I was currently sleeping until I heard the loud ring from my phone. I groaned as I shifted to the side of my bed and grabbed my phone off the nightstand. I picked up not knowing who it was.

"Hello?" I said in a low voice.

"Daisy, get up, come to the woods, now." Scott said urgently.

"What's going on?" I asked now fully awake.

"Bretts missing." Scott said and that's the only thing I needed to hear before getting up.

"Okay, i'll be there in a sec." I said as I hung up.

I got in some jeans and left my pj's shirt on, I rushed towards the woods until I finally saw, Liam, Malia, Lori and Scott.

"Here." Liam said as he found a arrow that's stuck on the tree. He pointed at the ground and saw Brett's phone.

Lori got down and picked up the phone.

"I think he set a trap." Liam said.

"He's fighting back." Scott said.

"And now we know he's alive." Malia said as she un crossed her arms from her chest.

Lori walked over to the tree and pulled out the arrow, it had blood.

"But he's still hurt. We need to find him, he needs to know we're here." Lori said as she touched the blood from the arrow.

"You want the hunter to know where here too?" Malia said .

"He's new, we can take him." I said earning a glare from Scott.

"What if Brett howls back? He'll lead the hunters right to him." Malia said.

"No, we could find him first. There's no human that can track sounds faster than we can. And we've got the advantage, we've done this before. We know what we're doing, guys." Scott said as he nodded.

Lori was also holding Brett's Lacrosse stick that was found with Brett's blood. Liam took it from her hands and eyed it.

"How come I can't catch his scent?" I ask.

"He's masking it." Lori said.

"Can someone tell him not to?" Malia asked.

"He went this way." Liam said following the trail of blood that soon ended.

"The trail is gone." Malia said.

"Uh, maybe he just stopped bleeding." Scott said as he knelled into the ground.

"God, I think we should spit up." I spoke up. "Liam, Lori and I got this way, You guys go that way."

"Or maybe we go in four directions?" Lori suggested.

"We should stick together." Malia said .

"We have the advantage, it's four against one." Liam said.

"Not if we split up." Malia spit out. She was still kinda upset she didn't go to Paris.

"I've been doing this the past three months without your help. I think I can make a decision." Liam said as he looked straight at Malia.

"Well, if you're deciding to do something stupid and die, then go ahead." Malia said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Malia, it's just one hunter, one amateur who doesn't know what they're doing." I said as I looked at Malia her look could definitely kill.

"Scott?" Malia called Scott to defend.

Scott looked at the ground and there was like a print. He moved some of the dirt and there was a shoe mark.

"The hunter. He's covering his tracks." Liam said.

"There's another." Scott said as he moved the dirt over to reveal another pair of foot prints.

"Two of them?" Malia asked.

"Maybe more." Scott said as he stood up from the ground.

"How many hunters have you seen out here before?" Lori asked.

"A lot." Scott replied.

"Still wanna split up?" Malia asked Me while rolling her eyes.

Yup, she was definitely pissed about not going to Paris.

"We can deal with it. We just need to find Brett's trail." Liam said.

"No, we don't." Lori said, I looked over at the direction she was looking at and there were four rocks stacked on each other. "Rock balancing. Satomi taught us. It's him, and I know where he's going."

Lori lead us to the Tunnels where Brett was at. We walked into the tunnels and immediately there was blood. Lori went over and touched the blood waving it over her nose.

"He's been poisoned." Lori pointed out.

"That's why he's not healing." Scott said.

"What if he only has a few hours to live?" Lori asked.

"Well, if we howl, we can find him." Liam said.

"Yeah, but if he howls back he's gonna get killed. That's too risky." I said, It concerned me so much, losing Brett will take a pang in my chest.

"Who cares about risk. He could be dying." Lori said her voice toned out with pure worry.

"He's still moving." Malia said as she saw the trail of blood.

"We just need time to think." Scott said.

"I need him to know that i'm here, that i'm coming for him." Lori said as she looked around.

"Yeah, Lori's right. He has to know we're here." Liam said. He was going to howl, after I said it was too risky.

"Liam, wait!" Malia said but it was too late. Liam howled.

It's been around five minutes and Brett didn't howl back.

"Why didn't he answer?" Lori said as we walked around the tunnels trying to find anything.

"Maybe. Maybe he didn't hear us." I said as I shrugged my shoulders.

"Maybe he can't." Malia said.

"Lori! No!" Scott shouted out of the blue. He shoved Lori out of the way and literally two seconds later a wooden stake goes into his stomach.

"oh, my god." I whisper under my breath as I go and run over to Scott before he could fall.

Malia and Liam got the stake out of Scott and I sat him down carefully onto the ground.

"They new we were coming." Scott managed to say.

"Don't talk, just heal, and let us figure this out." Malia said as she ripped out some of her shirt and pushed it into Scott's stomach to stop him from bleeding.

"They've been a step ahead of us the whole time." Scott said.

"I'm sorry, but I can't wait around. We have to go." Lori said as she got up.

"We still have the numbers, three-to-two. We're faster, and we're stronger." Liam said.

"They're smarter." Scott said as he looked up at Liam.

"I don't care who's smarter or faster or whatever, my brother is going to die." Lori said as she looked at Scott.

"Somethings not right. That arrow, the trip wire, the poison. These aren't amateurs." Scott said as he tilted his head back.

"But they've never fought us before." Liam said as he shrugged his shoulders.

"And you've never fought hunters, Liam." Scott said, yeah he was right. Not even I have fought a hunter. "We need to stick together."

"I need to go." Lori said as she was about to take off I grabbed her wrist, not too hard, but hard enough to stop her.

"No, you're not going alone. I-I'll go with you." I said.

"Me too." Liam said as he got up from crouching with Scott.

"You guys don't know who they are and what they're capable of." Scott said .

"Look, I know who we are. We never ever give up, especially when it's someone innocent, when it's someone alone, when it's one of our friends." I said as I crouched down to look at Scott straight in the eyes.

"Okay." Scott breathed out. "Go, go. All of you, i'll catch up. Please, please be careful." He please and I nodded in response.

Malia stayed behind to help Scott heal.

Lori, Liam and I ran until we made it to a two-way path.

"Which way?" Liam panted. "There's gotta be something."

"Did he leave anything for you to find, like, like a signal, or, more rocks." I asked Lori.

"I don't see anything. I don't hear anything." Lori said as she turned her head to hear something.

"We'll find something. He's gonna be okay." Liam told Lori as he saw how worried she was.

"How do you know?" Lori raised her voice a bit.

"Cause, cause he's strong. He's really strong. He knocked me down on the lacrosse field more than once. Now, when I see him coming, I do everything I can to get the hell out of the way." Liam said as he chuckled at the memories of Brett knocking him out off his feet.

"Brett actually started playing lacrosse for me." Lori said as her eyes watered.

"For you?" Liam questioned as he looked at Lori with pure awe.

Brett wasn't a bad person, yeah, he was an asshole, but he was so sweat. I wish more people saw the good in him.

"I didn't have any friends at my old school. Devenford prep needed lacrosse players, and Brett practiced all summer. He got a scholarship and told them that they had to take me if they wanted him." Lori said which made my heart sting a little. He didn't deserve this.

I went over and placed my hand on Lori's shoulder.

"Hey, we're gonna find him." I said as I rubbed her shoulder softly m.

I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from tears pooling down my eyes. Liam turned his head to look back he looked back at me.

"What?" I asked him.

"Do you smell that?" He asked and I let go of Lori and walked over to where he sensed something.

"It's...It's sour." I said as I crinkled my nose.

"It smells like somethings rotting." Lori said.

"I think it's poison." Liam said .

"That's how we'll find him." Lori said and she ran off following the poison with Liam and I following behind.

After a few minutes we stopped to catch our breath.

"They all look the same, are you sure we're going the same way?" Lori asked as we crossed yet another tunnel that looks like we've passed it more than once.

"Positive. We've gotten lost down here before, more than once. Just follow the scent." Liam said.

"I hate that scent." Lori said as she crinkled her nose. The scent was getting stronger, which means we were closer to Brett.

"Wait, do you guys hear that? It's.." I said.

"A heartbeat." Lori said as she ran off to the direction. "Brett!" She yelled out when she saw him laying against the wall with blood everywhere.

"Oh, thank God." I whispered under my breath letting out a sigh of relief. I run over to Brett and kneel down in front of him.

"You found the rocks?" Brett said softly to Lori.

"Yeah, I found the rocks." Lori said with a soft smile as her eyes started watering.

"Daisy. Liam." Brett said as he sent me a small smile.

"We're gonna get you out of here." I said.

"You guys are dumbasses for doing this." Brett said as Liam, Lori and I helped him up.

"Is that your way of thanking us?" Liam said.

"No that's my way of calling you a dumbass, but thanks." Brett said the moment was soon interrupted when there was an explosion heard.

From the corner of my eye I saw smoke, there wasn't fire it was just an explosion.

"They're coming." Lori said m.

"Okay, go, Daisy, i'll hold them off." Liam said and I looked at him hesitant before leaving. "I'll be okay, Go! Go!"

I grabbed Brett from one side Lori on the other. We took of slowly to an exit. We saw a ladder and Lori and I managed to push Brett up first. Lori then went up the ladder which led to the street.

I got on the ladder and made my way, someone from the bottom grabbed my leg and swiped me down making me hit myself hard onto my back.

"What the hell!" I turned around and saw Liam.

Before he could even get a word out to explain to me why he just grabbed me , there was a loud sound of a car running someone over. I gasped and my hand flew to my mouth.

"No." I whispered out and climbed out the ladder. Liam jumped out fully transformed into his werewolf form.

He was angry, sad, so many emotions. I looked over and saw Brett laying down his heart beat faint and it came to a stop.

I croaked out a sob. Lori was next to him she grabbed his hand and tried to take away his pain. She couldn't, she was too weak herself, her heartbeat was faint.

"Close your eyes." She whispered. "I couldn't take away his pain." She said as she laid on him her heartbeat coming to a stop.

I walked over to them and grabbed both of their wrist. I knew they were dead, but I could accept that. I tried and no dark veins were popping up. I punch the ground as hard as I could and just sobbed as I held both Brett and Lori's hands.

From the back I heard Liam roar loud enough for the whole Beacon Hills to hear. Cars started to pull up and they saw Liam, i ran over to Liam and crouched him down.

"Breath, calm down." I managed to croak out. And he did he was slowing down his breathing. But it was too late. More cars started pulling up. Those people looked terrified.

•••

Scott let me go to sleep at Liam's since I was having a hard time sleeping and accepting what had happened tonight. I couldn't sleep, I had nightmares. I couldn't get over the fact that Brett and Lori were gone.

But in the end they both finally found there peace, even if it was them lying there without a heartbeat.
