Anna gasped and replied awkwardly to Wayne, âHey, you seem to be the president back then.â
âI am the president.â
âBut I wasnât in charge of the clothes brand back then,â he added.
Wayne looked at Andrew and said indifferently, âYou heard me on the phone this afternoon. So, do you still think Iâm a liar? Or is it that you just donât want to admit it yourself.â
Andrew was trembling with rage. He yelled angrily, âOh! But this happened because you guys were fighting over it. Youâre really disgusting! You take the designer as a scapegoat to take the blame for you.â
âOh, if you think so, then thereâs nothing I can say.â Wayne looked at him indifferently, then rolled the paper towel in his hand into a ball.
The white ball made a smooth arc in the air and smashed precisely into the trash can at the end of the bed.
In fact, if Anna wasnât curious about it, Wayne didnât even want to ask about these trifles that happened long ago. Besides, it was Richard who caused the trouble.
Anna looked at the two and said, âIf you ask me, I think this is a huge misunderstanding. Carousel Group failed to investigate the matter then but let an innocent staff take the responsibility. It was unfair, and that ruined Andrewâs career.â
Andrew couldnât agree more about that.
âBut, Mr. Cooper, although Carousel Group did wrong, you should not blame others without knowing the truth. You did exactly what executives of the Carousel Group did at the time.â
Andrewâs face paled a little when he heard these comments.
Anna realized that Andrew just looked cautious when he was telling the story. So, she figured he probably already knew that he had wronged Wayne and regretted it. To keep his dignity, he had to act as if he didnât know.
âOK, enough! Is it possible for you two to reconcile for my sake? Thank you for bringing me the fish, Mr. Cooper. Itâs delicious.
Did you bring me food in order to apologize to me?â
Anna said this to lighten the mood, but Andrew didnât even c***k a smile. Furthermore, Wayne, a man who was generally aloof, stood near him. They both ignored Anna, making things even more awkward between them.
âI think at least Andrew has to apologize to me,â Wayne remarked, pointing his index finger at the bruise on the corner of his mouth.
âLook what you did to me!â Andrew yelled angrily, pointing to the bruise on his eye.
âI did it to defend myself, but you were hurting me.â
Anna coughed loudly as she realized they were about to fight again. They then both stopped and looked at her nervously.
âHey, I traveled here all the way from Birmingham! Not only did I fail to get you to sign with me, but I got hurt! Iâm feeling very irritable right now. So, you guys need to stop fighting.â
When Wayne heard ber words, he felt guilty. He realized that Anna wouldnât have been hurt if it werenât for him. He was overcome with rage and gazed coldly at Andrew once more.
Andrew, not to be outdone, locked his gaze on him. He then looked at Anna and asked, âMiss Gabriel, is it true that your company has nothing to do with the Carousel Group?â
Anna nodded her head and said, âYes, itâs true. I used to work at the Carousel Groupâs hotel, but I no longer do. My family used to own lemon, and now Iâm the president of the company, Aona said the word âused toâ loudly as it she was trying to remind Wayne of something.
Wayne was going to say something else to Andrew. After hearing her words, he immediately shut his mouth.
Andrew nodded seriously and said, âOK, fine. Miss Gabriel, Iâm sorry for making you hurt. So, Iâm willing to work for you. Youâre free to ask me anything.â
Confused, Anna asked, âHuh? Really? Say that again, will you?â
Andrew thoughtfully repeated what he had just said, word for word.
Oh my God! I really didnât expect Andrew to take responsibility for this. It seems that my injury is well worth it.
Anna thought to herseli.
âGreat! Iâll write our contract and send it to you as soon as I reach Birmingham.â
âOh, you donât have to do that. I plan to pack up my stuff these days and move to Birmingham. But, I was hoping that you could do me a favor.â
âWhat? What do you want her to do for you?â Wayne asked, glaring at him. âOh, Iâll do anything you ask for,â Anna pinched him and smiled at Andrew.
Wayneâs face flushed with embarrassment.
âSo, could you please find me a place to stay in Birmingham for a while? Iâll move out when I find another place.â
âOK, itâs on me! Iâll get you a place to stay.â Anna agreed right away.
Andrew will bring me a lot of money if he works for me! So, I would certainly be glad to find him a house. Anna thought.
âI hope we can have a good time working together,â Anna said as she reached out an arm to shake Andrewâs hand.
Wayne grabbed her hand just as she reached out. He shoved her back on the bed angrily, and added, âLook, your wounds are not healed yet! So donât talk to him anymore, okay?â
Andrew glanced at him with contempt and said, âMachismo is the number one killer of marriages, Miss Gabriel. So, you may want to think twice before you marry him.â
âWhat do you mean?â Wayne asked, looking at him grimly.
âWell, Iâm going home now. Iâll pack my things and try to get back to Birmingham with you guys.â Andrew said.
He left the hospital in style, as if he hadnât heard Wayneâs words.
âHey, Mr. Cooper, hereâs your lunchbox.â
Andrew had already walked along the corridor. He said out loud, âPlease throw it away. Iâll buy a new one when I get back to Birmingham.â
After Andrew had left, Anna continued glancing at the door and smiled joyfully.
Wayne looked at her grimly as if he was pissed off. He asked, âYou are that happy?â
Anna raised an eyebrow and replied, âOh, Wayne, of course Iâm happy! A well-known designer just said he would like to work for me.â
âBut youâve never smiled like that at me before.â
Anna glanced at him and said, âYou? If I smiled at you like that, people would think Iâm a psycho.â
Wayne, who appeared dissatisfied with her response, clenched his teeth and said, âWhen you were lying in the operating room just now, I was putting in a good word for you to him and trying to get him to work for you. But, youâve only talked to him since you woke up, So, why donât you pay attention to me? Anna, donât you have anything to say to me?â
Wayfur undy regjetted it nght after he said it. He frowned for a moment and then tried to leave the room, He would never have said something like this in the past. He stated this, though, because he was enraged. He wondered it he sounded the exted Anna lo comptent him.
