Chapter 894:
She spun around in panic, only to see that Allison had already slipped into the elevator during the brief pause between the lasersâ shots.
Allisonâs voice was sharp and unyielding as she gave the order. âGrab her.â
âAnd who do you think you are to have the right to touch me? Youâre out of your mind!â Lena began to argue. But before she could say more, the men in black wrestled her to the floor.
Meanwhile, Allison calmly pressed the button for the first floor with practiced ease.
She glanced at the time. By now, Kellan should have cleared the second basement. As the elevator began to rise, a violent jolt shook it, as if the building itself had quaked. Moments later, it dropped sharply, plunging downward.
Everyone instinctively pressed themselves against the elevator walls. Lenaâs face turned ghostly white, her fear evident.
Allison suspected that the sudden activation of the Meteor System earlier was connected to what was happening now. âStay calm,â she said firmly, her voice steady.
As she had anticipated, the elevatorâs buffer system engaged, preventing a fatal crash.
When the elevator finally stopped at the second basement level, the doors creaked open, releasing a wave of scorching heat.
âWhat are your orders, Ms. Clarke?â one of the men in black asked, his voice steady as he pressed the elevator buttons repeatedly.
Nothing happened. The elevator had lost power, and the floor numbers on the display had vanished.
Thick smoke began to seep into the elevator, quickly filling the space and triggering violent coughing fits from everyone. Lena, still shaken, froze. Her mind raced, trying to comprehend what the man had just called Allison.
Ms. Clarke?
Wasnât that woman supposed to be Alice?
Lena barely had time to process the thought before the suffocating smoke became unbearable. The men in black seemed only concerned with Allison, completely ignoring her.
âGet down low, everyone! Weâre using the emergency exit!â Allison commanded sharply.
Squinting through the haze, she focused on the direction of Verrucktâs office.
âCover your noses, and donât fall behind!â she added.
âUnderstood,â the men in black replied in unison. Without hesitation, they followed Allison, carrying the test subjects as they pushed forward.
By now, flames had engulfed the document storage area. The oppressive heat scorched their skin, making every step agonizing.
They couldnât afford to stop, terrified that the raging flames might overtake them.
When they finally reached Verrucktâs office, Allison delivered a powerful kick to the door, sending it flying open with a resounding bang.
