Esme's pov

The familiarity of my coven calms me and I open the doors, stepping inside. Not even bothering with the others who stop to bow their heads in my direction, I head straight to my study. My coven is located deep in the black forest in plain sight but hidden that no matter how much magic will be used, no one will be able to find it.

Stepping inside the room, I find my assistant's concentration deep in the bowl in front of him, big round glasses perched on his pointed nose and tongue sticking out as he takes something from the small basket beside him, his muscles flexing with every movement as sprinkles it inside.

Steam erupts from the bowl as it starts boiling and I smirk knowing that the next part is a bit trickery and if he doesn't take care it's gonna explode in his face. He grabs the potion, uncapping it before he wets his pink lips staring at it in concentration.

"What are you doing?"

He jumps back in fright, dropping the small bottle of potion in it and just as expected, it explodes in his face. A laugh tumbles from my lips and I bring my hands to my mouth, muffling the laugh.

He coughs out smoke, takes his glasses off and rubs the black smoke on it before he places it back on his face. He glares in my direction, a frown on his face and I chuckle.

"When will you stop doing that?" He snaps angrily and I shrug, walking in his direction and sling my arm over his shoulder.

"Never and besides if I don't mess with you, who else is gonna entertain me?" I pout and he throws my arm away from his shoulder and steps away from me.

"Well I don't like it." His deep voice says and I shrug again looking around the mess created in my study. Looking at the place, I frown to myself thinking that I need to change those bright ugly red curtains that don't match with the grey walls.

My gaze lands on him and I tilt my head to the side, staring at him. He black hair flops messily on his forehead, brooding green eyes staring in my direction and a cute pout on his lips.

I smile at him, raising my hand in his direction and his eyes widen before he ducks.

I scowl at him. "I'm not gonna do anything to you."

He scoffs, pushing his hair from his forehead and adjusts his glasses. "Well I don't trust you."

My scowl deepens and I roll my eyes at him, before looking around and clearing the mess in the room.  I turn around to face him, a blank look on my face. "See."

He shrugs, rising to his feet. "Being by your side has taught me to be weary of that hand of yours."

"Whatever." I say, walking over to the red couch and slumping in it. "I need your help."

He quirks his brow in question. "What does the all so mighty Esme need from a lowly assistant like me?"

My eyes narrow in his direction and he raises his hand in surrender before sitting by me.

"What do you need help with?"

I sigh, releasing my hair from the bun. "I need to find my sister."

The air in the room suddenly takes a chilling shift, darkness enveloping the room and I glance sideways to see black eyes glaring in my direction. I purse my lips, shaking my head before I raise my hand to smack his head.

"Snap out of it." I snap, glaring at him and he takes deep breaths, closing his eyes before opening them once again to the beautiful green. The darkness slowly withdraws away and I sigh in relief.

He lowers his head, looking away from me. "I'm sorry." He mumbles and I sigh.

"Sorry won't fix anything if you had lost control Alec." I snap irritatingly. "I've told you that you're extremely powerful so if you lose control, none of us are gonna benefit from it."

"I know." He mumbles and I narrow my eyes, smacking his head again.

"If you did, you wouldn't have lost control like that."

This time he looks up to glare at me, brows drawn together. "Well excuse me if at the mention of that horrid creature you call sister it invokes the darkness within-Ouch!!"

He rubs his arm, the glare even deepening. "Why did you pinch me?!"

I shrug, resting my head on his shoulder. "You were talking too much." I don't even have to look up to see him staring at me in shock.

"Unbelievable." He mutters under his breath. It's quiet for sometime before he speaks again. "Did Alpha Artemis say you should find her?"

I raise my head, shaking it and he purses his lips.

"Then why do you want to find her?"

I get up from the couch, stretching my arms towards the bookshelf before the book I'm looking for flies into my hand. Flipping the pages of the worn out book of afterlife spells, I stop at one particular page before looking in his direction. "My sister brought a soul back from the afterlife."

He stands up abruptly, eyes wide and jaw dropped. "W-what?"

I shrug, placing the book on the table. Alec moves to my side, glancing at the words written in the page before he stares at me in shock.

"Esme!" He yells, glaring daggers at me. "You know you can't do this without comprising your own soul!"

I groan, rubbing my ear from his sudden outburst. "I know that, you don't need to shout."

"Then why are you looking at the spell?"

I give him a blank look as if trying to tell him he is quite stupid for asking a question with an obvious answer and it doesn't take long for his expression to drop.

"You wanna learn how she did it." He answers himself and I smile sarcastically at him.

"Smart boy." I say before looking back into the book. " I want to know how much she lost so when I meet her, I won't be surprised."

Alec groans, slamming the book shut and faces me with a glare. "You don't need to see her."

I raise my brow at him. "Yes I do." And a slow smirk creeps on my face. "Besides, I'm looking forward to the reunion."

He groans again, throwing his arms in exasperation. "You're impossible but I'm going with you."

I study his unwavering gaze before shrugging. "Your funeral Alec."

Alec rolls his eyes and scoffs at me. "It's her funeral."

It probably would have been her funeral if she still had the same powers before bringing Ares soul back but now that she has completely lost her soul, it's probably going to be our funeral. I mentally sigh, wondering how I could have lost her to the darkness of black magic.

I'm the eldest by five minutes but it still doesn't change the fact that I couldn't even protect her when I saw the changes. Mom and dad didn't even know that she was experimenting with black magic but I guess it's my fault as well for not keeping a close eye on her.

A comforting hand rest on my shoulder and I glance sideways to see a small knowing smile on Alec's face. "It's not your fault Esme."

I shrug, replacing the sad look with a stoic one. "Whatever, get the candles ready."

His brows furrow in confusion and I sigh shaking my head at him. "Knowing my sister, it wouldn't be easy to use a locater's spell, so I have to be a bit old fashioned."

He nods in understanding and walks over the the ancient looking candles placed neatly on top of the shelf. Alec brings them down and I take them from his hand. Closing my eyes I whisper a spell underneath my breath, a gush of wind follows through the room and everything becomes dark.

I look at the candle glowing brightly in my hand even though it hasn't been lit yet, before I turn around, facing the direction which I think Alec is standing.

"Arrange them in a cross form and place the smallest in the middle." I instruct and footsteps rush over to me, taking the box away from my hand. I watch in silence as he does it and he steps back coming to my side.

"Now what?" He questions and I ignore him, taking deep breaths. My eyes turn black as I whisper the spell. The room becomes silent and the sound of our breathing can be heard before a sudden whirl of wind surrounds us and I feel myself floating.

"Alec." My voice sounds deep to my ears.

"Yeah." He responds.

"Once I get the portal opened, jump in as quickly as you can." I rush out, feeling my energy draining. Damn that little twat! She has really gotten strong over the past decades. I can't even hold on much longer.

"Okay." Alec says and muttering one last final words under my breath, the ground opens up, a dark abyss staring at us and without wasting any time I yell at him to jump.

He does and immediately I follow after, nearly losing my leg from how sharply it closed. I huff, glaring at nothing. She is so going to get it!

"That was close." Alec mutters and I turn around taking in my surroundings. This place looks totally unfamiliar.

Alec pushes his hair from his face, looking around until his gaze lands on me and his brows furrow. "Where are we?"

Exactly what I'm thinking. My sister has never been one to live in the mountains but judging from mountainous area with the caves in front of us, I guess I stand corrected.

"I'm not sure." I reply still looking around the gloomy place surrounded by mountains. There is not a single tree in sight.

Alec purses his lips and stares ahead of us. "Should we go or..?"

I frown, taking deep breaths as I continue to look around. Something doesn't feel right. Alec takes a step forward but I grab his arm, stopping him in his tracks.

He looks over his shoulder to face me and quirks his brow. "What?"

I frown, placing my hand on my hip as I look around the place one last time. This is an illusion. My lips tilt up in a smirk and I chuckle, shaking my head at the thought of my sister knowing exactly that we would come and see her soon.

Alec gives me a confused look, probably wondering why I'm chuckling to myself. Ignoring his questioning gaze, I take a look at the place before I smile again.

"Saeleste ratoma." I whisper and everything suddenly disappears and the clear view of where my sister is appears.

Alec's jaw drops as we both stare at the gate of the underworld of black witches. Such a smart girl to conceal where she is but I'm smarter. I knew if we had taken a step, we would have been trapped in an endless maze of our own nightmares and fears.

"How.." Alec trails off staring at the eerie looking place that almost looks like a graveyard. Well it is a graveyard with the skeletons and tombstones surrounding some parts of it.

I shake my head and smack his arm. "Have you not learnt anything?"

He frowns opening his mouth to retort but closes it once he sees my sharp glare. He sighs, lowering his head before looking up once again with a thoughtful look on his face. The underworld of the black witches is not a place that can easily be found no matter your ranking as a witch or as Alec is, a warlock.

The eerie and creepy feeling of the place nearly sends shivers down my spine. How can my sister handle this darkness heck with the little amount of darkness surrounding this place is quite suffocating. I snicker inwardly, who am I kidding? Her heart is as black as coal that this darkness is nothing compared to what is within her.

"Should we go in?" Alec's question pulls me out from my thoughts and I purse my lips, staring at the rustic gate with thorns slowly growing on both sides. Flowers sprout but it quickly dies just as it sprouted and my heart feels heavy at the thought they weren't able to bloom before they died

She really hates life.

"Entering is suicidal." I say still staring straight ahead before a slow smirk creeps on my face. "She's coming."

Alec clenches his jaw, fist clenched tightly to his side as he glares at the gate that screeches and creaks open. We stand in silence, watching as it finally opens. The gravels crunch underneath the steps of someone, a mist surrounds the place and a shadow hidden within the fog moves slowly but gracefully toward us almost as if the shadow is gliding with it.

I hear teeth grinding from my side and I press my lips into a thin line. "Keep calm."

His eyes narrow before he takes deep breath, a calm expression replacing the anger that was previously on his face. Satisfied with his control, I look forward, a scream nearly escaping my lips from how close she is standing and a shiver creeps up my spine for staring into black pools of eyes.

Staring into those eyes is like staring into darkness and death and even  a powerful witch like myself can't handle such darkness.

Her red hair floats around her, a fair white skin without blemish, dressed in pure white lace cloak that does nothing to hide her figure and red lips tilted up in a smirk. Contrary to what you might think when you hear my sister is a black witch, you would expect everything of her to look exactly like a typical black witch, black veins, a deadly aura, black lips but that is not the case.

Standing there, she looks like a complete angel except for those dark, soulless eyes. Looking at her is like staring at my own reflection and I sigh. She tilts her head to the side, brows raised before she smiles showing perfect white teeth.

"Hello sister." Her voice chilly yet soft and I give her a blank look.
