When he picked up, Evelynâs sweet voice greeted him.
âDaddy, I canât sleep.
Can you tell me a story?â
Upon hearing his little girlâs voice, Leonelâs tension eased, and his heart melted.
He settled onto the bed with a fairy tale book and asked gently, âWhyâre you still up, sweetheart? Itâs late.
â
Evelyn persisted, saying she couldnât sleep without a bedtime story.
While Leonel read, his voice was soothing and deep.
Occasionally, he stole glances at Alexis, almost flirting.
Ignoring him, Alexis headed to the bathroom.
Since the servants were off duty, she took care of chores.
Leonelâs clothes were strewn on the floor.
She gathered them for laundry, spotting a lipstick stain on his shirt collar.

It wasnât hers.
It was as if another woman had left her markâ¦
Gripping the clothes, Alexis pondered what was going on.
She no longer felt love for Leonel but she didnât expect him to be with someone else right after their intimacy.
With a heavy heart, Alexis glanced at the bedroom.
Perhaps Leonel had finally reached his limit⦠and wanted to end thingsâ¦
Putting away the dirty laundry, Alexis rinsed her hands.
When she returned to the bedroom, Leonel had put Evelyn to sleep.
Turning to her, he murmured, âI promised Evelyn Iâd drop her off at school in the morning.
Then, Iâll drive you to work.
â
Alexis simply nodded.
She climbed into bed, lying beside Leonel.
He was about to make a move, enticed by her scentâ¦
Glancing at him, Alexis asked softly, âDid James arrange some company for you tonight?â
Her words caught Leonel off guard.
Alexis wasnât one to beat around the bush.
âI found Lipstick mark on your shirt when I put it into the washing machine.
It doesnât seem accidental or a prank,â she said plainly.
After all, no one could approach Leonel without his consent.
In essence, heâd been with another woman.
Leonel knew Alexis too well.
If she discovered Anika and what happened at the apartment, sheâd ask for a divorce without hesitation.
So, he chose to lie.
Facing Alexisâ inquiry, he switched off the light, lay down, and replied casually, âNah, James didnât set anything up.
Probably just a prank.
You know those guys.
Iâll deal with it next time.
