Belle intended for Rafael to hide Joelleâs pregnancy from her and then have Liza give birth to it. How could Rafael agree to that?
âMom, are you asking me to deceive Joelle?â
Belleâs eyes filled with tears of frustration. âSo, are you willing to see your mother suffer?â
âThatâs not what I meant.â
Suddenly, Belle straightened up and knelt before Rafael.
Liza and Rafael exclaimed simultaneously, âMom!â Belle refused Rafaelâs help to stand, yet she clutched his wrist tightly.
âRafael, the child in your sisterâs womb is yours and belongs to our Romero family! If you force this, your sister might never be able to have children again. Besides, your father has just passed away, and now you want to end another Romero life. Is this how you honor our family?â
Rafael frowned. âSo, youâre saying my sister must keep the baby? Mom, youâve always said not to keep secrets from those we love. Joelle and I are a couple now. How can I lie to her?â
Belle, holding back tears, said firmly, âThen Iâll keep kneeling here.â
âMom!â
How could Rafael stand to see his mother kneeling before him? Torn and conflicted, Rafael eventually gave in.
Belle finally agreed she would arrange for Liza to marry someone else and ensure that no one discovered the childâs connection to Rafael.
But Rafael was still uneasy. He now harbored a secret from Joelleâa secret that he could never disclose. When Rafael returned home, Joelle approached him and asked, âIs it all settled?â
âYes.â Rafael managed a strained smile. âThe pregnancy has been terminated.â
Joelle sighed in relief, yet she felt an underlying guilt for the termination of the pregnancy.

Rafael held her back and said, âNo, you donât need to go.â Joelle sensed his exhaustion.
He smiled weakly at Joelle. âFrom now on, nothing will ever come between us.â
Joelle was slightly taken aback but found herself enveloped in his embrace.
âJoelle, weâll always be together. Weâre happy together. I never want to be apart from you. I like you so much. I really do.â
His behavior was unusually intense. Joelle felt a twinge of fear.
In the days that followed, she increasingly sensed that something was off. Her intuition told her something significant had happened on the day of Lizaâs supposed abortion.
From that day, Rafael seemed constantly distracted. Joelle sought advice from Shawn, who bluntly suggested, âIf you canât stay with him, then consider divorce.â Joelle didnât think things were that severe.
She then consulted with Katherine.
Katherine speculated and said, âRafael probably feels guilty seeing how Liza was after the abortion.â
Having almost undergone an abortion herself, Joelle was familiar with the potential health repercussions.
Katherine mentioned that as a doctor, Rafael would naturally feel responsible, even though he rejected the child.
Learning that Liza was still in the hospital, Joelle bought some nutritional supplements and visited her. As she approached the hospital room, she overheard a conversation between Belle and Liza.
âMom, I canât believe Rafael agreed to let me have this baby!â
âAs Iâve always said, Rafael isnât heartless. The baby is his, while Joelleâs two children arenât. No matter how much he cares for them, isnât he essentially raising someone elseâs kids? Heâs not foolish. He knows what is truly important.â
âYes!â
Belle then gave Liza some medicine, after which Liza became sullen again.
âI just donât know when Rafael will divorce Joelle. I can wait, but the baby canât.â
âBe patient. Now that Shawn has lent us ten billion, Rafael is bound to take their perspective seriously.â
Liza asked curiously, âMom, it makes sense for Shawn to lend us money, but why did Adrian lend us money too? We donât have any connection with him.â
Belle paused thoughtfully before responding decisively, âIt has to be because of Joelle! She must be involved with him somehow!â
Just as she finished, Joelle pushed the door open. Startled, Belle and Liza turned pale, unsure what to say or where to look.
âJoelle, when did you get here?â
âJust a moment ago,â Joelle replied, smiling. She observed Liza and commented, âLiza seems well. I brought some supplements, but it looks like you donât need them now.â
Instinctively, Liza placed her hands over her stomach. âJoelle, donât worry too much. My mother and I were adamant about keeping the baby. The doctor said that this might be my only chance to have a child in my life.â
Joelle turned to Belle and said, âI havenât been in touch with Adrian for a long time. He contributed the funds simply because my brother couldnât cover the other ten billion. Who else but Adrian could afford it? Moreover, I didnât reach out to him. He reached out to my brother.â
Awkward, Belle replied, âYes, of course. We know youâre not that type of person.â
