Eudora and Amos had been together for roughly twenty years. It was the first time he said that he wouldnât give in to her!
His words distressed Eudora.
She pouted and said, âWell, weâll see!â
After that, she turned around, took her handbag, and went out.
Amos stopped her, âAre you going back to release Eddison?â
He was indeed her husband, able to see through her intentions easily, Eudora pursed her lips while Amos continued to speak.
âYou wonât be able to find him, since Iâve already instructed someone to take him away.â
Eudora looked at him incredulously and said, âAmos, what on earth are you trying to do?! Why do you have to do this?â
She was about to blow her top, and it concerned Amos.
âIâm doing this for his own good. You can rest assured that I will take good care of him.â
In his heart, he was hoping that Eudora would not be agitated by the matter.
Of course, Eudora failed to remain unfazed. âHe is our child. Donât you remember how much pain he endured when he was a child?â said Eudora.
âI do.â
However, how could he forget that he had almost lost Eudora when she gave birth to Eddison? Amos used to hate him for it but at the moment, he loved him so much.
He hated Eddison because of her and he loved him because of her too.
âThen, why are you behaving like this?â
Amos felt that he couldnât go on anymore because he might let the cat out of the bag anytime.
âEudora⦠Donât worry, okay? I promise I will never hurt our child!â
âIf you donât want me to be worried, then just let him out!â
âI canât!â
Amos pursed his lips.
Eudora suddenly asked, âIs this because of me? Youâve been telling me to take my medicine on time recently. Are there any changes in my illness? Is that why youâre so anxious to arrange a marriage for him?â
Amos was nonplussed as he replied, âNo!â
âDonât lie to me! If it isnât because of that, then why have you changed so much?â
After getting married for so many years, they knew each other very well. He could see through her thoughts at once, and she could naturally do the same too.
âIt must be because of me. Did you arrange all this because Iâm not willing to go to the sanitarium? Do you want me to go there after our children have settled down?â
âNo, itâs not because of that!â
âLook into my eyes, and say that again!â
Clint, who was standing outside the door, could not wait any longer.
Just then, Amos had spoken to him in the corridor, telling him to stand by and go in to help him when it was necessary.
Amos knew Eudora too well. He knew that she would never leave if she didnât get the answer she wanted.
Sure enough, the situation got out of control.
Clint took a deep breath, pushed open the door and went in.
âMr. Granger, bad news! Just now, the finance manager reported that if we donât find a way to solve our companyâs financial problem, it will be too late to-â
He intentionally pretended that he was unaware of Eudoraâs presence. Then, he paused in the middle of his sentence upon noticing Eudora.
âMadam!â
Eudora looked at him suspiciously as she asked, âIs there something wrong with our company?â
Amos stayed silent whereas Clint nodded.
âYes, Mr. Granger has been deeply troubled by this matter. Madam, please donât blame him! He just wants to protect the Holt Familyâs assets.â
Eudora gazed at Amos in shock. âIs that why you want them to get married?â she asked.
Clint added, âMoreover, Miss Gellert is indeed a good match for Young Master Eddison.â
Eudora smiled bitterly as she could only say, âAll right, I understand it now.â
After that, she stood up and left.
Clint followed her and said, âMadam, Iâll see you out!â
Amos stood by the window and let out a sigh of relief as he watched the two of them leave.
He could accept everything but Eudora blaming herself.
â¦
Clint escorted Eudora all the way to the car, and said to the chauffeur, âYou must ensure that Mrs. Granger is safely sent home, okay?â
The driver nodded and went over to start the car.
Eudora was staring at Clint, and it made him feel uncomfortable.
âMadam, if youâll excuse me, Iâll get back to my work.â
Eudora pursed her lips and asked coldly, âAre you still keeping things from me?â
Clint was staggered as he said, âMadam, Iâm sorry. We shouldnât have kept the companyâs problems from you. Itâs just that Mr. Granger is perturbed about you.â
âYouâre lying! There isnât a financial problem, is there?â
Clint was dumbfounded.
He had thought Eudora had believed his words just then. He wondered if she was just fooling him into telling the truth at the moment. Therefore, he was uncertain whether he should reveal himself or keep playing dumb.
âMadam, I-â
âThink twice before you speak, or Iâll badmouth you in front of Amos later when I get back!â
Clint was shocked.
He was put into an awkward position and he had no idea whose side he should be on!
âDonât worry. Just tell me the truth. The two of us will be the only ones who know about it.â
Clint asked softly, âReally?â
âOf course!â
Clint was thinking that it might be too exhausting for Amos to carry all the burden on his back. Hence, he decided to tell Eudora about the whole story.
âActually, youâre right! Mr. Granger did all that not because of the companyâs problem, but because of your illness.â
Eudora smiled and said, âHow can I not know my own body? What did the doctor say? Am I dying?â
Clint replied, âNo! Mr. Granger wonât let anything happen to you!â
Eudora frowned and didnât say anything.
Meanwhile, Clint hurriedly explained, âThe doctor only said that you need to be slowly nursed back to health. The most important key is that you have to stay away from the bustling city. Obviously, you are worried about Young Master Eddison and Miss Naomi. Thatâs why President Granger wants Young Master Eddison to get married as soon as possible. You can rest assured that President Granger isnât doing this on impulse. He ordered me to investigate Miss Gellert thoroughly. She is indeed a remarkably cultivated and educated girl. She will be a good match with Young Master Eddison.â
Eudora blinked her eyes and murmured, âWhy canât he tell me about that?â
Clint still wanted to clarify some other things, but Eudora had already walked towards the car.
Before she left, she told him, âDonât tell him that Iâm aware of this!â
Clint was relieved, but at the same time, he felt sorry for Amos and Eudora. To him, they really deserved better since they loved each other so much.
Unfortunately, the challenges in their lives never ceased.
â¦
As Amos had said, there wasnât a trace of Eddison when Eudora returned home.
Cindy was afraid that she would be downcast, thus she explained to her in a hurry.
âMadam, donât worry about Young Master Eddison. He ate the food before he left.â
Eudora nodded and took the initiative to ask about her medicine.
âCould you help me get my medicine? I havenât taken it today, have I?â
Cindy was surprised as she said, âMadam, itâs rare for you to bring this up yourself. Mr. Granger always has to remind and coax you into taking the medicine.â
Only then did Eudora come to a realization. âIs that how I behave every day?â she asked.
âYes, it is. Luckily, Mr. Granger is there for you all the time. To be honest, heâs the best husband Iâve ever seen, much better than mine too.â
Eudora reflected on her marriage. Amos was the best husband in the world, but she was not the best wife.
Thinking about that, she gave a rueful smile, and then took her medicine.
âCindy, letâs go out!â
