Chapter 497:

âThe earring is indeed in Fleeingland and linked to a human experimentation lab, but the blood on it belongs to a stranger.â
Allison flipped through the report, her gaze settling on the profile of an unfamiliar woman.
âLilian Reynard, thirty-eight, from Vrining.â
She examined the details. âMy mother wouldnât know her. Thereâs no logical reason for her to have this earring.â
âShe has a record,â Gordon explained. âTen years ago, she was well-known in the underground gambling rings of Vrining, working as a dealer. But she couldnât resist the thrill, lost everything, and fell into debt. In the end, she resorted to selling herself to survive. Eventually, she was caught and spent time in jail.â
Allison leaned back, processing the information. âA woman desperate and short on cash⦠it seems likely she stole it.â She doubted her mother would have given such a meaningful keepsake to someone like that.
Kellan considered her request, then nodded. âIâll help you find the black market trader as soon as possible.â
âThank you, Mr. Lloyd.â Allison wasnât one for unnecessary pleasantries. Since Kellan was already involved, sheâd leave it at that.
But Gordon bristled, visibly unhappy. âSince Mr. Lloyd is so helpful, why donât you take a break today, Allison?â he suggested, giving her a hopeful look. âHow about a movie tonight?â
Kellan shot him a glance. âTonightâs showing is a horror movie. If you actually want her to relax, maybe pick something less⦠intense.â

Gordon opened his mouth, momentarily speechless, before forcing a smile. âWell, maybe if someone hadnât interrupted our earlier conversation, sheâd already be relaxing.â
âOh, my apologies for that.â Kellanâs tone was civil but icy. The tension between the two men was almost palpable. Allison felt the onset of a headache.
She looked at them both flatly. âYou two enjoy your chat. I have work to do.â
Without waiting for a reply, Allison turned and walked away, leaving Kellan and Gordon behind in the silent alley. Neither said a word. The two men spun on their heels and left in opposite directions.
At the secret base in Muisvedo, Amya was hunched over a massive holographic screen, scanning through streams of complex data. She was so absorbed in her work that she didnât notice Allison standing behind her until a light tap on her shoulder made her jump.
âHowâs the mainframe restoration coming along?â Allison asked, her voice calm.
Amya nearly fell out of her chair, clutching her chest with a gasp. âBoss, you walk like a ghost!â
Allison smirked. âOr maybe youâre just easily startled.â
Amya chuckled sheepishly, glancing back at the screen. âWell, weâre close â only thirty percent of the garbled data left to clear.â
âGood job.â Allison nodded approvingly. âOnce the mainframeâs fixed, youâll get a bonus.â
Amya beamed. âThanks, boss!â
