One Clingy, the Other Obsessed
I look through a few bags on the table and quickly turn around.
My breath hitches to a stop when I realize Nathan is standing right in front of me, staring at me with those breathtaking eyes of his.
"Uh, h-hey," I stutter. The distance between my face and his was probably only 3 freaking inches.
I watch a smile slowly appear on his face. "Hey, Minnie Mouse," he says softly.
For some reason, the sudden nervous feeling in my chest disappears, as I lean closer, our noses almost touching.
I let out a quiet laugh as his eyes grew wide.
My lips tugged upward into a smile. "You got pretty eyes," I comment, looking at the specks of blue in his green eyes. I've never really gotten to see them this close, and now that I have, I could probably stare at them everyday.
I'm expecting a response, but all I get is silence from him.
I try to come up with another thing to say, when his mouth finally opens: "You got a really pretty face."
I feel my smile grow wider. "Stop."
He gives me a wink in reply.
"Guys," we hear. I see Janet in the distance, waving her hand full of forks. "I found some."
"Good for you," I laugh.
She's sets them on the table and turns to us. "So, I saw a tent selling huge chocolate bars for only 50 cents each."
My eyes lighten up. "Then let's go."
Janet begins to lead us, and I grab Nathan's hand.
"Wow, you're clingy," he whispers beside me.
"And you're obsessed with me, so I guess we're even," I whisper back, as we follow Janet in front of us.
I feel him pull me closer, causing the smile on my face to grow even wider, if that's possible.
We arrive to the tent, and Janet was right. The chocolate bars are bigger than my face.
Janet quickly turns to us. "I'll pay."
We just nod our heads, as she turns back around and buys 3 bars.
I let out a sigh. "My feet are starting to hurt," I say quietly.
Nathan looks down at me. "You wanna get on my back?"
"Yep," I reply tiredly.
He turns and I climb onto his back. "Thanks," I mumble. I notice people passing by are staring at us, but I don't give a shit right now.
"No problem, Minnie Mouse," I hear.
Janet finally turns back to us. "One for you, one for you, and one for me," she says happily, handing each of us a chocolate bar.
I let out a laugh at her excitement, and that's when she stares at us with curiosity.
I watch a sly smile slowly appear on her. "Are you sure you guys aren't together?"
"Actually, she's my girlfriend," Nathan replies, and I slap the side of his face.
"In your dreams," I scoff.
"I dream about it every night," he tells me. Even though I can't see his face, I could tell there was a smirk plastered on his face.
Strangely, a part of me is hoping that he isn't lying. The thought makes my heart beat faster, but I ignore the feeling. "Shut up and take me to the tent that's selling funnel cake."
"Only for you," I hear him mumble, and he starts walking, as Janet follows behind us.
~
I sit under a tree beside Janet as we eat our corn dogs.
"I probably gained 10 pounds today," I sigh.
Janet laughs loudly. "Oh god, same."
A few girls walk by, blocking our view for a few moments. "Damn that girl looks fine as hell," Janet mutters.
My eyes widen, as I quickly turn to her with surprise. I'm shook.
She turns to me with a sheepish grin. "I'm bi."
I give her a smile. "Oh, that's cool. I don't mind," I tell her honestly.
She lets out a laugh, almost sounding relieved. "You're probably the 11th person I've told since I came out. A few- most of my friends stopped talking to me because of it."
I glance at her as she stares at the grass, feeling pity in my heart. "Well, sucks for them. They stopped talking to one of the most amazing human beings on this earth," I say, in an attempt to make her laugh.
Her lips tug upward into a small smile.
"And, probably the most badass-looking person I know so far," I add.
"You got that right," she laughs, running her fingers through her hair.
Silence then takes over for a while, as we enjoyed the scenery around us.
"He really likes you," Janet says out of nowhere, but I immediately know who she's talking about.
"Stop, he doesn't," I tell her.
"I'm being serious. He really does like you," she says in a serious tone. "I used to look at someone the way he does at you."
Then I hear her let out a chuckle. "I know we only met today, but I feel like I've known you forever," she says.
I smile. "Me too."
In the distance, I see Nathan coming our way. Both of us stand up and meet him halfway.
"You wanna head home?" He asks me.
I check my phone. "Sure. I'm sleepy now anyways."
Then I turn to Janet. "What's your number?"
~
A yawn escapes my lips as we made our way home. I stare at the pink sky above us, as it slowly turns purple.
"Guess what's tomorrow?"
I turn to Nathan, and he's smirking at me. "Uh, Sunday," I reply.
"And it's my birthday," he says.
My eyes widen. "Oh my god, really?"
He nods his head as we continue walking.
I look down at the sidewalk. "You should've told me before so I can buy a gift earlier."
He wraps an arm around my neck, as he pulls me closer to him. "You're the only birthday present I need."
I turn to him in time to see a wink.
I let out a laugh. "Shut up, dumbass."
We finally make it back to our street, where both our houses stare at each other every single day.
I walk to my house, and he walks to his.
"Good night, Minnie Mouse," I hear him shout from his front door.
