Chapter 496:

From her past experiences, rejecting him seemed like the only choice. But she couldnât bring herself to say the words.
Time passed, and Kellan remained silent, watching her. She met his gaze, finally speaking.
âI need time to think.â
âHow long?â he pressed, his tone unwavering.
She pushed him back a step, trying to maintain some distance. âDepends on my mood.â
Her thoughts were a tangled mess.
âUntil I make up my mind, Mr. Lloyd, try not to hover around me. It might sway my decision.â
But Kellan didnât back down. âDo you remember our deal to be a couple for a day, Ms. Clarke?â
Allison hesitated, though she had no intention of breaking their agreement.
âWhen are you free?â
âTomorrow,â he replied, a slight smirk tugging at his lips. âOr even now.â
âTomorrow,â she sighed, rolling her eyes. âAnd you can plan the details. I donât need to be consulted.â

Just as she finished, she saw Gordon approaching.
âAllison!â Gordon called, his brow furrowed. He looked at Kellan with an icy glare, as if fearing sheâd been mistreated.
âAm I late? Are you okay?â
âNothing serious,â she replied calmly. âAnd Miss Perry?â
Gordonâs voice held a note of satisfaction. âI gave her a gift. Sheâs likely in the hospital for a few days. Mr. Lloyd, youâre not upset, are you?â
Kellanâs expression remained steely. âI have no interest in Caroleâs affairs. The Herbert family values shouldnât permit you to disrupt others at will.â
âIt is rude,â Gordon agreed with a smile, âbut Allisonâs not âothers.ââ
Neither man showed any sign of backing down, and Allison finally snapped.
âBoth of you, quiet.â
It felt like history repeating itself. She turned to Gordon.
âLetâs get to the point.â
Gordon hesitated. âBut Kellanâs hereâ¦â
âIt doesnât matter. Heâs going to Vrining too. Weâre⦠in a partnership now.â
A partnership?
The word left both men visibly grim.
After a moment, Gordon handed Allison a document.
