Chapter 631 Agnes was the first to step out of the study.
Jared and Ryder were not far behind.
Once outside, Ryder grabbed Agnesâ hand and led her to the balcony at the end of the corridor.
Jared watched them leave with cold eyes, but didnât follow As it turned out, Agnes had something to say to Ryder too.
So, she let Ryder lead her to the balcony.
This was an aerial garden at the Whitfield Manor.
It used to be Agnesâ favorite spot.
There was a small wooden table and some log chairs on the balcony.
Ryder let go of Agnesâ hand once they reached the balcony.
Turning around, he asked, âDid you intentionally let my uncle find out?â
Though it was a question, his tone suggested he already knew the answer.
Agnes was at a loss for a moment. But she quickly realized that he was talking about Nocturneâs identity.
He thought she had purposely let Jared know that Nocturne was his child.
Agnes chuckled, âWhy would I do that? You know better than anyone that my biggest fear is Jared finding out about Nocturne Ryderâs voice was cold and ruthless, âIsnât it because old flames die hard?â
Agnes felt a pang in her heart, as if pierced by his words.
With a hint of anger, she retorted, âRyder, I wouldnât do such a petty thing. I donât want any more emotional entanglement with the Whitfields, Jared or you, got it?
Ryder frowned.
Agnes continued, âSince weâre on the topic, Iâll clear the air about the past today. I know what youâre up to. You just proposed to me in front of Tim, but you donât really want to marry me. Youâre just trying to rile Tim up, make him think Iâve been indecisive between you and Jared all these years, make him believe Iâm using your feelings to get back at the Whitfields, so heâll oppose my reuniting with Jared. Thatâs your real aim.â
Ryderâs gaze shifted a bit but he appeared nonchalant, âYes, I didnât expect to come back and hear you two are getting back together. I know my uncleâs stubbornness. My grandfather would eventually give in. But if he thinks youâve been playing games between us, heâll never agree to your reunion.â
Agnes laughed coldly, âIn fact, I should really thank you.â
Ryderâs eyes were icy, as if he could see right through her, âI canât see any gratitude in you. Were you already wavering, using Nocturneâs identity as a convenient excuse to reunite with my uncle?â
Agnes snapped, âRyder, donât think you know me. How would you know what I truly want? I never thought about remarrying Jared. Weâll never get back together.â
Suddenly, Agnes felt angry, though she didnât know why.
She was also feeling a bit unsettled.
Just a moment ago, she seemed to waver.
Over the years, Agnes often wondered if things werenât as they seemed back then.
If Alyssa had only been covering for Laura, could she and Jared have a second chance?
