Chapter 961:
âThereâs no need to thank me. Iâm always concerned about Keanu, after all,â Allison replied. She kept a deliberate distance from him.
This made Coltonâs pain flare up once more. He felt a mix of frustration and anger. He had been hurt because of her, yet she showed no sign of care or guilt.
The butler spoke. âMrs. Stevens said you died overseas, but Ms. Clarke insisted you were still alive.â
He thought it was odd. âBut we couldnât find any record of your flight. When did you arrive, sir?â
The butlerâs question was on everyoneâs mind.
âI didnât fly. I came back by ship,â Colton said, glancing at Allison before adding a quick explanation. âAfter the explosion in Fleeingland, many transportation options were cut, especially flights. Since I was close to the explosion, getting a plane ticket was even harder, so I took a ship.â
âWhy couldnât we reach you?â Lindy asked, her voice filled with worry. She spoke as the doctor tended to Colton. âMy poor boy, how did you end up with so many injuries?â
Coltonâs voice was raspy as he tried to explain. âIn fact, I was caught in the explosion and taken to the hospital. I was out cold for a while, and someone stole my phone, but luckily, a few kind people helped me,â Colton explained.
He had believed Melany would come looking for him.

At that thought, Colton glanced at the woman in the corner. Her face was slightly puffed up, her hair messy, and she avoided his gaze.
âMelany, were you the one who told Grandpa I was dead?â Colton asked, his voice sharp and cold. âBut after I went missing, you never contacted the police.â
With tears welling in her eyes, Melany replied, âIt wasnât like that. I really thought you were still alive. After our argument, I assumed you were just staying away from me. I waited for days. After hearing about the research institute explosion, everyone said there were no survivors. I nearly passed out because of the baby. When I got home, I couldnât bring myself to tell my parents. I was afraid they wouldnât handle the news.â
As she spoke, Melany gently rubbed her belly, tears streaming down her face. âI went to great lengths to find out the truth. The photos show that Allison was there that day. She always harbored resentment toward me, and not long ago, she nearly ran us over with her carâ¦â She lifted her finger and pointed to the photos. âThis is the proof,â Melany declared.
In truth, Melany had rushed back to the country right after the incident. She even suspected that Colton had somehow caused the explosion by stealing medicine. But in the end, she decided it was best to place all the blame on Allison.
âThatâs right! Since the divorce, Allison has hated our family!â Lindy, visibly upset, shoved the photos from the coffee table toward Colton. âYou went to the Fleeingland Lab for medicine, and what a coincidence â she just happened to be there too!â
Lindy got angry as she looked at Melany, who was only crying helplessly when confronted with Allison. How useless! Still, when she compared Melany to the arrogant Allison, she preferred Melany.
