-Evangeline-

C. Winters. The name rings in my ear as I watch the trees passing out the car's window. Today's the day he's supposed to arrive back home. Work this week without him was terrible. Hunter made me his personal assistant all week, fetching him coffee and other bullshit just to call me into his office. The only person who made me survive this week is Candy. Then again, that one incident happened yesterday that changed my way of seeing Candy forever.
-yesterday-
My phone vibrates. I roll my eyes as I see another message from Hunter.
"Can you get me coffee? Thx," I sigh as this is my third time in the past hour getting onto that stupid elevator.
I lock my computer, put my notebook into my desk, and lock the drawer. I walk to the elevator and push the button for the door the close. I lean my head against the elevator's wall and close my eyes, waiting for the doors to open. It's almost lunchtime, and all my energy has been drained.
The elevator's doors open. I walk onto the floor, walking into the break room. Who the hell drinks coffee this late into the day?
I pour the coffee from the pot into a cup. One lump, not two. I repeat as I heard a mind full of it from him when I gave him two lumps. I grab the cup and walk back onto the elevator. The doors open, and I walk out, looking around for Candy. Where is she? Is she on lunch already? I knock on Mr. Winters's office door.
"Come in," I sigh and open the doors. My eyes widen as I see Candy straightening herself with her hair a mess and shirt unbuttoned. Hunter wipes lipstick off his lips while grinning at me.
"Candy? What the hell are you doing?" She looks at the ground shamefully. I walk towards her and look her up and down as she smells like Mr. Winters and shame. I hand Hunter his coffee, and he smiles while taking a sip.
"Thanks, a lot, hun," I turn around and roll my eyes as I walk out of the room.
"Evangeline, wait!" I hear Candy yell as I press the button for the elevator.
"Wait for what? What to hear why you're sleeping with Hunter? You have a husband and a child. Why would you throw it all away for him?"
"It's not what it seems! I- Me and my husband have been going through a rough patch right now!" I sigh.
"How long has this been going on?" Candy rubs her arm and looks at the ground.
"Two years," I gasp.
"Two who years?!"
"It's not what you think! Hunter loves me!" I look at her like she's insane.
"Are you psycho? That creature in there doesn't love. It only prays to fuck," Candy crosses her arms.
"And yours doesn't?" I scuff.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Candy rolls her eyes.
"Please! We all know about the Winters brothers. They're both the same. What makes you think Hunter's brother isn't the same as him? He only uses you to fuck and then leaves," Candy covers her mouth as her eyes widen.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say that!" I get on the elevator and look at Candy disgraceful as the doors close.
That's the last time I spoke to Candy. The car vibrates against my head as it lays on the window. I don't think I could look at her the same. Not because of her actions with Hunter, but what she said to me.
"We're here, Mrs. Stone," I look out the window, seeing the car parked in the driveway of Mr. Winters's mansion.
"Thanks for the ride, Donny," I grab my bags and step out of the limousine.
I walk into the house and walk upstairs. I throw my bags down on my bed as I remove my hair tie from my hair. I walk into the bathroom and make sure the door is shut and locked before I strip out of my work clothes. I press the buttons on the wall, turning on the shower above.
Steam fills the room as I step into the scolding hot shower. It seems the hotter I have it, the better it washes the day away. My vanilla and peach shampoo, and vanilla body wash smell fills the air as I wash all the soap off me. I grab my towel and wrap it around me.
I grab a yellow with black flower print dress from the closet and slide it over my lingerie. I tie my hair into a ponytail and put a yellow bow on top. I slide on a pair of black tennis shoes over my yellow socks. Perfect.
I walk downstairs and into the kitchen. I pull out a round pan, a pie pan, and some ingredients.
"What are you making?" I turn around and see Mrs. Dontia smile.
"I'm craving something sweet, so I thought I'd make an apple pie," Mrs. D chuckles.
"An apple pie?" Do you need help?" I smile.
"I think I can do with one on my own. Cooking releases work stress," Mrs. D laughs.
"Okay, sugar, you call me if you need help, you hear? I'll be in the basement," I laugh.
"Of course, I will," I laugh as I crack an egg into a bowl. After hearing the door close, I suspect her to go to the basement.
I put my phone on the counter and play music as cinnamon fills the air while I mix ingredients.
"I hate the way you say my name. I hate your picture-perfect lips on mine. When you look at me, I'll have to turn my face. If I look too long, I'll never look away," I mumble to the song as I mix the pie dough.
"I hate the way I say words that I laughed at before," I mumble more as I knee the dough. I feel my arms wrap around my waist, and I smile. I pause my music.
"Mr. Winters? I didn't expect you to be back so soon?" I hear an impeccable laugh, and my stomach crunches.
"I didn't expect you to miss me?" I slap his hands off my waist and turn around.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Hunter Winters makes his cringy smile.
"I had to be here for my brother's welcome home party. I smelled something good coming from the kitchen, and I saw you," I roll my eyes.
"There's going to be no party, and I'm making an apple pie for my boyfriend," He chuckles.
"Of course, there's going to be a party! My brother won't be back until tonight, so we have plenty of time to plan it," I roll my eyes. He grins sinfully.
"You know there's flour on your nose? Let me get it for you," He wipes my nose with his thumb and sticks it in his mouth, slowly pulling his thumb out like it's the most delicious thing he's ever tasted. I roll my eyes.
"If you want to throw a party for him, fine, but keep it outside, or in the basement."
"If you keep rolling your eyes at me, Mrs. Stone, then we're going to have problems," He says staring me up and down, ignoring me. I scuff.
"Problems? What problems? I'm not at work, so you can't boss me around anymore. Haven't you had enough people to fuck this week with Candy and Charlotte?" I turn around and continue rolling out my dough.
"Problems that will evolve other matters," He whispers in my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
"If you keep whispering in my ear, I'm going to vomit," I say as I cut my dough.
"Don't act like you don't like it," Hunter whispers in my ear again, and I start fake gagging. He backs up, thinking I'm going to vomit. I laugh as I turn, seeing his discussed face.
"You think this is funny?!" I smile.
"Of course it is. Rejecting you will always be my pride," He looks me up and down.
"One day, Evangeline. I'll have you in my bed, begging me for more," I roll my eyes.
"Never going to happen when I keep rejecting you," He furrows his brows as he breathes heavily out of his nose, mad. He turns around and walks into the basement. I sigh as I see the door close behind him. I promise his charm will never let me open my legs for him.
I turn back to my cooking as I finish making the pie. I put the pie in the oven and set a timer on my phone.
"There. That should do it," I grab a towel and wipe my face of any flour. Hunter's nasty thumb on my nose makes me want to take a shower again.
I grab my phone and research lawyers in the area. After scrolling and finding men lawyers who are terrible, but cheap, I find myself upon Mrs. Waltons's name. Could it be Stephanie Walton's? I click on the link to her name and see her business email and full name. Stephanie Waltons, lawyer and business manager. I click on her business email.
"Hello. My name is Evangeline Stone, and I'm reaching out to you for help to obtain a lawyer," I send the email and my number to her business. Lord, I hope it reaches her.
I go back to the web to research some more. My phone buzzes as an unknown caller calls.
"Hello?"
"Evangeline! It's so great hearing your voice again!" I smile hearing Stephanie's voice.
"Stephanie! It's good to hear you, too. I'm glad you got my email," I hear her chuckle.
"Of course, I did. How could I let an opportunity to talk to you go away? So, what seems to be the problem that you needed to contact a lawyer?" I sigh.
"I need help from a lawyer for a child custody case," Stephanie pauses for a minute.
"For your child?" I hear I laugh.
"Heavens no, I need help with a child custody case for my sister. You see, my sister, Violet Stone, has had a divorce settled from her husband, and her husband is trying to now fight for her kids. She can't get them back until she gets a good lawyer and a good cause as to why she should have her kids. I know it's a lot to ask from you, but I would really appreciate it if you could help and be her lawyer. I'll make it up to you, and I'll owe you one," I hear Stephanie chuckle.
"Of course, I'll take her case! I'll do anything for you," I hear her say in a flirting tone. I laugh.
"Just send me the details, and your sister's phone number and email, and I'll work my magic," I chuckle.
"Okay, thank you so much, Mrs. Waltons! I really owe you one," Stephanie chuckles.
"I'll put you up to that. I'll talk to you more about it, soon," I smile.
"Okay, bye-bye," Stephanie hangs the phone, and I hear the oven beep. I take the pie out of the oven.
"Mmm, something smells good," I chuckle as I see Donny trying to get a slice.
"Hands off, mister. This pie is for Mr. Winters. If I knew we were throwing a party, I would have baked more pies, but Hunter only told me after I already made this one," Donny chuckles.
"Sounds like Mr. H. Winters," I roll my eyes. I smile.
"I better buy more pies if we're having this party, but I promise, you will get a slice of pie," Donny smiles.
"Thank you, Mrs. Stone. I will always remember your kindness," I look at Donny.
"What do you mean, remember? Are you going somewhere?" Donny looks at me and says nothing.
"Donny, what's going on?" Donny sighs.
"When Mr. Winters comes back, I won't be your bodyguard."
