"I'm addicted to you... don't you know that you're toxic?"
I screamed at the top of my lungs and bobbed my head to the rhythm. My nails tapped on the steering wheel, the sounds filling the car.
The road was dark and I just realised how stupid I was to take this path. I can't blame anyone but myself for wanting to drive longer.
Driving was like a therapy for me.
Just as I started singing again, my phone started to ring.
"Really? Just when the best part hits." I murmured to myself and grabbed my phone. I pressed on the green button and answered it.
"Hellooo!" I said and waited for Gigi to talk.
"Where are you, Delia?" She whispered in the speaker and I heard a door close in the other side.
I leaned back on the leather seat and let out a sigh. "Currently on a pretty abandoned road. I'm on my way home." Felicia's party was boring and I decided to leave earlier.
It was only 11 pm which was rare for me to be home on a Saturday night at this time.
"Malinda, Richard and Antonio are here. They stayed for dinner." Gigi informed me and I rolled my eyes.
"What does Antonio want now? Did he said something in front of dad and mom?"
"He acted like a wounded kitten. He even gifted dad a new Rolex." Antonio was my ex boyfriend and dumped me couple of months ago just because I apparently couldn't keep up with him and couldn't give him the attention he needed.
Jerk.
What was there to keep up with? Boring golf games and stupid meetings with his "bros" at the Serenity Club.
He actually did me a favour by breaking up but now he acts like it was all my fault.
It's what he is best at. Blaming people for his actions.
"Did he said something else? Something that will earn him a good kick to his nuts? Because I'm in a mood for that." A quiet giggle echoed through the speaker and I joined her.
Gigi was my younger sister and just started high school. She was fifteen and five years and exactly five days younger than me.
"No, he knows that I'll immediately tell you. But he did mentioned that he wanted to take you out next week."
"In his dreams." I muttered and started to plan how I'll get home without anyone noticing me because there was no way I was going to say hello to them and actually appear in front of his mom. She'll chew my ears about not attending her ladies club.
"Okay drive safe. I have to go now."
"Byee." I said back and hung up.
The song started to play again and I smacked my lips together. My eyes went to the small rearview mirror and I checked if my lipstick was still intact.
Britney Spears' voice filled the car yet again and my mind went to college. I had few exam coming up and I had to figure how to organise my time to actually study.
A weird sound reached my ears and it was definitely not part of the song.
The cars started to slow down. "No, no, no." I repeated and moved the car to the side of the road till it completely stopped.
What the heck?
I tried to start it but the struggling sounds of the engine were dying down.
Not this car.
It was Lamborghini 350 GT 1967. My favourite.
"What should I do now?" My heart hammered against my chest and I looked around. I was on a completely empty place. No other car in sight.
There was not even any lights. Just the moon shining above me.
What possessed me to get here? A whine escaped my lips and I slammed my hands on the steering wheel.
Great.
The only thing that is missing is a serial killer to find me and dump my body somewhere in the woods.
Never in my twenty years of life have I found myself in this type of situation. I usually did everything to piss off my parents but this is not been something I would have done.
Alone, stranded in a strange place with a broken car.
A perfect start for a horror movie.
I grabbed my phone and went look for mechanics nearby. My nails tapped on the screen and I nervously chewed on the inside of my cheek.
There were three numbers and I pressed on the first one. It started to ring but after few seconds the line went dead.
"Ughh!"
I pressed on the second number and did the same. Leaning my head back and I prayed the this one will answer. It was Saturday night and definitely not a time for work but there must be someone who can help me.
There was no way I was going to call my parents and all of my friends were at the party, probably drunk. Well definitely drunk.
Just before the line was going to end, a voice spoke from the other side.
"Yeah?" A strong, rough voice spoke.
"Um, hi, hello. My car broke and I need you to come here and fix it." I blabbed on. Was this what I was supposed to say? Whatever.
"I don't work tonight." He answered bored and almost wanted to hung up before I stopped him.
"Wait! Come on. Are you going to leave me here alone at this hour of the day? I'm a young lady, completely alone on an empty road. What if someone gets here and murders me? How are you going to live with that?" I mastered my voice to sound like I was on the verge of crying.
He groaned and I heard couple of curse words.
"Fine. Tell me the address."
I told him and I head couple of more curses. "I'll be there in 30 minutes."
"That's too lon..." Before I could finish my sentence, he hung up. Wow, rude.
I threw the phone on the passenger seat and opened the door. I got out and the chill weather made my shudder. It was summer but the nights were still little cold.
The black dress I had on clung to my body and reached down to my mid thighs. It had long sleeves but they did nothing to protect me from the cold. My short hair that hung above my shoulders was down and straightened.
I slid my palm into my hand bag and pulled out a small pocket with cigarettes. I took one out and placed it between my lips.
I lit the cigarette and took a look drag of the slim white stick.
Bad habit that I couldn't get rid of. I started smoking when I started high school and I'll have to look over Gigi so she wouldn't do the same.
I tightened my hands around me after I finished with the cigarette.
I looked left and right and there was nothing. The only light was from my car. Thankfully that worked.
Gigi must be worried but I couldn't risk telling her because she was going to tell my parents immediately. In this type of situations, she never knew how to shut her mouth.
Tilting my head back, I closed my eyes and tapped my foot on the ground.
A car sound started to roar from my far left and I pushed myself from the car. Small light was nearing and I impatiently waited.
Oh thankfully the mechanic was here.
The single light made me squeeze my eyes. Wait it was one light.
Did he just got here on a bike?
The black motorcycle parked next to me and the guy who was driving was dressed in jeans and a black tight t-shirt. Tattoos covered his arms and a helmet was covering his head.
His hands reached for the helmet and he slowly took it off.
Oh my...
What a man.
The mechanic was apparently model looking. His dark hair was cut short, longer on top. He had a light stubble covering his jaw. As soon as he got off the bike, I realised how tall he was.
Broad shoulders and muscular hands.
"Hello, sir." I said and smiled.
He just looked at me and then to the vehicle behind me. Without saying a word, he marched towards my car, bumping my shoulder in the process. What was his deal?
He opened the hood and took a small flash light out of his pocket and placed it between his teeth after he turned it on.
Leaning his hands on the car, his eyes focused on the machines. I got closer and peeked over his shoulder.
"What's wrong with it?"
"The car's overheated." I had no idea what that meant. I had no clue of any car problems that existed. I just had a drivers license and that was it.
"Can you fix it?"
"Yes but not here. I don't have the proper equipment for this type of car."
"And what are you going to do?" He closed the hood and looked down at me. Damn, he was tall.
He stayed quiet as he took out his phone and dialled a number. I bit my lip and waited to see what he was going to say.
I wasn't so lucky because he started to speak in a foreign language.
"Îεια ÏÎ¿Ï , Kris. ÎÏοÏÎµÎ¯Ï Î½Î± Î¼Î¿Ï ÎºÎ¬Î½ÎµÎ¹Ï Î¼Î¹Î± ÏάÏη?" He started to speak and I was mesmerised by the words. What kind of language was that? (Hello, Kris. Can you do me a favour?)
I carefully watched the way his lips moved and then my gaze traveled to his beautiful dark eyes. They were zoned over my head and he was listening to the person on the other side.
He had stunning sharp futures that could land him a cover on Vogue.
Do all mechanics look like this? I always thought they were elderly men in greasy tank tops that had bald head and drank beer all day long.
He said the last word and hung up.
"My friend will pick up the car in an hour and I'll fix it in my garage. Here." He pulled out a small card from his pocket. It had an address and a phone number. The same one I called. "Take this."
"Oh, thank you. I'm Delia by the way. My friends call me Cherry. May I know your name?"
"Gabriel." Was all he said. Before I could think, I asked.
"Are you single by any chance?" He glared at me and he looked pissed at my question. "Just asking."
"Well are you?"
"Yes." He mumbled, his voice barely audible. He walked past me and grabbed his helmet.
"How am I supposed to go home?"
"That's not my problem. Call someone. They can pick you up."
"Are you kidding me? You're gonna leave me here? All alone." I crossed my hands in front of me.
"Look. I just got here to look at the car. What you do now is not my problem." He shrugged his shoulders and turned around.
"I'm literally going to cry. You are not a human." I began my acting again but I really needed him to get me home. "Someone's gonna murder me and bury me in the woods and you'll watch the news in couple of days when they find me."
I took a breath and began to speak again.
"My ghost is going to hunt you forever. You won't be able to sleep at night. I won't leave you alone..."
"Please stop talking. You have a really annoying voice. Get here and put this on." A smirk of satisfaction formed on my lips, I grabbed the phone and put it in my miniature bag.
I took a hold of the helmet and placed it over my head. Now I looked like I was in some movie. My Lana Del Rey dreams were coming true.
He got on the motorcycle and I climbed on the back. I glued my body to his and tightened my hands over his waist. And he had six packs. I mean what did I expect?
"Where to?"
"Do you know where the Carolingian estate is?" My family was well know so I assume he might know.
"I do."
"Well, I live there."
"Of course you do." He huffed and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Excuse me? What does that mean?"
"By the way you talk and act I should have known you are from some rich ass family. Oh and the car of course."
"I didn't expect to get roasted today but okay. Have it your way, sir." I turned my head to the side and he turned on the engine. Asshole.
I yelped when he started to drive. Was this man crazy?
He drove fast. Like really, really fast. I could make out the roads from the speed and after a while I shut my eyes close.
I didn't want to get nauseous.
Driving fast always triggered painful memories for me. My older brother William died in a car accident when he was only seventeen. His death caused my family to fall apart snd we were never the same after that day.
I still remember when the police arrived in front of our doors. I was only ten when that happened but I still remember it very vividly. Gigi doesn't remember him and sometimes I envy her. She doesn't have to bear the same pain that I do.
William was the most amazing person I know. He was kind and loved me and Gigi more than anything. My friends always said that siblings are the worst but Will was the best brother ever.
He was the one to take care of us when our parents were not around. Which was most of the time.
When I opened my eyes, I noticed the tall gates.
Gabriel drove inside and rounded the luxurious fountain.
To my surprise, my parents and Antonio's parents were all out. Literally everyone. I guess they were just leaving.
The motorcycle stopped directly in front of the entrance and all of their eyes pointed at us.
Amazing.
I slowly took off the helmet and hopped off the bike. Mom's lips were parted as she watched the scene unfold. Gigi was behind them and she was covering her mouth, while trying not to laugh.
Dad was evidently angry and the guests were shocked.
"Delia who is this?" Mom asked.
"This..." I turned to Gabriel. He didn't seem fazed with anything. He casually rested his elbows on the bike.
I cleared my throat and thought of an idea. "This is my boyfriend Gabriel." I smiled and circled my hands around his bicep. "Right, baby?"
Not a single word left his mouth but his eyes told everything. He wanted to murder me.
Malinda gasped and her husband tsked in disappointment. Antonio on the other hand, fixed his eyes on Gabriel.
He looked like a scared little boy. Which he was. Coward.
"I'll call you tomorrow, baby. Okay?" I closed the distance and pressed my lips on his cheek. I thanked him for not ruining my plan quietly and wiped the red lipstick of his skin.
His hands flexed and I'm sure he was about to snap any moment so I ushered him to leave.
He drove off in a speed of light and I waved after him with a smile.
Antonio walked past him to reach his car and whispered. "You disappointed me." Was he being for real? I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
They all left and mom quickly grabbed me by my forearm.
"You young lady have lost your mind. That man looks way older than you and don't get me started on his outfit and that... filthy bike." Her nose scrunched and she looked disgusted.
"Isn't dad like twenty years older than you? What's the problem with me and Gabriel being together?"
"Delia shut up. You should be grateful that I'm tired right now. We'll talk about this tomorrow." Dad joined the conversation and left not saying another word.
Mom tugged me inside and I walked up the stairs.
"Gigi. In your room now!" She yelled at my younger sister and I ran to my room as well.
When I reached the door, I opened it and got inside. I jumped on the bed and grabbed Berry. My fluffy frog. A toy that I have since I was baby.
"Well Berry. I got myself in another mess." I turned on my stomach while hugging him and closed my eyes.
