, this is a film set, after all. Ivy would surely want us to finish the movie smoothly.â
