Colby's POV

"Goddamn it." I hissed as I watched Julia walk through the crowd.

I didn't know how we could be so unlucky to end up in the same bar in the middle of fucking nowhere.

It pissed me off that she came between me and my job but it pissed me off even more at how beautiful she was.

I pushed away every memory of her the best that I could because it hurt to think about.

Seeing her tonight made me feel like I was kicked in the gut.

She was fucking stunning.

I couldn't lose focus because of her though. I had been in here for too long and was caught in the act.

I watched as Julia walked over to the man I was trying to capture. She pulled his shirt and kissed him sloppily causing me to roll my eyes.

I knew she was just doing that to make me jealous because she looked like she would rather be kissing anyone else but that man.

I clenched my jaw and turned around, walking out of the club. I had failed my task for the first time in years and it was just of Julia.

Typical.

I groaned and pulled out my pack of cigarettes and plucked one of them out, lighting it up.

It annoyed me that I couldn't do what I wanted to do. I wasn't even planning on killing the guy, but I needed to drug him so I could take him and question him.

The secret society has been working on a missing criminal case and Michael Octavia claimed he knew something.

One of my men has been watching him and he's been doing some shady shit.

I had a sneaking suspicion that he was part of a gang here.

Now, I had to fucking wait to get him.

I went to my car and watched the door, waiting for the two of them to come out.

I hated that I was going to have to follow them because I didn't want to be close to Julia.

I didn't want her to be close to any danger but she seemed to want to gravitate towards it.

I only sat in my car for a couple minutes before Julia and her annoying ass boyfriend were coming out of the club.

Julia looked physically upset and frazzled. I knew it was because she saw me but she should have been more worried about the stranger she was hanging out with.

I watched as they walked to the car then waited for them to leave. I followed behind them, not close enough for them to notice but close enough for me to follow them.

They pulled up to a random house that seemed to be in a nice area. The house was simple but looked big enough to house 5 people.

It had to be Julia's house.

I thought it was admirable that she bought such a quant place, knowing she could afford more with the money I gave her.

She was always into the more simple things.

I shook my head, pushing the thoughts of her away as the two of them walked to the front door.

Julia still looked upset but Michael looked like he was comforting her.

I watched them for a moment before he leaned in and kissed her. My stomach flipped at the gesture, but I ignored it.

There was no room to get into those kinds of feelings.

I wasn't here for pleasure, I was here to do my job. I already fucked up at the bar. I couldn't fuck up now.

I watched as Michael got in his car and started it. Part of me wanted to stay to watch the house just in case someone would try to break in, but I pushed those thoughts aside.

Do your job. Follow the guy.

I sighed and followed behind him. I knew I wouldn't be able to get him tonight because he probably saw me talking to Julia.

Part of me was worried that Julia would have told him who I was but I don't think she would do that.

She probably hated me so much and just wanted nothing to do with me.

Good. It needed to be that way.

We drove for a long ass time before he pulled into the driveway of a small house.

It was in the middle of nowhere but actually looked pretty nice. I parked far away enough for him to not see me, but close enough for me to see him.

I knew it was going to be a long ass night considering it was only eleven.

A couple hours passed of me just sitting in front of this dudes house, before my phone started ringing.

"Yes, Sam?" I answered, keeping my eyes on the door.

"Why are you stalking Julia?" He asked as I rolled my eyes. "What the hell are you talking about?" I asked with a bland tone.

"She called me and told me you ran into eachother. How did you even know where she was?" Sam asked as I narrowed my eyes.

"You have her phone number?" I asked as he breathed a laugh.

"Yeah, I had to help her get one set up after you left so we exchanged numbers. Now answer the question, man." Sam said as I closed my eyes.

"I'm not stalking her. I was just as shocked as she was when I saw her. It seems like no matter how much I tried to protect her from dangerous people, she seems to flock towards them." I said with an anger boiling inside of me.

It pissed me off that she kept getting herself into situations like this.

It wasn't hard to stay out of the crime world but she kept fucking weaseling her way into it.

"Is the guy she's with actually dangerous?" Sam asked, breaking my thoughts.

"I'm not sure. Right now he's shady and has information I need. I was at the club trying to drug him so I could take him in for questioning but Juliana had to fuck that up." I said with an annoyed tone.

"So you weren't happy to see her?" Sam asked I shook my head. "No. It pissed me off." I said, leaving the part out that it was mostly sexual frustration.

"She hung up the phone really suddenly and I heard some screaming." Sam said as my eyes widened slightly.

"Has she called you back yet?" I asked, keeping my voice level. "No, but you might wanna check it out." Sam said as I hummed.

"I'm busy." I said, even though part of me was curious to know what happened.

No.

It was her problem now. I wasn't going to get roped into it.

"Whatever. You know her boyfriend is a cop, right?" Sam asked, breaking the silence. "Had my suspicions but like I said, he's shady." I said and kept my eyes on his house.

"I wouldn't mess with him if he's a cop, Colby. You know how dangerous that can get." He said as I nodded.

I knew the consequences and that's why I was going to drug him. When I was done questioning I would drug him again and drop him off somewhere.

He would think he just got too wasted and wouldn't remember ever talking to me.

"I know what I'm doing." I said as he chuckled. "Alright..just try not to get caught up in Julia again. You know how bad it hurt to leave her." He said gently as I nodded.

"More than anything." I said then sighed. "I gotta focus so I'll let you go. If Julia gives you any more info, let me know." I said as he hummed. "Got it. Bye, man." Sam said then hung up.

I sighed then leaned back. I didn't really want to spend my night like this but it was necessary now.

Part of me wanted to listen to Sam and not bother with this because Michael was a cop but the other part knew if Julia was involved then I couldn't just let it go.

It infuriated me that I felt like that but seeing her brought up memories and feelings that I have been suppressing.

I fucking hated it.

I watched Michael's house for a while before I saw him leaving.

"Where the hell are you going?" I mumbled under my breath as he got to his car.

It was nearly two in the morning, where the fuck was he going this late?

Once he was far away enough I pulled out behind him and followed him.

He drove maybe ten minutes to what looked like a junkyard but he only stopped for a couple of minutes before he got back in his car and started driving again.

It took some time but before I knew it we were back at Julia's house.

Shit. Maybe something did happen.

I watched nervously as he walked to the front door.

He knocked and a few minutes later Julia was opening the door.

On her face was a look of shock and anger which most likely meant she wasn't expecting him.

I watched as she angrily spoke to him. She looked almost disappointed that he was there, and he looked angry at her disappointment.

I watched as he took a step closer to her, his fists clenched. Julia flinched back in fear.

He was gonna fucking hurt her.

I put my hand on the door handle, ready to jump in if I needed to but before I could do anything Julia's face went hard as steel.

She yelled at him, pointing towards his car. She was probably telling him to leave.

I couldn't help but chuckle at how aggressive she looked. She looked tiny compared to the man who was towering over her but she didn't give a fuck.

She wasn't going to let him hurt her.

I watched as she went inside and closed the door. Michael groaned and put his hands on his head, regret filling his features.

I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to feel about this guy but right now he seemed mostly normal.

I was just gonna have to keep watching him.
