Marrying the Man in the Dark
Chapter 711 Sheâs Almost Like Family
Why did Rowena suddenly say her clothes were dirty? She most likely retreated to the bathroom downstairs⦠and
didnât have the time.
âMr. Lensir?â Frances spoke tentatively when she heard silence on the other end.
Damien coughed lightly and instinctively understood the situation. Just provide them with a clean set of servantâs
attire.â
âButâ¦.
âIf they continue causing a scene, inform them youâve consulted Cherise. Tell them Cherise wanted to personally
bring them a new outfit, but you declined because you didnât want them to be embarrassed. If they insist on
Cheriseâs help, you can tell Cherise to go down.â
On the other end, Frances was perplexed but nodded earnestly. âAlright, Mr. Lenoir. Iâll do as you say.â
When the call ended, Cherise and Damien looked at each other. After a moment, they both abruptly burst into
laughter simultaneously.
âAre you happy now?â The man reached out and pulled Cherise into his embrace. âYouâre a scoundrel.â
âAm I?â Cherise pouted. She lay in his arms and said coyly. âIâm much better compared to your savior, who
pretended to be unconscious after consuming a laxative.â
Damien nodded, gently kissing her cheek. âIndeed.â The man couldnât help but sigh. âRowena wasnât always. like
this. She used to reprimand Ursula sternly whenever her sister caused trouble. I had complete faith in
her.â
âI must bear responsibility for her sudden transformation. I treated her too nicely, and sheâs forgotten her place.â
Cheriseâs interest was piqued. She looked up, her clear eyes observing Damien quietly. âSo tell me, who is
she?â
âA friend.â Damien didnât hesitate. âPerhaps even closer than a friend. Sheâs almost like family.â
The man looked at Cherise earnestly. âIf Rowena hadnât intervened three years ago⦠I might have long vanished
from this world.â As he spoke, he reached out to caress Cheriseâs face. âWithout her, you might not have me in
your life now.â
Cheriseâs expression changed slightly when he mentioned the fire three years ago. She could still vividly remember
the massive fire three years ago.
She could still recall the sweltering heat in the room, the pungent smell permeating the air, and⦠his unconscious
face from that day. But even in his unconscious state, he still clung tightly to the small box containing their
engagement rings.
The scene that day had shocked Cherise. Unfortunately, she had sustained burns to her hand and had to be
evacuated immediately.
However, she hadnât anticipated that Rowena would take all her credit. When she thought about it

Rowena was a waitress back then, and she wasnât disabled. During the fire, Cherise had called for Rowenaâs help,
but Rowena fled hastily.
Cherise was amused as she revisited the circumstances of that day. How did Rowena have the audacity to later
assert that she had saved Damien?
But Cherise didnât want to expose Rowena yet. Now that Cherise had returned, she was curious to see what
schemes this deceitful savior would concoct to get rid of her.
âI have a question. With that in mind, she looked up at Damien sincerely. âIf you were forced to choose between
Rowena and me, who would you pick?â
