XG 154 - Seek cooperation by delivering a bomb
The beta testers using booster shots have some control in manipulating the direction of their ability manifestation. Thus, they succeeded in getting useful abilities. For example, they got two electricity users, but one could have lighting flash around the sky, while the other emits small electricity that could charge up devices.
There was no record of insanity after the volunteers' Alpha gene was activated, but there was one record of failure. Even so, the total success rate was high, so the trial test could be considered a success. The side effects were just as they said, with some having more serious health decline, but it was not an overly serious issue that could not be fixed with more food consumption.
It was something worth to be celebrated and even those originally timid researchers started to show interest in getting their genes activated.
In this new era, those with weaker physical were more worried about their ability to survive than those with good physical strength. If they had useful abilities, they would no longer need to cower behind the strong and constantly need to worry about finding a safe place.
Wong Xue Guo was strangely glad that the apocalypse gave a portion of humanity a chance to gain ability because of the Alpha gene. It happened in many novels she had read, where ability users or the zombies would have a crystal nucleus in their brain and she never knew why it would be there. The crystal nucleus would either be their world's currency, or a power booster to upgrade their ability.
It was an overused idea by many authors, with greedy people killing other ability users to absorb their crystal nucleus to get stronger.
That was just sick with no one able to trust people and she was glad it was something that happened in a fictional book.
While everyone in the lab was busy with the Awakening process and stuff, the guard on duty at the newly built tall guardhouse noticed something unusual from his binoculars.
"Guys... trouble incoming!"
"Hmm? Are there more zombies that came over? Those are my targets, okay?" A guard with a beanie hat said.
Their base was quite an outskirt area, so even if there were occasionally zombies managed to wander over, it would not be an overwhelming number. They would be solved by the watch guards or people that wanted to train their combat skills.
"A white van is coming towards us at full speed!" There were three speakers installed on top of it, likely to be an election publicity van.
This would not be the first time someone had driven up to Musihada gates, requesting entry, only to be denied. Their base had too many unauthorized survivors camping on their land and they would not accept any more when they often caught people trying to break into their lab with sinister intentions. The uninvited guests often would have no choice but accept the verdict when faced with guns, but some had boldly tried to crash the gate down with a vehicle.
It was good that they fortified the gate whenever they had extra materials. But it was still better not to test how durable their gate was.
"The driver seems to be alone in the van. He's not slowing down! He's intending to barge in! Have the ability user group prepare for ambush!" The guard that was watching through the binoculars reported after seeing the van speed up the closer it got to the gates.
If it was only the van, the guards could handle it. But chasing right behind the vehicle was a horde of zombies that regained their ferocious energy as autumn arrived.
If the van did not stop and successfully brought down even a small part of the fence, the zombies would do whatever they could to force entry to reach for fresh meat!
"You! Run back to the main building and report the situation!" The team captain ordered his much lesser inexperienced colleague.
"Why not just ring the alarm if it's really a big issue? What can a van do to our strong fence anyway?" The young guard complained as he got his gun ready.
"You idiot! Can't you see what's behind the van? Ring the alarm will bring more zombies! That is what we should be afraid of! Just run when I tell you to!" The team captain roared and used his hat to smack the table, which got the young guard to finally move his ass to act as a messenger bird.
"Tell the people in the tents to get their asses ready as well! Running away is no use! Their only exit is the main gate!" The captain yelled at the back of the kid that quickly climbed down the guard tower.
"We have the communication line..." A soft-spoken guard finally spoke up.
The team captain cleared his throat and wear back his hat. "The people from the camping tents don't have it."
"Will those people even help and not run to the main building to create a scene to let them in?" A guard with shoulder length hair pressed down by a beanie hat asked, clearly having no good opinion about the survivors that camped at Musihada land.
Everyone in the lab has their own duties to do, which also included their family members. The wives could do many things, but they could only let their children do easy, but helpful tasks. It was thanks to the people in their base with good responsibility and character that their peace and cooperation could last till now.
While some would actively ask if they could use the extra land to do farming, there was also a small group that would not do anything and just wait for soft heart people to offer them food for free.
The top was discussing implementing a trial system for the survivors, where those that contributed something, such as working on the farm would be allowed to stay, while those that performed poorly during the trial would have their entry revoked.
The guards that always face the survivors living on Musihada land were the ones that wanted that plan to be implemented quickly.
"No matter what they do, we are the front lines. We have our job and stopping those zombies from testing if they are stronger than our gates."
"It's going to be dark soon," the soft-spoken guard said worriedly. The sky was already in an orange hue and the dark sky would make it harder for them to pinpoint their targets.
"Use the lights when the sky darkens. We do not need to conserve electricity in such times!" They do have an Awakened person with a power bank ability! "Where are the ability users? Why is there not a single one of them here today?!"
"They are all asked to help dig the underground for expansion..." the soft-spoken guard reminded.
The team captain cleared his throat again, rather embarrassed that he has forgotten. "What's with that? Not everyone's abilities are useful for digging! Why would they ask those Awaken to dig the tunnel? What a waste of resources!"
"Holy shit-!" The guard in the beanie hat cursed when the incoming van's loudspeakers came to life with a loud buzz.
"Hey! Hey! Musihada! Can you hear me! Hey! Hey!" A man's voice blared so loudly that even the town nearby could have heard his echo!
"How can we fucking not! This sicko!" The beanie hat guard adjusted his gun, peering into the lens. He was ready to shoot, but the distance between them was not within range yet for his bullet to hit!
"The vehicle is within reach!" The guard with binoculars reported after a short wait and the beanie hat guard immediately pulled the trigger.
The van nearly skied out of the path when a front tire got hit, and the distance between the vehicle and the zombies shortened. But it still persistently continues driving to Musihada gate in a crooked way.
The loudspeakers came into life again. "Hey, don't shoot! I'm here to cooperate and ask for help!"
"Who will seek cooperation by delivering a bomb?" With a click of his tongue, the beanie hat guard shot again, this time breaking a window.
The driver got some cuts from the broken glass, and the vehicle skied sharply from the fright. The front of the car was now facing the zombies, scaring him until he screamed but his body was moving quickly. The car knocked down some of the fast-running zombies and turned this van to face the proper way again.
The loudspeaker blared again, and this time the driver raised his voice, "I know someone that can chase the monsters away! She can remove the darkness from the monsters!"
"What is he talking about? Is he fucking high?" The guard in a beanie hat cursed in disbelief but was a little impressed the green-clothed guy could righten the van with a burst tire in time.
