Chapter 596:
Allison folded her arms, her voice calm but taunting. âNot quite fourteen million yet, so no need to rush. You still have plenty of daylight for more slaps.â
Melanyâs face, already red from the slaps, blanched at the thought. Even less than fourteen million? She felt like she was losing a part of herself with each slap, and the money they earned was far less than she expected.
She dreaded the idea of collapsing before she could secure Coltonâs freedom.
âLindy, maybe we should go home first and talk to Keanu about all of this,â she whispered urgently.
Lindy frowned, her hesitation clear. âBut if he learns about this incidentâ¦â
Melany had only one hope left: that Keanu would step in. She angled her brow just so, crafting an air of quiet distress. âLindy, timeâs slipping away. The longer Coltonâs stuck in Muisvedo, the worse his chances get.â
Her original plan had been simple â bringing Lindy along to provoke Allison. But fate had turned the tables, and now, all she wanted was to leave before the night could offer up any further humiliation. âEven if Colton made mistakes, Keanu wouldnât just sit back and do nothing,â she said, hoping to draw attention to her words.
Lindy latched onto the sentiment, her own embarrassment vanishing under a surge of renewed resolve. âRight! Thereâs no way he could be so heartless!â
Melanyâs comment inspired her; it took hold of her will. It fed her anger like fuel to a flame. Past grievances played out in her mind, until they hit a boiling point.
âAllison, I hope youâre satisfied,â she snarled. âYou wonât get off that easily â Iâll make sure your life is a living hell!â
Sweeping her gaze over the crowd, Lindy caught sight of herself in a nearby mirror. Her once sophisticated designer outfit was now covered in mud, and one of her earrings was missing. Her wrist was bruised and red, and her face was marked with red and pale streaks. Not a trace of her wealthy elegance remained.
The sight of herself, compounded by the smug, entertained glances from the onlookers, made her blood boil. âWhatâs so funny? You bunch of shallow-minded fools!â she seethed, her cheeks flushed with anger.
Lindy pointed directly at Allison, the last remnant of civility between them shattering like fragile glass. âI never thought youâd sink so low, you wretchââ
But before the words left her mouth, a shriek erupted. âAhhh! Let go!â No one saw Allison move from her spot.
She grabbed Lindyâs finger and bent it back easily until a sharp, sickening crack echoed.
Lindy staggered back, her face twisted in agony and disbelief. If Melany hadnât caught her, she would have fallen to the ground.
âAllison, are you out of your mind? How dare you!â Lindy cried, the searing pain forcing tears to her eyes. For all she knew, her finger might as well be broken.
Allisonâs lips twisted into a cold, mocking smile. âOh, you didnât know?â she replied icily. âIâm a madwoman, Lindy. So, for your own good, donât push me again â or Iâll make your life a living nightmare.â
Normally, Lindy wouldnât let anyone treat her like this. But something about the look in Allisonâs eyes sent a chill rippling through her, anchoring her to the spot in terrified silence. It was a cold, threatening energy, which only made Lindy shrink back in fear.
