Chapter 878:
âTonight, Josh will be gone, and the mayor will have no choice but to back me,â he said.
Those words werenât meant for her to hear.
But maybe because of her soft demeanor and calming presence, he let his guard down.
Allison pretended to be obedient, replying, âYouâll definitely succeed.â
She realized that Verrucktâs main plan for the night was to take out Josh.
At the same time, Kylo had his sights set on eliminating both Verruckt and Josh. A confrontation was inevitable.
While she was lost in thought, Verruckt lifted her chin again.
âAlice, you wonât turn on me, will you?â he asked. He seemed to smile, but his crimson eyes hid a deadly intent.
Allison quickly grasped the meaning behind his words.
If she betrayed him, the consequences would be fatal.
But she wasnât Alice.

âOf course, I swear I wonât betray you,â Allison said with a concerned tone, though her words were far from sincere. âMr. Shaw, I just hope you make it out alive.â Her simple reply made Verrucktâs expression even harder to read.
âI promise you,â he said.
Verruckt stared deeply into her eyes. âOnce this mission is over, Iâll give you a new identity so you can stay with me forever.â
Allison nodded. âThen Iâll be waiting for the good news, Mr. Shaw.â
Verruckt chuckled softly.
His low voice drifted into her ear. âSay my name,â he demanded.
âVerruckt,â she replied.
At that moment, Verruckt felt a rush of emotion, something that eased his uneasy mood.
âWait for me to return.â
Verruckt wasnât sure if this feeling of possessiveness was truly affection.
But he knew one thing â whatever he wanted, he would get.
And he had all the time in the world to figure out what this feeling in his heart really meant.
Allison froze.
From where she stood, she could make out Verrucktâs pronounced Adamâs apple and the smooth, exposed lines of his neck and collarbone, framed by several undone buttons.
What unsettled her most was the strong sense that he had little control over himself because of how close they were.
It was like being near a predator, ready to strike.
