Slap.

"Ow, what the hell was that for?" Julian exclaims as he grabs his cheek, and I clap my hands as if I'm trying to get rid of imaginary dust.

"I've been wanting to do that since, well you know." I answer him, smiling in triumph.

He scoffs, rubbing his reddened cheek. "I thought you were over it already."

"I am," I say, "Now, at least."

He gives me a blank stare, dropping his hand by his side. I hold back the urge to laugh at my hand printed on his cheek.

"It's been a little over a month, why are you getting revenge now?"

"Well," I start, ruffling his hair. "I've been keeping my anger bottled up, but the incident between my mom and her soon to be ex husband made me snap, and well I figured why not let it all out on you?"

"I don't find that fair, at all."

I ruffle his hair a little more, and he grabs my wrist as he pushes my hand away.

I laugh, "Life's not fair, sweetheart."

He shakes his head at me, before he walks out of the house and closes the door behind him.

However, a few seconds later, he opens it again and pokes his head back into the house to look at me.

"Prince Eric is waiting for his Ariel right outside." He tells me with a straight face, and I blush.

"Coming," I say.

"I'll be sure to let him know." He nods, closing the door behind him once again.

I hear Emily rushing down the stairs and I turn around to look up at her, my eyes instantly widening.

"Timber!" She screams, and I open my arms just in time for her to crash into me, and I grunt in pain as I fall back flat on my back, with her falling right on top of me.

"Em...what the...hell..." I grumble, having a difficult time to catch back my breath as the wind was knocked out of me.

She mumbles something under her breath, before she lifts herself off of me and rolls onto her back beside me.

"Don't try to hurry down the stairs with your shoes untied..."

I instantly lift my hand off the ground and slap it right on my face. "Em, I swear..."

Silence surrounds us, before she suddenly begins to chuckle softly, but soon enough it turns into straight up laughter.

"Your face!" She chokes out, and I join in shortly.

"You should've seen your face." I laugh, remembering her face expression as she tried to catch back her balance while tumbling down the stairs. "Priceless!"

"You looked like a deer caught in headlights!" She wheezes.

"And you looked like a dog who was running and tripped on their front paws!"

We both burst out laughing all over again, and I clutch my stomach as it begins ache.

Suddenly, there's a knock on the door and we both instantly stop our laughter as we turn to look at the closed door.

"Who is it?!" Emily asks loud enough for everyone in the house to hear.

There's a pause, before the person on the other side knocks to a random rhythm. I scrunch up my eyebrows in confusion, but Emily instantly beams at the door.

"Damian!" She cheers, getting up from the ground before she runs towards the door and opens it.

She crashes into his arms, and I gasp as I also get up from the ground.

"Alex!" I suddenly call out, rushing towards the door and pushing past them. "Bye, Em, see you in school! Bye Damian, take care of her!"

"Bye!" They both say simultaneously.

I jog towards Alex's truck, before I suddenly freeze and curse under my breath. He looks at me in confusion, before I spin around and run back into the house.

"My backpack!" I say, freezing once again and cursing loudly this time. "Is not here."

I run back out of the house and he chuckles as I climb into the passenger's seat.

"Looking for this?" He asks, reaching back to the backseat as he picks up my backpack and hands it over to me.

I sigh in relief as I put it on my lap. "Thank you."

"No problem."

I reach for the seatbelt, pulling it around my body before I click it into place.

"Ready?" He questions.

"Ready."

"Alex, stop it." I scold, pushing his face away from me as I continue to connect the wires together.

"Just because we have physics, doesn't mean we can't have any chemistry." He whispers into my ear, and I close my eyes as I try to focus on our project.

"Alex, I swear..."

"You swear what, hmm?" He questions, his breath fanning the skin of my neck.

I suck my lip between my teeth as I shudder. "Alex, please, stop..."

"Why should I?" He muses.

"Salazar, Mendoza, you're falling behind on the project." The teacher informs us, and I snap my eyes open at her voice.

I turn to look at Alex with an accusing glare, "That's why."

This causes him to grin at me, and I poke one of his dimples.

"Be a good boy and help me out with this project, will you?"

"It would be my honor, madam." He bows for effect.

"Okay, great." I say, shoving the batteries and wires into his hands. "Connect these, and I'll connect them to the light bulb once you're done."

He does as told, before he asks, "Why do we even need to do this?"

I shrug, picking up the cut up rubber and throwing it into the trash can.

"Emergencies, but mainly just for instructional purposes on how the circuit works."

"Aw, we have to explain how we think this works, don't we?" He whines, and I laugh softly as I nod my head. "Aw, come on."

"Aw, is it too much work for little Alex?" I mock him, causing him to narrow his eyes at me. "It's just a short explanation, you swear."

"Watch us get homework too, as if this–" he motions to the mess consisting of wires, batteries, and lightbulbs resting on the table. "–isn't enough work."

"It really isn't," I point out, "Because there's two types of students in this class; the ones who do all the work, and the ones who do none. So, the homework assures that we all do at least some type of work."

"You're actually agreeing with the teachers?" He gapes at me, and I laugh.

"No, I'm just saying that homework makes sure the entire class does work, excluding the students who don't do anything and are failing the class."

He nods, "Fair point."

"Yeah."

"Why aren't you with your boyfriend again?" I ask Emily a second time, leaning against the pole behind me as I cross my arms across my chest.

"I'm not going to ditch my best friend for my boyfriend." She shrugs.

I instantly get flashbacks from when she used to leave me alone, to hang out with Ricky.

"Actually, you used to–" I quickly close my mouth as she raises an intimidating eyebrow at me. "Ha ha, I mean aww, you're the sweetest best friend ever."

She beams at me, "I know."

"Ready!" We suddenly hear a male voice shout and we turn to look in the direction of the voice, confused.

"Set!" Another voice says and my eyes connect with Alex's as he bends down beside Damian, looking as if they're both ready to race each other.

"Go!" The first voice finishes and they both instantly kick off dirt as they run.

"Why are they– Em, I think they're coming straight at us..." I trail off, watching their figures getting closer and closer with each passing second.

She unexpectedly grips my arm and tugs me in the opposite direction. "Run!"

"What, why–"

"I said, run!"

"Okay, geez."

I spin around and run alongside Emily, swerving around confused students who are walking towards the cafeteria.

They quickly notice the guys running after us and they all begin to chant for us to run faster. Some of them are encouraging us, while others encourage the guys.

"Why are we running?" I question, and she grabs my hand as she makes an abrupt turn to the right.

"I have no idea, but I'm getting tired."

We hear the guys' stomps catching up to us and Emily's breath hitches as arms wrap around her waist, stopping her from running.

In panic, I push my legs to go faster and I take more sharp turns, cursing when the steps continue to sound behind me.

"Courtney," Alexander calls out, "Just give up."

"Never!" I holler.

Trying to be cool, I turn a full one-eighty degrees and try to run past him, but he's quick to react and sticks out his arm. He easily catches me and pulls me in towards his chest, holding me in place.

"You run faster than I expected you to." He says, catching back his breath.

"Hey, I run!" I argue, fanning myself.

"Really?" He chuckles, "How often?"

"When I'm hungry, I time myself on how fast I can get from my room to the kitchen." I explain, taking in a deep breath. "And let me tell you, I get there pretty quickly."

He pauses, staring at me as if he's remembering something. "Is that what you were doing the other day?"

I tilt my head sideways as I look at him, "When?"

"When I walked out of my room and saw you running like someone was chasing you?"

I pause to think, "So, like now?"

"Yeah, like now."

"Yup," I say, smiling.

He makes a face as he nods his head, "I'm impressed."

"Thank you."

"I won, papi." Damian suddenly pops up from behind Alex and I snicker, seeing Emily dangling over his shoulder.

"Can you, like, put me down now?" She asks, sounding bored.

"Not yet, beautiful."

She huffs, then I hear a smack.

"Spank me one more time, I dare you." Damian warns, and she does as told, earning herself what she wanted; he puts her down and she immediately runs off again.

He stares at the empty space she was standing just a second ago, completely and utterly confused on what just happened.

"Guess you won one part of the bet, but I won the other." Alex winks at him, and I look up at them in confusion when he tightens his hold on me.

"What bet?"

They both look down at me.

"We bet five dollars each–"

"So, ten bucks?" I ask, cutting him off.

Alex shakes his head at me, "No, twenty, because Steven and Lucas joined the bet." He corrects.

"Oh."

"Yeah," he says, "Anyway, we bet twenty bucks to see who can capture one of you two the fastest, and who could keep holding on to you the longest. We thought it would be easier than this, but you two ran and we had to work harder to win."

I shake my head at them as I laugh, "You guys are ridiculous."

"Ridiculously sexy?" Alex offers.

I decide to tease him, "Hmm, more like ridiculously hideous."

Damian continues to frown at the area where Emily was standing. Then he turns around, "I'm gonna go look for her...again."

"See you later, daddy." Alex winks at him, and I slump down in his arms.

"I'm third-wheeling...I don't want to third-wheel!" I complain, trying to get out of his arms.

They both laugh at my frantic reaction, before Damian kisses his hand and blows it towards Alex.

I immediately move away as if it could land on me.

"Adios, papi." Damian grins, going as far as to sway his hips from left to right when he walks away to look for his girl.

I look up at Alex, my forehead touching his chin.

"Are you sure you don't bat for the same team?"

He only smirks at me in response.

* * *

"One hotdog, please." I order, and the man nods his head at me before he sticks his head back into the food truck.

We (Emily, Damian, Alex, and I) are currently taking a break from walking to eat.

After school, Emily and Damian convinced Alex and I to go on a double date—although Alex and I aren't dating—and we all decided to just walk around the city to talk. We eventually got tired and hungry, so we decided to stop and eat when we saw a food truck parked nearby us.

Which brings us to my current position of waiting for my hotdog to be ready for me to munch on.

Soon enough, the man sticks his head back out and hands me my hotdog.

I instantly smile up at him, "Thank you so much, have a nice day."

He nods at me, "You too, ma'am."

I turn back towards my friends and frown when the guys are both already halfway done with their burger. I then focus my attention on Emily and smile as her hotdog is still complete.

"I told you I would wait for you." She smiles.

I smile back at her, before I look down at my hotdog and she does the same to her own.

"The sausage always has to be bigger than the bun, or else it isn't a proper hotdog." We both say in unison, the words memorized in our minds by now.

We both look up at each other, before we burst into laughter.

"It's been a while since we were able to say that again." I say, between laughs.

"I missed saying it."

"Me too."

"I don't think me and Emily can make a proper hotdog..." We hear Damian say, and Emily's eyes widen while I choke on my saliva.

Alex bursts out into laughter, slapping his knee as he sets down his burger on a nearby table.

I watch as Damian's ears redden in embarrassment, taking a big bite out of his burger to distract himself.

"Damian," Alex chokes out, "You're killing me!"

I look down at my hotdog and scrunch up my face in disgust, imagining what Damian was implying.

"Who wants my hotdog?" I ask, and both guys shake their heads without a second of hesitation.

I turn to look at Emily and my eyes widen when I see that she's taking bite after bite of her own hotdog.

"Gorgeous, I wouldn't do that if I were you..."

She looks up from her hotdog to stare at all of us, her cheeks stuffed with food as she chews.

It takes a while until she finally swallows her food and wipes her mouth. "It's food, of course I'm going to stuff my mouth with it. Food over you, dude. No offense."

Damian gives her a blank stare, "Did you just call me dude?"

"I did."

I take a small bite from my hotdog as I look at them talking back and forth to one another.

"You seem to love hotdogs a lot," Alex suddenly whispers into my ear and I jump up in fear as I let out a small yelp.

I quickly spin around, to watch him smirking at me.

"Don't do that, I–" he cuts me off, and I choke on my food as he asks the following question.

"Wanna make a proper hotdog?"

I didn't go to school today, yay! Actually, no yay because now I'm sure I have work to catch up on. Ugh!

Anyways, I think I fell in love with this chapter. I love how it came out, and I hope you all like it as much as I do.

My favorite line from this chapter: Just because we have physics, doesn't mean we can't have any chemistry. –Alex
