Chapter 587:
But the damage was already done.
Allison smirked. âPlenty of cameras were there. So whether Iâm lying or not, you already know the truth.â There was a mocking tone in her voice. âInteresting, though, you never cared about Colton. But suddenly, youâre all concerned.â Her words landed like a bombshell.
The crowd gasped, reaching for their phones to dig for more gossip.
âWhoa, this is getting good! Can we really just stand here and listen to all this drama for free?â
âWhoâd have guessed? They look so proper, but behind closed doors, thereâs so much scandal.â
âSo, Miss Johnson and her ex-husband are still close?â
âPoor Colton, his wife, and his mother both have, letâs say, questionable connections with other men.â
The murmuring cut through the air like knives, each whisper stinging Lindy with the humiliation of public exposure. She looked like she wanted to disappear.
Enraged, she could no longer maintain her composure. âAllison! Quit spreading lies!â
Sensing that Lindy was on the verge of snapping, Ferdinand took the opportunity to stir the pot a little more.
âNow, now, Lindy, before you worry about clearing your name, maybe you should consider those situations with certain employees. If thereâs any truth to them, it wouldnât take much for our family to uncover.â
As the sole heir to the Blakely family, his calm smile held a hint of menace.
Lindyâs face went pale as she remembered many of the places sheâd visited with her lover were owned by the Blakelys. Whether Ferdinand had proof or not, she was too terrified to push any further.
Watching Lindyâs confidence crumble, Rebecca laughed out loud. âThis is better than a show! I love it!â she cheered, clapping as she was thoroughly enjoying the spectacle. âItâs obvious to anyone with half a brain that youâre all just here to squeeze some money out of this.â
Lindy, the dignified Mrs. Stevens, was now openly accused of being a swindler out for a payout. She couldnât swallow the insult.
âThis is going too far! Allison and my son were married for three years, so whatâs wrong with wanting her to help him out?â
Lindy shot to her feet, her last ounce of caution slipping away as fury took over. But after her earlier performance of crocodile tears, her mascara was a mess. Dark smudges surrounded her eyes, swollen and reddened, giving her a look of madness.
Kellan raised his gaze, looking at her with nothing short of contempt, as though she were a sideshow attraction.
âLindy, if youâre going to throw a fit, maybe aim it at the right person.â
Melany, hiding at the back, froze at his words.
