Vinny sat at the end of the bed.
He was changed into his pyjamas, but his mind was too alive to sleep.
When they got home, Vinny took Oliver straight upstairs so he could get some rest. It took his soulmate a while to settle down and to drift off, he kept thinking over the events and becoming incredibly guilty for hurting his dad. What if John didn't forgive him for hurting him like that?
What if he's different now that he's a vampire?
Overall, Oliver was extremely thankful that he wasn't now mourning over the death of his dad.
Vinny twiddled his thumbs as he chewed the inside of his lip.
It was almost two in the morning and Oliver was fast asleep. Vinny hoped he would sleep all through the night because he needed it.
He kept thinking about that dream. The person in his dream told him that John wasn't going to die, but at a price. And that price was Oliver.
He wondered if John and his son's relationship will be different now. He hoped that it wouldn't, for Oliver's sake.
Vinny then decided that he wasn't able to sleep right now, so he stood up and walked around to his sleeping soulmate.
He reached down and ran a gentle hand through his soft hair before planting a sweet kiss onto his forehead.
Their limit was now set for two hours as he turned and walked out of the bedroom.
Jed was sleeping down the hall, but probably with one eye open as Vinny walked in the opposite direction.
The halls were dark and quiet. He loved it when it was like this because it's always so full of people during the day, so It's nice to just have it as a home for a few hours.
It didn't take him long until he reached the kitchen.
He was feeling more awake as he pushed the door open.
But to his surprise, his parents were there.
They looked up from where they were sitting to see their son coming into the room.
"Vinny? What're you doing up?" Madison smiled as she pulled out the stool next to her.
"Couldn't sleep" He mumbled before sitting down.
Madison brought a hand up and rubbed his back.
"Here," Duke said before pouring him a warm drink.
"Thanks," He said whilst wrapping his fingers around the mug. "I'm guessing you're both the same?"
"Yes," Duke said as he looked at his wife. They were just talking about everything and getting their feelings out in the open.
"How're you doing?" Madison asked. They've realised that throughout all of this, Vinny has been the rock of the family and nobody has bothered to ask how he was feeling.
"Okay," He said before taking a sip of his drink.
Duke watched him, but he wanted to dig deeper.
"But you're always okay. You can't be fine all the time Vinny"
His parents know that Vinny buries all of his problems and his emotions away and that's why he is so blank and so blunt all the time. They think that because he pushed them so deep down, they're too far for him to reach.
Vinny stared out the window for a moment. He hates opening up to people, even if it is only to his parents.
"I'm alright," He said before looking back at his dad.
"Son it's okay. You're not burdening us with your issues if you have any. We're your parents, we want to know what's going on in that head of yours" Madison smiled before linking arms with him.
She also loved how Vinny always let her do that.
Vinny inspected her face as he thought.
"I'll be happy when Oliver's happy," He said before bringing his gaze back to his hands.
"So, you're not happy at the minute?" Duke asked softly. He was treading around this carefully if he was to get his son to open up.
"It's just, I can't physically feel good if Oliver's struggling," He said.
"Yes, it's hard for normal strong bonded people to cope with one partner being a bit upset but with you two, it must be awful"
They almost forgot about the boys unique bond.
"Right now, I can feel his guilt and his sadness. I hate it" He mumbled.
They could see how much Vinny wanted to make his soulmate better.
"That must be strange, feeling each other's emotions," Madison said as she watched her son take another sip of his drink.
"It is," Vinny answered as he looked up. "It's unusual when we both feel the same thing because it feels twice as strong"
"Wait so tell me, you can feel Oliver's emotions even when he's sleeping?" Duke asked.
"Yes," Vinny said, he liked talking about the bond.
"Interesting," Duke nodded. He wanted to try and change the subject to a more positive one so they can go to bed feeling happier.
"Son, can I ask you something completely irrelevant?" Madison then asked, knowing that Duke was steering the conversation into a more joyous one.
Vinny looked at her with intrigued eyes.
"Go on" He sighed. He knew she would ask it even if he said no.
"Do you still find girls sexually attractive?"
Vinny knew it was only a matter of time before these questions were thrown out there.
He sighed and tapped his thumb against the cup.
"No," He said truthfully but like always, that realisation made his heart beat faster.
"Just men?" She asked.
Vinny shifted uncomfortably in his chair. He hasn't yet admitted this out loud and he knew it would then become real if he did.
"Just Oliver," He said as he glanced at his dad who sat back and let Madison attack him with questions. He was also interested on what his son had to say.
"But if you looked at other men in the same way you look at Oliver, would you find them attractive too?" She knew she was pushing it, judging by her son's pink cheeks.
Vinny chewed the inside of his lip as he thought about it.
"Yes," He said truthfully, knowing he had nothing to lose. But it was unusual to let his mind really wander that area because he hasn't allowed himself to, until now.
"So, is it safe to say that you're gay?" She asked.
Vinny looked at her whilst his mind felt a little numb, he hated labels but if he was to have one, this would be it.
"Yes," He said once more before looking down to his hands. He never thought he would be admitting that to his parents. Well, two weeks ago he never thought he would be admitting that at all.
Madison looked at her husband who shared the same proud expression.
"What do you find attractive in a guy?" Duke then asked.
Vinny rolled his eyes and sat back.
"Really?" He questioned blankly. Secretly, he felt happy that he could speak like this with his parents and know they are completely supportive. But it didn't stop the questions from being painfully embarrassing.
"Yes, I'm just interested that's all," He said with a smile.
"Well, what attracts you to Oliver? Don't be afraid to get lovey-dovey now, we want to know" Madison chuckled.
Vinny shook his head and looked out the window.
"I'm so glad he's not here right now" He muttered.
"Well come on, tell us"
Vinny then decided that he would probably regret being so open and truthful, but talking about his soulmate that way will warmth his heart and maybe even help Oliver to dream happy things.
"Fine" He mumbled before sitting forwards. "I'm attracted to Oliver in a lot of different ways. Of course, his body is one, but I like a lot of little things that he does and the little qualities he has"
He stopped to think for a moment.
"I like his scent and the way he gives me strong hugs. I like his eyes and the small dimples that form when he smiles. I like that I can run a hand through his hair and wrap my arms around his chest without it being awkward because he's not a girl. And I really love his laugh"
Madison had a hand pressed against her heart, she loved how sweet that was.
But before she could react further, a voice came from the doorway.
"You're so cute," It said tiredly, making Vinny and Madison turn. Duke was already facing the door so he spotted Oliver when he entered.
Vinny sighed with embarrassment. Of course, the one time he didn't want Oliver to listen and he was standing behind him.
He then masked his face with his hands as Oliver walked over.
He smiled and clamped his fingers around Vinny's shoulders.
"You made yourself blush this time," He said before wrapping his arms gently around his neck and leaning his chest against his back.
He then kissed Vinny's warm temple, making him take his hands down from his face and turn to give Oliver a kiss back.
"Did you hear it all?" He asked.
"I walked in when you said I'm so glad he's not here right now" Oliver smiled.
"Of course," Vinny sighed. What are the odds?
"But thank's, I didn't know you were so gooey and so fluffy with your emotions-"
Vinny put a hand over Oliver's mouth before pulling him onto his lap.
"No more," He said as Oliver did the classic action and licked Vinny's hand. He pulled it away but rubbed it on Oliver's t-shirt.
Everyone felt glad that Oliver was now back to his normal self.
"How did you find the kitchen?" Vinny asked, knowing he would probably still get lost if he was on his own.
"Jed," He said before rubbing his eyes. "Does he even know what sleep is?"
They all shared a chuckle and it felt good to be like this after something so traumatic.
Vinny then wrapped his arms around Oliver's waist, pulling his back against his chest.
Oliver wrapped his arm around Vinny's shoulders and watched him for a moment.
"Oliver, can I ask you a question?" Madison asked. She's in that type of mood.
"Sure," Oliver said with a tired yawn.
"Were you into men before you connected the bond with Vinny?"
Oliver then knew his soulmate had been suffering through questions like this.
"Yeah," He said with a smile.
"Ah okay. That's why you dealt with falling in love with a male so easily" She smiled back.
Vinny's parents did wonder about things like that.
"Yep," Oliver said as he looked back to Vinny.
They both felt the warmth hit their hearts as Vinny planted a sweet kiss on Oliver's neck.
"You both look tired, do you think you'll be able to get some sleep now?" Duke asked.
"Yes," They said in unison. "We will"
Madison chuckled at that whilst standing up. She yawned and watched her husband walk around the worktop.
"Come on then," She said softly before heading to the door.
Everyone was now ready for bed, even Jed looked a little tired, for once.
