Chapter 422 The Father Of The Child âMiss Melanie, there will be a jewelry fashion show held in Medonia the day after tomorrow. I reserved a VIP ticket for you, do you want to attend it?â Linda extended an invitation to Melanie.
Melanie turned to look at Cyrus.
Cyrus knew what she was worried about. The friendly competition was just around the corner, but she wasnât yet ready for it.
âWhatâs the matter?â
Linda could sense Melanieâs hesitation and went on, âI wasnât joking when I said that Iâd invest in your perfumes. Iâm sincere about it. Mr. York will also be present at the jewelry show. With you around, the three of us can have a good chat.â
Cyrus nodded at Melanie. Melanie pondered for a moment before saying, âAlright, then. Iâll be there on time. Thank you for your invitation.â
âDonât mention it!â Linda hung up, all smiles.
âGo with peace of mind. Donât worry about the competition. It isnât something of major significance anyway, youâd rather do something that you should be doing,â Cyrus persuaded Melanie.
Melanie thought about it before nodding. What he said made sense.
Being an excellent perfumer was a personal achievement of hers, but she was the head of the perfume department of Jones Enterprise. She had responsibilities to shoulder.
She returned to Marina Heights that night.
Jeffrey received multiple calls throughout dinner. When he finally had a chance to sit down, Melanie seized the chance to update him, âIâm going to Medonia tomorrow to meet Linda and Leo.â
Jeffreyâs brows furrowed as he turned to look at Melanie.
Before he could say no to her, she added hastily, âIâve already booked the plane tickets.â
âPresenting me with a fait accompli?â Jeffrey looked straight into Melanieâs eyes.
He didnât want her to meet Leo. Things in the Yorks were way too complex. Whatâs worse was that Lindaâs ulterior motive was even more mysterious and uncontrollable. Given Melanieâs physical condition right now, he couldnât afford for anything to go wrong.
1/3 +15 BONOS He had been very busy recently, and her impending departure without prior warning gave him no time to make any preparations...
âAnnie will come with me. The Snowsâ men will protect me in secret as well. You donât need to worry about me.â Melanie comforted him.
Jeffrey felt more relieved, but he insisted, âThere is an opening ceremony tomorrow, for which I must stay in the country. Iâll head over to find you right after Iâm done.â
The last time Jeffrey got injured, news about his injury leaked despite Morgan Groupâs efforts to lock down all information on it.
The global economy had been unstable recently, and opponents seized the chance to target Morgan Group, spreading rumors all around that Jeffreyâs condition was incurable and that there would be a huge shakeâup in Morgan Groupâs management.
Rumors were a fearful thing, and employees of Morgan Group began panicking. Even their business partners started feeling doubtful.
Jeffrey could only keep attending important events and disprove the rumors in person, making his schedule packed to the brim.
âNo need. If you keep appearing wherever I am, wouldnât that make things very obvious?â Melanie rejected his suggestion.
âTake it as an attempt to mentally prepare them. Weâll eventually announce our relationship to the public,â Jeffrey insisted. âOur baby will be born in a few monthsâ time. Heâs my child, and Iâll make sure he lives with his head held high. As his mother, do you really want to hide his existence from the world?â
âAs if Iâm begging for a chance to be the mother of Jeffrey Morganâs child!â Melanie went on with an arched brow. âIsnât there a possibility that someone might call you the father of Melanie Jonesâs child instead?â
âOf course, there is,â Jeffrey said with narrowed eyes as he leaned over, âbut Iâd rather not have that.â
âWhat do you mean?â She didnât understand his sudden declaration.
âShh...â
Jeffrey continued, leaning closer to her until his face rubbed gently against her belly. âLet me hear him out, and see how he wants others to call us!â
Melanie burst out laughing. âIâm only three months pregnant.â
+15 BONOS âThatâs right. We finally hit the threeâmonth mark.â
Jeffrey finally looked up, his eyes burning hotly.
Melanie understood what he meant in a split second, and said with pursed lips, âSeems like youâre not busy enough, President Morgan. Morgan Group isnât in enough of a crisis. Luxury leads to lust!â
âYouâre absolutely right!â
Jeffrey stretched his arms out and pulled her easily into his embrace. âItâs been so tough the past few months.â
The next day, Melanie sat on a plane bound for Medonia. Annie was by her side when the plane landed smoothly.
Annie went to retrieve their luggage while Melanie stayed at the lounge area waiting for her. She sat down by the door in the VIP lounge and flipped through a magazine she randomly picked up as people streamed past her.
Suddenly, a pair of feet stopped right before her and a manâs voice called out to her in shock, âAre you...the Genie of Fragrance?â
