Chapter 16: Chapter 14 - Adrien

Should He Matter? (BXB)Words: 6347

Adrien Walker

I feel someone shaking me.

Slowly I open my eyes, what the fucking is going on?

Trevor?

"It's 7, get up."

"Okay..." I say sitting up, Trevor walks towards the kitchen before I can say anything else.

Something next to me moves.

Ethan?

Fuck I need to wake up.

Trevor and I fixed things a bit yesterday. We're on talking terms now, I think?

Ethan stayed over.

I thought we were going to stay up.

When did we fall asleep?

I rub my eyes a bit before turning to wake Ethan up, but he's already staring at me.

"What day is it?" I ask.

I honestly can't remember if it's Thursday or Friday.

"Friday."

"Fuck, it's been a long week."

Ethan nods in response.

"We have to leave early this morning, need to either pick Luke up or drop Trevor off before heading to school. So go get ready and I'll sort breakfast out."

"Okay," Ethan says getting up and heading out of the room.

Groaning I stand up too, fuck my back and neck hurt.

As I walk to the kitchen it occurs to me that my alarm didn't go off. Or did I sleep through it?

Wait where's my phone?

I start patting down my pockets.

Is it in my bag?

I don't remember putting it in there.

Where did it go?

Did I leave it at the park?

Fuck sake.

"If you're looking for your phone it's in your room on charge," Trevor says looking up from his phone. He's sitting at the table with a packet of mixed fruit and nuts in front of him.

Oh, thank fuck.

"Thank you."

"I turned off your alarms too."

"Oh. Did you sleep last night?" I ask walking over to the fridge.

"No."

"Are you tired? You can stay here and sleep. I'll take Luke to and from school today," I say looking over at him, he really does seem exhausted.

Is he sleeping at all?

"I'm fine."

Should I push or just leave it?

"Okay, what do you want for breakfast?" I ask grabbing milk and orange juice.

"I'm alright."

"Sure you don't want some cereal? Or toast?" I ask staring at his barely touched packet of mixed fruits and nuts.

"I'm not hungry."

He's not sleeping or eating?

I scribble down eggs, bread, yams, plantains, beef, plum tomatoes, beef stock, bell peppers, onions, scotch bonnet peppers, garlic, tomato paste, and fresh parsley on the shopping list.

I should have everything else.

"You're out of toothbrushes too."

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel, and soap.

Maya has a set list of stuff she buys every 2/4 weeks, if I need anything else I just write it on the list and she looks at it every other Friday when she comes over to clean.

I look over at the clock and see that it's already 20 past 7.

Ethan walks into the kitchen just as I'm pouring myself a bowl of cereal.

"Cheerios or frosted flakes?" I ask.

Ethan's silent.

Trevor looks at me, and then back at Ethan, then again at me.

Am I missing something?

"He's allergic to milk, you idiot."

What?

"Since when?"

Trevor glares at me, "Since birth."

"Oh..."

"Sorry," Ethan says quietly looking uncomfortable.

"No need to apologise," Trevor replies, "There are some unfrosted Strawberry pop tarts in the cupboard," He adds getting up, "Have you had them before?"

Ethan shakes his head, "No," He looks like he wants to stop Trevor, but doesn't say anything.

"Wait, how did you know he was allergic to milk?"

"That camping trip we went on, Ethan and I were in the same group with Mr Partnik."

"You remember that?" Ethan asks surprised.

So am I. That trip was 5 years ago, how does he still remember?

"Yeah be glad you couldn't eat the watery packet shit they gave us. But those weird bars were probably just as bad," Trevor says grabbing a plate.

We watch as he toasts one, microwaves one and puts a raw one on the plate.

The raw toast makes sense now.

Damn, I am slow.

Wait...

"Doesn't bread have milk in it though?"

Trevor gives me a look that screams just how fucking dumb are you?

"No, Adrien. Bread doesn't have milk in it," Trevor says slowly as if explaining something to a child.

Well then.

Was pretty sure bread had milk in it.

Guess not.

He doesn't bother waiting for a response before turning to Ethan, "Okay, Luke says these taste like shit but you can decide for yourself."

"You didn't have to go through so much effort," Ethan says quietly, looking down.

"Dude, it took me like max 3 minutes. And it's best for you to decide which one you prefer. Adrien go get ready, we need to leave in 10."

"Aye aye captain," I say walking out of the kitchen, smiling.

It feels good to have things feel a bit more stable.

I get ready as quickly as possible, it's a good job I showered last night.

I walk back into the kitchen to see them both nibbling on pop-tarts. Huh, Ethan got Trevor to eat.

"Yeah Luke's right, these pop tarts taste like ass. It doesn't matter what you do to them, they just taste bad," Trevor says making a face at the plate, "You really don't need to finish them."

"I don't mind the warm ones," Ethan says shrugging.

Trevor looks up at me, "Good you're ready, I packed you both lunch. Ethan, you good to leave now?"

He packed Ethan lunch too? I do love Trevor.

Ethan nods looking back at Trevor, "Yeah."

Trevor puts the dishes in the sink before passing me my container.

"I made do with what you had."

"Thank you, I appreciate it," I say smiling at him.

Trevor really is one of the most caring people I know. Always looking after everyone but himself.

"So are we picking Luke up or dropping you off?" I ask as we leave the kitchen.

"You can just drop me off, saves you having to drop us off after basketball," Trevor replies stepping out of the house.

"I don't mind. Will give me an excuse to hang out with Luke after," I say getting into the car.

Ethan gets in the back, so Trevor sits in the front.

Trevor's quiet as we set off.

"Luke would like that," Trevor replies softly.

Am I over stepping?

Is it too soon to just go back to hanging out like we used to?

"I mean, I don't have too. Sorry I didn't ask if you guys had plans."

"No, it's not that. I haven't been over to his in a while, so I'm sure he'd like you being over."

"Oh. What about when Ma's at work? Does he go over to yours?" I ask.

Trevor just shakes his head and looks out the window.

No?

But Luke hates being on his own.

He doesn't do well alone.

I just assumed Trevor and Luke had been hanging out.

Is that why he seemed surprised Trevor waited for him after tryouts?

There really is a lot I don't know.

Another filler chapter, but needed a calm domestic chapter to balance things out.
