Chapter 1261:

And so did Drucker. However, his orders had been clear, so he had no choice but to hold his ground and assert his accusations. “It is a banned substance! The fact that it was used in creating your perfumes means that you broke the law!”

Allison sneered. “Excuse me for a moment, but as far as I recall, Vrining has never prohibited the use of mercury grass. The government simply cautioned the public not to use it in excess. If we are not allowed to use anything that can harm our bodies, like you insist, then by your logic, we must not season our food, either.”

Allison stepped closer to Drucker, her voice turning low and vaguely threatening. “You put salt in your food, don’t you, Mr. Foster?” Drucker was stunned into silence.

Knowing that he couldn’t win the argument, Drucker glanced pointedly at the testing personnel next to him.

The hapless man looked uncomfortable. He had been temporarily transferred from the research institute and had no real stake in this situation. “Existing research shows that only an excessive consumption of salt can cause death or any other health complications,” he said slowly. “Humans are not meant to eat forty grams of salt in one meal.”

“And do humans spray forty bottles of perfume at any given time?” Allison retorted sharply.

This earned a round of laughter from her colleagues. They were no fools — they knew that Drucker was deliberately trying to find fault with them.

“What are you laughing at? Shut up!” Drucker swept a furious glance over the room. “I’m going to call the mayor right now and ask for a special arrest warrant to be approved. Nothing you say on this matter can stop me!”

Before he could make good on his threat, however, Kellan’s phone rang.

All heads turned in his direction.

Kellan calmly fished his phone from his pocket, answered the call, and put it on speaker. “Did you find anything?”

“We found it, Mr. Lloyd,” Sherman’s voice came through the line. He had carefully examined the documents. “Drucker Foster, the inspector from Vrining, has a history of offering bribes but was able to regain his position under the guarantee of Mayor Lewis,” Sherman said emphatically. “Not long after his reinstatement three years ago, he resumed his old ways, deceiving his superiors and taking kickbacks from various projects. He has since received millions in illicit money from different companies, both large and small.”

It was all Kellan needed to hear. He hung up the phone, his expression grim.

“With all due respect, Mr. Foster, I’m afraid that instead of targeting Arome Tower, you would do well to prepare yourself for prison.” Although his tone sounded casual, his face was terrifying.

Drucker could practically feel himself falling into the abyss, with nothing to hold on to.

“You… you’re lying! This is slander!” Despite his outburst, beads of cold sweat were already dotting his forehead.

Deep down, Drucker knew that everything Sherman had said was true. And there was no doubt that Kellan had proof of it all.

No, this couldn’t be happening.

Once the mayor caught wind of his misdeeds, his life in Vrining was as good as over. He’d be finished.
