Lainey

"That is so not fair," Maize whines as Trey's bowling ball slams through the pins causing them all to fall.

Trey shrugs as he walks over to my seat. "Can't help I'm good at bowling."

Maize rolls her eyes and reluctantly stands up as Trey takes her seat beside me. "Jeremiah still has a crush on her," Trey whispers to me as Maize attempts to not throw a gutter ball.

I laugh as I watch Jeremiah stare at her intensely as her ball rolls into the gutter at the last second.

When Jeremiah turned about 14 he developed a bit of a crush on her. I told Maize and she laughed.

So yeah, he claims he's over it but Trey and I still joke about it.

"It has to be rigged," Maize exclaims with a stomp of her foot.

Jeremy shakes his head with a laugh and Jeremiah gives her a reassuring smile.

After school, they took me bowling for my birthday. My parents wanted to come but we (as in Jeremy, Jeremiah, and myself) respectfully declined.

I love my parents, but I wanted to enjoy it with my three friends and Jeremy.

Maize shockingly knocks three pins down on her second try and then it's Jeremy's turn to bowl.

Right now Trey is in the lead with Jeremy not too far behind. Then it's Jeremiah, Maize, and lastly me.

Yeah, I suck at bowling.

As everyone is watching Jeremy roll most likely another strike my eyes drift away to the lane beside us.

A group of guys are setting it up. I notice one of the guys and my stomach sinks.

It's Waylon.

Waylon is the running back on the football team. He has shoulder length black hair and stands to a whopping height of 5/7.

Waylon isn't necessarily a problem. It's the people he hangs with. Or to be more specific the one person he hangs out with.

Yes, Owen Huntley.

Just thinking the name makes me want to gag.

As he sets up the leader board Caleb and Owen join.

I forgot to mention earlier that Caleb also happens to be Owen's best friend and number one pal.

Jermey's ball hit all the pins with a loud bang.

"Take that Trey!" Jeremy yells as his score passes Trey by five points.

Trey simply rolls his eyes. Caleb on the other hand catches me watching and grins.

Great, now we've been noticed.

Jeremy sees Caleb walking over and smiles, "What are you doing here, Caleb?"

"Coming to beat your ass," Caleb yells as they do a bro-hug.

I roll my eyes and Maize pokes my side in response. "Have fun, and Lainey maybe try and score some more points," Caleb says.

I give him an innocent smile and not a so innocent gesture.

We continue bowing and every so often my eyes wander to the left where Owen is.

His presence has made me paranoid, I keep a close eye on my drinks and food and I'm constantly checking the scoreboard. I wouldn't put it past him to clear out the entire thing.

We're almost done with our second game when Owen and his group finish their first.

After I bowl another gutter ball I realize all the guys left but Waylon.

Their stuff is still there, but Waylon is the only one left. Curiosity gets the best of me and as the rest of my group argues over who should buy dinner I sneak over.

"Hey Lainey," Waylon says with a smile.

I smile in return, "Hey Waylon, where is everyone?"

"Oh, they're getting food."

My smile spreads further as an idea forms in my mind.

"As you know I love pranking Owen, so I was wondering if I could maybe change his bowling name?" I say with my best puppy dog eyes.

Waylon sighs as he runs his fingers through his black hair. "I guess, but only because it's your birthday."

I let out a somewhat quiet squeal and began retyping Owen's name.

Lil Bitch is at the top of their board with Waylon's and Caleb's names under it.

"Promise you won't say it was me," I plead after I finish.

Waylon rolls his eyes. "Find, but he'll know it was you."

I grin. "Yeah, but it will kill him that you won't tell him."

Waylon laughs. "You two are the weirdest people I have ever met."

I rejoin my group and wait for Owen's reaction.

~~~~
Owen's reaction was priceless and Waylon stuck to his promise and never told him who did it.
Owen knew it was me by the glares he sent my way. The best part was all the girl's reactions to it.
Luckily he is playing right by the bathroom so every girl that went to the bathroom got to see his name.
I also paid Jeremy $10 to have the receptionist upfront call out his win on their last game.
If I could I would have framed his expression.
After our third game, I went to the bathroom. When I came out a laddie's voice came over the speaker.
"I have been told by an anonymous source that we have a birthday girl here today. Everyone give a big round of applause to Lainey Smitt!"
Everyone clamps and the lady continues. "Accidents happened, and it's okay you can't control when your irritable bowel may decide to act up."
My face flames red as laughter floats around the bowling alley. Owen turns towards me wearing a wicked grin and I send him a glare.
Well played, well freaking played, I practically growl to myself.
Maize notices my attitude change as I storm outside where they are waiting by the car. "Lainey, what happened?"
"Nothing, just now everyone thinks I have irritable bowel syndrome," I snap as I plop down in the back seat of Trey's truck.
Jeremy snickers from the other side, "Huntley, has a way with pranks."
I lean forward to see over Jeremiah who's in the middle seat. "You better keep your mouth shut, chapstick."
Jeremiah touches his lips. "Hey, guys can wear chapstick."
