Wendella quickened her pace and left without looking back.
Emeraldâs eyes were wide with shock as she exclaimed, âThat was amazing, Ms. Garland! Did you see how mad Ms. Sainz was? Her face was as red as an apple!â
âHmph! Thatâs what she gets for running her mouth!â
Sheâs not the only one who has some tricks up her sleeve!
Emerald nodded and shifted her gaze toward Raynaâs tummy.
âYou said you and Mr. Faymon were together. Is that true, Ms. Garland? Does this child belong toââ
Rayna secretly clenched her fists while maintaining a neutral expression. âThat was a lie. I only said that to anger Wendella. Mr.
Faymon and I never dated, and the babies arenât his either.â
âMr. Hamiltonâs, then?â
Rayna fell silent for a few seconds before nodding in response.
âSo thatâs why Mr. Hamilton is so worried about you! It all makes sense now! I saw you and Mr. Faymon being really close to each other back then. You even brought him lunch from time to time. I almost believed the rumors about you two being a couple!â
The look in Raynaâs eyes turned gloomy for a split second before she let out a faint chuckle. âPeople will spread rumors about anyone who gets close to Mr. Faymon. I remember people talking about Mr. Faymon and Mr. Tylinski being a couple once!â
âOh, thatâs right! I heard that one too! I actually thought Mr. Faymon was bisexual!â
Just like that, Rayna managed to change the topic of the conversation.
As Emerald was extremely passionate about gossiping, she kept rambling on and on.
Rayna would respond every now and then, but her gaze remained fixated on the cell door. An unpleasant feeling formed in her heart as she recalled what Wendella had said earlier.
Are they going to get married?
Still infuriated by Raynaâs taunts, Wendella left the police station with her face scrunched up.
She was about to hail a passing taxi when a young woman walked up to her.
âMs. Wendella Sainz?â
Wendella frowned slightly when she turned around and looked at the woman. âArenât you from Faymon Groupâsââ
âYes, Iâm from Faymon Groupâs Department of Regulators. My name is Stella Zink. Are you free, Ms. Sainz? Thereâs something Iâd like to discuss with you.â
Noticing that Wendella was in a bad mood, Stella added, âItâs about Rayna.â
âThen go talk to her yourself!â Wendella snapped at her impatiently.
âMs. Sainz, are you aware that Rayna is pregnant?â Stella pressed on while blocking her path.
Ten minutes later, the two of them made their way to a nearby café.
âWhat did you mean by that?â Wendella asked the moment they sat down at the table.
Stella simply stared at her without saying a word. After taking a few seconds to connect the dots, Wendella was able to figure it out.
âIf you have an issue with her, then youâll have to settle it yourself. Iâm not going to hurt innocent babies,â she said with a frown while leaning against her chair.
Stella retrieved a folder from her handbag and placed it in front of Wendella. âTake a look at this, Ms. Sainz.â
âWhat is this?â Wendella asked as she opened the folder and glanced through the document. Upon realizing that it was a pregnancy test report, she slammed the document angrily on the table and exclaimed in displeasure, âSo what if sheâs pregnant with triplets? Do you expect me to congratulate her or something?â
âArenât you curious who the father is?â
âWhat are you trying to say?â
Stella turned the document over and pulled up an itinerary on her phone. âThis is Mr. Faymonâs personal itinerary. You wonât find it in the companyâs records.â
As Wendella read through the itinerary, she saw that Curtis had been to Jetroina a few days before Christmas.
She then glanced at Raynaâs pregnancy test report and saw the numbers under the gestational age section.
Her face clouded over when she saw that the numbers matched the date of Curtisâ trip.
âThey spent Christmas together, and Rayna got pregnant around the same time,â Stella said casually after observing her expression.
Stella used to think that Jefferson was the father of Raynaâs babies.
It wasnât until she tailed Rayna to the hospital and bribed the doctor to obtain the pregnancy test report that she realized something was amiss. However, she didnât report her findings to her backer.
Stella then went through Gabrielâs computer while he was away and found Curtisâ personal itinerary. After going through it, she saw that Curtis had headed over to Jetroina a few days before Christmas. Rayna, too, had gone to Jetroina around the same time.
It was as she had expected. Curtis was the father of Raynaâs babies.
Wendella closed the folder. âSo what?â
She had gone back to being calm and composed in just ten seconds, much to Stellaâs surprise.
Thinking her plan had failed, Stella said, âSheâs pregnant with Mr. Faymonâs children, Ms. Sainz. What do you think will happen to your reputation if word gets out about this?â
Wendella leaned back against her chair. âIf Curtis really cared about her, he wouldâve found out about this long ago. He knows about this. He just doesnât want to take responsibility, thatâs all.â
âWhat if Rayna decides to tell Mr. Faymon that someone else is the father?â Noticing the frown on Wendellaâs face, Stella continued, âIt seems you still donât know Mr. Faymon well enough, Ms. Sainz. He always tries to keep the woman he truly loves hidden from the press. He would never publicly announce his relationship like this. He has been in and out of his relationship with Rayna. He may claim he doesnât have feelings for Rayna, but you and I both know thatâs not true. As a fellow woman, Iâm telling you all this because I genuinely feel bad for you. Iâm worried that Mr. Faymon might be dating you just to spite Rayna.â
âThat woman is unworthy of being compared to me!â
âIâm afraid Mr. Faymon is the one who decides that,â Stella said with a faint smile.
Having achieved her goal, Stella decided it was time for her to go.
âDonât underestimate Rayna, Ms. Sainz. Your impressive family background is the only advantage you have over her,â she whispered in Wendellaâs ear before leaving.
Wendella was still sitting there at the table and staring at the document long after Stella left.
It was soon time for Raynaâs trial, and yet, she hadnât received her phone call.
She was fully prepared to face the judge in the courtroom when the police officer opened her cell door.
To her surprise, however, the police officer said, âVivi has withdrawn the lawsuit. Youâre free to go.â
Rayna was so shocked that she thought she had misheard him. âWhat? She withdrew the lawsuit? Are you sure?â
âYes, Iâm sure! Of course, I donât mind keeping you locked up in here if you prefer it!â the police officer replied impatiently.
Although annoyed with his attitude, Rayna forced herself to bear with it as she needed to get out of there.
After leaving the police station, she had Ella come over to bail Emerald out as well.
Emerald was locked up for driving under the influence of alcohol. All they had to do was pay a fine and sign her bail documents to get her out of there.
âMs. Garland, do you want to go home and get some rest?â Ella asked when they stepped out of the police station.
âIâm fine. Weâll go straight to the office instead. Thereâs a lot of work that I need to take care of.â Rayna then turned to Emerald.
âShall I have my assistant send you home?â
Emerald politely declined her offer, âYou two can go on ahead. Iâll just hail a taxi myself.â
âAll right. Stay safe out there. Thank you very much for looking after me in there. Iâll be sure to treat you to a meal once this is all over,â Rayna said.
