Eudora had a terrible sleep. She felt that she was grabbed by a pair of large hands, making her unable to move.
Originally, she had wanted to catch up on her sleep in the morning, but she was woken up by the noise outside.
âWhat should we do? Young Master Eddison hasnât eaten for an entire day!â
âWhat are Mr. and Mrs. Granger thinking? Are they going to watch Eddison being starved to death?â
âHush, donât let Mrs. Granger hear you!â
Eudora was agitated instantly. She hastily dashed out of her room.
The two housekeepers outside her room, who were chatting just then, shut their mouths at once while Eudora headed straight for Eddisonâs room.
The door of his room was locked, and Cindy stood there with a tray of breakfast in her hands.
âYoung Master Eddison, please have your breakfast.â
Eudora directly took over the tray from Cindyâs hands, saying, âLet me do it!â
Cindy was staggered as she tried to cover up, âMadam, itâs not what you think. Itâs justâ¦â
âDonât lie to me. I know everything. He hasnât eaten anything since yesterday, right?â
Cindy nodded and said, âDonât worry, Madam. Young Master Eddison has always been in fine fettle and he wonât be worn down that easily.â
Discomposure was written all over Cindyâs face despite her comforting words to Eudora.
Saying no more, Eudora knocked on the door.
âSugar Bun, itâs me! Why did you lock the door? How are you going to have your breakfast?â
It was so quiet in the room, as if there was no one inside.
Eudora became anxious. She was really worried that something might have happened.
âSugar Bun, did you hear me? Itâs your favorite breakfast. Are you sure you donât want to come out and eat?â
Cindy followed her lead and shouted, âYoung Master Eddison, Madam has a weak constitution. Please at least speak up.â
Only then did Eddison respond due to his worry for Eudora.
âI donât want to eat anything!â
Eudora finally let out a sigh of relief. However, she became flustered again soon after realizing that his voice had a hint of weariness.
âThen, please open the door and let me have a look at you!â
âNo! I donât want to go out. If I go out, arenât I going to marry someone I donât like? I donât want to accept it! Mom, just leave me alone!â
Eudora sighed. He was quite persistent. As his mother who knew him well, she was aware that he would not open the door if they insisted on forcing him to marry Rachel.
Eudora took a deep breath, and turned to look at Cindy.
âWhere is Amos?â
âMr. Granger went to the company early in the morning. I heard that there will be an important meeting today. He should be very busy.â
Eudora frowned as she said, âIâll go and take a look!â
âMadam!â
Cindy was nervous. Ever since Eudora had left Valiant East in the past, she hadnât been to the company for many years.
It was not because she couldnât go there, but because she was reluctant to go, and Amos would not force her to do so either.
Since she was in poor health most of the time, she seldom went out.
Cindy said, âIâll go with you!â
âNo, Iâll leave Eddison to you. I can go by myself.â
âBut Madamâ¦â
âIâm not that delicate. What are you worried about?â
After that, Eudora went to change her clothes and drove the car out.
â¦
To Eudoraâs stupefaction, Valiant East looked even more magnificent than before.
The building had been refurbished a few years ago under Amosâs instructions, and there was a big signboard being hung on it at the moment, showing the companyâs name and slogan.
Eudora walked straight into the building. The receptionist was enthusiastically welcoming the guests. However, the moment she saw Eudora, she became excited, and a bright smile appeared on her face.
âMrs. Granger, itâs my pleasure to meet you here!â
Eudora was a little amazed. She had already left for so long, and most of the staff members were newly recruited as well. She wondered why they recognized her.
The receptionist pointed at the electronic screen in the lobby, as if to solve her confusion. Photos of the founders and those who had made outstanding contributions to the company were shown on the screen.
Eudora was on the list too.
Eudora nodded and said, âI want to see Chairman Granger.â
âOkay!â replied the receptionist. She did not stop her at all, instead directly taking her to Amosâ office.
âMrs. Granger, what would you like to drink? Iâll prepare it for you!â
âNo need, Iâm just fine. I wonât keep you any longer.â
Eudora waved her hand at the receptionist to end the conversation. Then, she put down her handbag, and looked around the office.
When the accident had happened there back in the day, she had really thought that she would lose Amos forever. Fortunately, he had come back at last.
â¦
In fact, Amos was not attending any important meeting at all. In order to hide the information about Eudoraâs illness from her, he had asked all the doctors to stay in the company.
Just then, several doctors had conducted a meeting with him. They all suggested that Eudora should receive the appropriate treatment as soon as possible. In addition, it was advised that she should not get agitated so that her mental health would be in a good state.
Amos was perturbed about her condition. When he came out of the meeting room, Clint notified him of Eudoraâs presence in a low voice.
âMr. Granger, Mrs. Granger is here!â
Amos wasnât surprised to hear that, as if he had already known of her arrival. He walked straight towards his office.
After a few steps, he stopped and said something to Clint. Clint looked puzzled, but he still nodded.
Amos pushed open the office door and saw Eudora standing there, looking at his desk.
He walked over and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.
âWhy are you here? Is it because Eddison hasnât had his meal yet?â
Eudora turned around and asked, âSo, you are aware of that?â
âHow could I not know that? Heâs my son after all. Clearly, he wants to antagonize me.â
Eudora was mystified. She had to ask, âDidnât we agree to respect their rights? Why are you doing this out of the blue?â
Amos furrowed his brows as he replied, âItâs nothing! Donât think too much into things. You have to believe me. Iâm doing it for his own good.â
âPerhaps the path he chooses will be full of challenges, and he might be hurt badly, but itâs his own life. We canât make every choice for him. All birds find shelter during a rain, but an eagle avoids the rain by flying above the clouds. Nonetheless, itâs not its innate talent to do that. It must be given chances to learn how to fly. The same goes for our children. If we donât give them the opportunities to learn, how can they face the challenges by themselves in the future?â
She thought that she and Amos had always been quite compatible with each other when it came to educating their children.
As far as she remembered, he would support her no matter what.
However, at the moment, Amos shook his head and disagreed with her.
âPerhaps your theory worked in the past, but itâs different this time. We already have a shortcut, and yet weâll let him go through the storm? Wouldnât it be better if we minimized the sufferings he would have to go through? I donât agree with your thinking!â
Eudora knitted her brows as she asked him, âDo you really think so?â
She suddenly felt that she no longer understood Amos anymore.
âAre you hiding something from me? If you have any difficulties, you can tell me frankly. Arenât we husband and wife?â
Amos pursed his lips before saying, âNo! I still have a meeting. Iâll ask someone to send you back first.â
âI wonât go back!â Eudora was beginning to feel slightly agitated.
âEddison hasnât eaten for an entire day, and he refuses to see anyone. You know him well. Things are going to end terribly if theyâre left unresolved. Weâre his parents. If you must insist on doing this, Iâll do the same in my stance. I want him to live his own life!â
âEudora!â Amos was both mentally and physically exhausted.
âIf you want things to go on this way, then I wonât give in either!â
