âEmmeline?â Alana was surprised, and her eyes widened in astonishment.
Does she know Emmeline?
âWho are you?â asked Alana cautiously.
âIâm Sophia, Sophia answered. âI recognize this car; it belongs to Emmeline.â
âHow do you know her?â Alana frowned.
âAnd whatâs your relationship with her?â Sophia countered.
âI am- Alana wondered about her relationship with Emmeline and then blurted, Tm Emmelineâs friend, Scarlett.â
âEmmelineâs friend, Scarlett?â Sophia looked at the Buick Regal. âNo wonder youâre in this car.
âEmmeline is getting engaged,â Sophia went on. âAs part of the bridal entourage, you should be helping with the preparations.â
âEngaged?â Alanaâs eyes widened. Emmeline is getting engaged? With Abel?
âI havenât heard her mention it,â Alana probed. I didnât even know she had a boyfriend.â
âIsnât it Albus Zeller from Altney Steel?â enquired Sophia. The Zeller family agreed to the engagement next month. Did I make a mistake?â
âYou mean Albus?â Alana quickly pretended to have a sudden realization. âI know about him. Iâve met Albus.
This sudden news made Alanaâs heart beat faster. Emmeline was getting engaged to someone else!
This warrants a huge celebration!
Alana was so excited that she couldnât think straight. Just then, she saw Abel and Dylan at the intersection, heading back toward her.
âDo you have a phone number?â Alana quickly asked Sophia. Let me save your number.â
Sophia gave her own number to Alana, and Alana dialed it and said urgently. âThis is my number. You can call me.
âThatâs great!â Sophia exclaimed excitedly. âI love getting to know people with high class like you!â
Seeing Abel about to approach, Alana told Sophia, âYou better leave quickly. I have something to do!â
Sophia tactfully turned around and left while Alana returned to the back seat of the car. After dropping off Dylan at the hotel, Abel went to escort Alana home.
At that moment, his phone rang. It was Emmeline calling.
Abelâs heart skipped a beat as he quickly answered, âEmma?â
âAbel, have you finished your dinner with Mr. Carson?â Emmeline asked softly.
âYeah!â he replied. âI just dropped him off at the hotel and am heading back to Altney Steel now,â
âWellâEmmeline sounded choked up for a moment. âMaybe you shouldnât come back tonight.â
Abelâs heart skipped a beat in the silence as he furrowed his brows. âEmma, what happened again?â
Emmeline sighed. âMom caught us again and scolded me. Iâm afraid that sheâll get angry at you come back!â
He felt a heavy weight in his heart. âWhy does this never end?â
âThatâs why Iâm so worried, she murmured. âDonât come back tonight. Come pick me up early tomorrow morning.
âBut Emma-â
âIâll be fine.â Emmeline knew Abel was worried about her. âDonât keep getting concerned about me, and take care of yourself!â
âAlright.â Abel hung up the phone, feeling heavy.
âAbel, whispered Alana from the backseat. âArenât you going back to your home at Altney Steel?â
âWhatâs it to you?â Abelâs mood was terrible, and his tone was cold.
âItâs still early.â she suggested tentatively. âWhy donât. Why donât I accompany you for a walk?â
âThereâs no need for it!â Abel said. âI have to go back to Altney Steel, even if I just remain downstairs tonight!â
âIs it necessary?â She frowned. âEven Emmeline doesnât want you to go back.â
âItâs none of your business!â Abel replied coldly. âGet out of the car and go back home yourself!â
Alana sneered but didnât say anything, and she obediently opened the car door and got off. She sneered in her heart.
So, the influence of that phone call is so farâreaching, huh? She met Sophia tonight, who can also be used too!
After watching the car disappear around the corner, she hailed a taxi. âRyker Group headquarters, Glazer Street.
A few minutes later, Alana arrived at Abelâs residence at the company. After pushing the aluminum alloy window open, she took off a silver lilyâshaped hairpin from her head and threw it into the bedroom. It was too light and didnât land on the bed but instead on the floor next to it.
âHmph! Thatâs already enough.â Alana laughed darkly.
