Lainey
Okay, so I'm dreaming, and I'm in a warm bed.
A warm bed with a pleasant smell.
No, a delightful smell.
It smells... dark, and musky, it's hard to explain.
I roll over and I notice my bed is softer, like it's been well used (or well rested on.)
I crack open my eyes and all I see is darkness. That's weird I like to sleep with more light.
I pull the blanket away from my face and my room looks different. I slowly sit up and see a navy blue blanket in my clutched hand instead of my light yellow one.
Since when was my blanket navy blue?
That thought leaves my head the second I hear a soft snore.
Honestly, it sounds a lot like my cat but louder.
II slowly look to my left and see a full-ass body lying next to me.
Only when it rolls over do I realize who it is.
The scream leaves my mouth before my brain can tell my lips to remain shut.
Owens's eyes fly open, and he catapults forward. In response to my scream, he yells, "Shit!"
"What the hell are you doing here?" I yell.
"What the actual hell are you doing here?" Owen yells in response.
"I don't know?" I exclaim.
"Well, you're in my freaking bed," Owen says dryly.
"No shit," I snap
Then the realization hits me.
Oh my gosh, I'm in Owens's bed!
I AM IN OWEN FUCKING HUNTLEYS BED.
How did I get in his bed? I pinch my arm just to make sure I'm not having some messed-up dream.
Nope, not dreaming, I say to myself as I watch the nail marks on my arm fade.
The blanket moves and I look up to find him folding his arms across his chest. "Are you so obsessed with me that you snuck into my bed in the middle of the night?"
"No, I don't know how I got here," I mumble.
Owen rolls his eyes. "That's the only lie you can come up with?"
A warm, hot lightning bolt shoots through me as anger bubbles up. "It's not a lie, I went to bed in my room and woke up in yours!" I whisper yell.
Owens sighs and I remember something. "I could have sleepwalked here."
He gives me a dead look, "So you walked all the way across town to my house in your sleep?"
I nod, "It's possible I used to sleepwalk a lot when I was younger."
I don't know how many times my parents caught me walking around at midnight dead asleep. I haven't done it recently, but it's not impossible.
Last night I was planning a way to prank Owen after the stunt he pulled at the bowling alley.
So, maybe I went to sleep angry and decided to walk over to his house.
"Lainey, just drop the act, this attempt at getting me back for what I did at the bowling alley is pathetic."
I scoff, "Oh trust me I would never voluntarily climb into your nasty ass bed."
Owen simply stares at me with a stupid sly smile, "The same nasty ass bed that you are still currently sitting in?"
I quickly slide off his bed and brush off my sleep shorts. When I look up I notice his window is open. "See, that must have been how I got in. You left your window open."
Owens's eyes follow my finger that is pointing at his open window, as a warm breeze blows in.
"Or that's where you climbed in to prank me," Owen says with a humorless smile.
I put my hands on my hips. "If I wanted to prank you in your sleep I would have poured ice water on you or drawn on your face with a permanent marker."
Owens nods, "Exactly what someone in your place would say if they were lying."
My hands scrunch at my sides as I contemplate putting my hands around the source of air he is currently breathing.
The fact that he thinks I would ever set foot in his room let alone climb into his bed makes my stomach flip. I would rather get hit by a dump truck than voluntarily enter his house.
I run my hands down my face, "Look Huntley, believe whatever shit you want but I didn't purposely come into your room."
I move towards his window. "I'm going to leave and we can pretend this never happened."
A sign escapes his lips. "Lainey, I'm not going to let you walk home."
That one sentence has my feet stopping and me turning around to make sure I heard him correctly.

Owen
I would rather drink acid than drive Lainey Smit home, but if my mom ever found out she walked home she would skin me alive. No matter how Lainey got into my room.
"Did you just say that or did imagine that?" Lainey asks with her arms crossed over an enormous shirt that almost covers her shorts.
Ever since high school, there has been some type of rivalry or hatred between Lainey and I. My friends have always teased me about it but there is something about Lainey and that God-foresaking freaking grin that sets my blood boiling.
"Look Lainey, I would much rather be sleeping, trust me. But if you were to get kidnapped or murdered who knows what people would think about me."
Laineys lips twitch, "I mean it probably wouldn't change people's opinion much because they already think you're a pig."
I pull a hoodie over my head and give her a smirk, "Oh no darling, people love me. Most of the female population at school would give anything to be in your place."
Lainey rolls her eyes and pushes my window open farther. She crawls out and I grab my keys and follow behind her.
We both get in my car, I turn the key and it roars to life. Lainey winces, "Isn't your mom going to hear you and think you're sneaking out?"
I laugh, "My mom doesn't care."
Lainey remains quiet as I pull out of my driveway. My car is an old, red Jeep Cherokee that has seen much better days.
Neither of us talk as I drive across town to Lainey's neighborhood.
"I still don't believe you sleepwalked to my house." I say.
There is no way, it would have taken her at least an hour.
She only huffs in response and continues watching the streetlights as we drive past them.

"I know you hate me, but do you think we can keep this to ourselves," Lainey whispers as I stop in front of her house.
It's the first time she's talked to me the entire ride.
I was about to respond with a shitty remark when I see her face. She looks genuinely scared and ashamed.
Despite how fun it would be to tell everyone at school about our little encounter I say, "Okay, this can stay in-between us."
Her nose scrunches as she stares at me, "Swear it!"
I sigh, "Fine." I lift my hand to my heart. "I swear I will never speak of the time Lainey Smit climbed into my bed and wanted me to cuddle with her."
Lainey smacks my arm. "I did not!" She grins. "In fact I was so disgusted I mouth vomited."
I chuckle and Lainey softly shakes her head. "Thanks, Owen."
"I'm sorry about tonight." She looks down and a soft dusting of pink covers her cheeks, "Trust me, it wasn't planned."
"You're welcome. It's a memory I will never forget," I say with a smirk.
Lainey jumps out of my car and jogs to a tree beside her house and climbs up it. The she walks across her roof, and pulls open her window.
Before I drive away, she looks over and flips me the bird.
I return the gesture and speed away, making my engine scream. Hopefully, her parents will catch her sneaking in.
Dang, I wish I would have said that promise with my fingers crossed, I think as I drive home.
As always please leave your thoughts!!
