Chapter 122
With Andre with her, Janet couldnât march right into the palace. It caused too much attention. And she didnât want that.
She circled to the back of the building and found the window to their suite. She waited there for about ten to fifteen minutes and the window cracked open. Daran stuck his head out. When he saw Janet, he let out a slight sigh of relief.
âHold on a second,â he said.
He carried a coil of rope and climbed out of the window, jumping onto the ground lightly. He moved Andre to his back. Janet helped to tie Andreâs body firmly to his back.
âYou go ahead,â she said in a whisper. âI will watch out for you.â
Daran nodded.
Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and jumped, stepping onto the wall for support and grabbing the windowsill.
He moved so effortlessly and didnât make a single sound during the whole process. It seemed as though he was carrying a feather on his back and not a human being.
Janet looked around and made sure that nobody was around. Then she followed Daranâs steps and got into the suite herself.
Andreâs breathing was still light and shallow. There was a deep furrow between his brows even when he was asleep, as though he was having a nightmare.
âIs he going to be alright?â Janet asked worriedly.
âYeah. He was just having a light fever. Just move him into the room and give him a wipe down and he will be alright.â
Janet nodded.
They carried Andre into the bedroom and set him down on the bed.
Janet took a hand to unbutton Andreâs shirt.
Yet Daran grabbed her wrist forcefully.
âWhat do you think you are doing?â he asked with a raised eyebrow.
âGiving the boy a wipe downâ¦like you said.â
âYou seriously think that I will allow you to see and touch another manâs body?â he said coldly.
Janet withdrew her hands. She was slightly embarrassed.
âCome on, Daran, donât be ridiculous. He is just a kid,â she muttered.
âAnd I am an envious man.â
He grabbed her chin, his thumb caressing her soft skin, âDonât give me a chance to be jealous.â
Janet held her breath.
They hadnât been together for so long that sometimes she forgot how possessive i and bossy he was
âFine. I will leave this to youâ¦as long as you donât mind the work,â she pouted.
Daran gave a gentle nudge on her shoulder, âGo wait in the living room.â
Janet walked out of the room and slumped down on the couch.
She was exhausted. Yet her mind was still sharp as ever, thinking about everything that happened tonight.
They brought Andre back, which was not part of their original plan, but it worked out just fine. Now they had more time to persuade Andre into working with them.
The only loose end was those guards.
When they came back and found that Andre was missing, they would definitely tell
Danton.
Luckily, none of the guards saw their faces and nobody knew that they were at the masquerade ball tonight.
So Danton wouldnât suspect them.
About an hour later, Janet heard some noises coming from the bedroom.
She jumped up from the couch and dashed inside.
Andre was awake.
He sat on the bed with a haggard and distraught face. Some angry tears were circling in his eyes.
âWhy did you fucking take me back!â he cried in despair, clenching the bedsheet. âI told you to leave me alone! Why canât you just mind your own fucking business!â
âKeep your voice down,â Daran threatened dangerously.
Andre quivered under his sharp gaze.
He bit his bottom lip and glared at Daran indignantly, âI know what you are up to⦠You just want to be friends because there is something you want from me.â
âYou are not too stupid after all.â
Daran crossed his arms and said in a cold voice, âLook. My patience is limited. So I will just cut right into the chase. I know that you hate Danton, and you want to be free of him.â
Andre parted lips as though he was going to say something to refute.
Yet Daran raised a hand and stopped him before he could say anything.
âDonât give me that loving-father, loving-son bullshit. You can fool the others, but
not me.â
Daran said impatiently,
âYou know perfectly well that the two of us are the only people in this city who can challenge Danton and Lance. If you want freedom, we are your only chance. So the wise thing for you to do now is to make a deal with us, let us help you and we will give you what you want.â
Andre lapsed into silence, his body slightly shaking.
For the first time ever, he didnât reject the offer immediately.
He was hesitating.
Janet noticed his subtle change of attitude and added, âAnd nobody is trying to be your friend. We can go our separate ways after this one time. We donât need to see eye to eye on everything.â
Andre held his head down, pondering.
After a long pause, he breathed out a small sigh, âYou didnât leave me with much choice by bringing me back here⦠Fine. Tell me what you want first.â
âYou are the former Rogue Kingâs son. We want to know how your father died.â
Andre snorted, âSo that you can use the same method to kill Lance?â
Janet didnât answer his question directly, âAs I said, we will go separate ways after this one-time deal. You donât need to know what we are going to do. Now, your turn.â
Andre shrugged.
âIt is pretty obvious, isnât it? I am done with being Dantonâs lapdog. How can you help me?â
âWe can help you escape the city,â Janet said. âAnd we will assist you to settle down at a place of your choice. As long as it is out of the rogueâs territory, we have that kind of power.â
âNo way. This city is my fatherâs legacy. I am not leaving home.â
Janet frowned.
The trickiest part was that they didnât want Lance to notice that they were approaching Andre right now.
They wanted to go around Lanceâs back and give him a fatal strike when the time came, which wouldnât work if Lance was alerted ahead of that time.
So how to help Andre without causing Lanceâs attention?
That was an issue.
âSee?â Andre shrugged. âI told you already. Lance and his minions controlled this city. You canât help me.â
Right at this moment, Daran spoke up in a calm voice, âThere is a simple solution to this.â
âWhich is?â Andre challenged.
âWe kill Danton,â Daran said.
