Suddenly, she caught a whiff of perfume on him.
Even though she rarely wore any, Alexis recognized the scent from a perfume counter.
She knew it was popular among young girls.
Leonel could tell from her expression what she was thinking.
He shrugged.
âI mustâve picked it up in the private room.
There were lots of people there, including Edwin and Laura.
Ask James if you donât believe me.
â
Alexis didnât push it.
âNo need.
I trust you,â she said lightly.
Seeing her indifferent face, Leonel chuckled to himself.
âCanât tell if you actually believe me or just donât care,â he mumbled.
Alexis didnât want to argue, especially not in the middle of the night.
Softly, she suggested, âSince we both have work tomorrow, why not hit the hay after a shower?â
Hearing this, Leonel felt a twinge of irritation and started unbuttoning his shirt in front of her.
But then, he froze.
The TV was playing an old episode featuring Calvin, looking young and lively on the screen.
Leonel tensed up.
After a long pause, he glanced at Alexis, who sat quietly on the couch.
She seemed composed but her eyes glistened with tearsâ¦
It was clear she was mourning Calvin.
As her husband, Leonel couldnât bear it.
He abandoned what he was doing, walked behind the sofa, and whispered in her ear, âDonât forget that you are my wife, Alexis!â
Gazing at the screen, Alexis replied softly, âI could never forget, even for a moment.
â
She knew Leonelâs ways of dealing with things.
Since she found out about Calvinâs death, she never brought up divorce, leaving the decision to Leonel.
If he grew tired of the marriage and wished to be free, he would eventually seek a divorce.
But three years had passed and nothing changed.
Instead, Leonelâs jealousy flared up.
After speaking, Alexis turned away.
Leonel watched her for a moment before heading to the bathroom.
Soon, he emerged from the bathroom in pajamas.
Late into the night, Alexis shut off the TV, ready to hit the hay.
Suddenly, Leonelâs phone chimed⦠For no reason, his heart skipped a beat.
He feared it might be the woman from the club.
To his relief though, it was a call from the Fowler Mansion.
