Chapter 1

After so many years of suffering and torture one of the numerous escape plans formulated by what was left the tribe finally succeeded. Raven started going into labor around 9o’clock that night! Excitement, concern, and utter terror was felt by not only her brethren from the other units but especially her siblings because they knew the base doctors were ready to perform a C-section at any time.  If it were found out by one of the guards that had not been bribed that she was in labor; the sadistic, psychotic bastards that had experimented and exterminated them since before the US entered World War II would perform the surgery and take the babies as soon as they were born never to know their mother or her siblings except as fellow soldiers.

Oh, Nadia great goddess of twilight hear this plea…please letting our plan succeed!!!! Reign thought to himself as he rendezvoused in a rarely used storeroom with one of the conspirators who had gone to great lengths, risking not only his life but the lives of his loved ones to help them. “You’re certain everything is in place?” He asked of the rat-like man who was constantly looking around to be absolutely sure he wasn’t seen with a prototype.

“Yes, yes everything is in place. Here take this and go O-I996 before someone sees us together.” The man handed Reign a scrap of paper and quickly headed out of the storeroom and down a series of dark hallways to his room. I’ve risked far too much on this endeavor! I’m getting outta here tonight, even if it costs me my life!! But desperate as I am to see Sherry and the kids, I won’t risk it!! The last fool that was stupid enough to try and see his family…they ended up just like him dead, there’s no way I’m gonna allow that to happen to my youngins!!  He thought skulking into his room pulling out an already packed suitcase. He had been here long enough to know that this was not the first escape attempt; all the others had failed and that the specimens as well as anyone insane enough to try and help them ended up caught were immediately terminated.

My family & I thank you for all that you have been doing my friend! Reign thought as he watched the nervous little man scurry away then teleported back to the barracks where he and his sisters spent their time when not training or out on deployment. Raven was lying on the floor her entire body covered in sweat with her head in River’s lap, Raya doing what she could to assist. How are you doing Raven? He asked her telepathically.

I-I-I-I’m not sure I can be doing this… Reign w-w-what if something’s happening to me or worse to my babies! Raven responded as Raya brought her a cool washcloth then gently began to wipe her sisters’ face and neck trying to bring some relief. Suddenly Ravens’ entire body began to shake as she fought back her urge to scream from the pain of the contraction.

Reign these aren’t Braxton-Hicks anymore these are for to being real contractions… right now they’re far apart and thankfully her water hasn’t broken yet, but they are only going to get closer, and I don’t know how much longer the potions will being able to delay this! Raya mentally chimed into the conversation.

Yes, unfortunately little sister we don’t know if everyone is ready, and I refuse to be leaving anyone behind. However, we don’t know how much longer Raven is going to be able to hold on, so you’re right we’ve got to get her out of here immediately! Spread the word…prepare to move out! He telepathically ordered as he helped River carefully lift Raven slowly off the floor. While the two of them placed Raven’s arms around their shoulders Raya pulled a laptop that she had borrowed from one of the labs from its hiding place within a dimensional pocket she had created. Here are the activation codes Raya. Reign telepathically spoke to her as he handed her a scrap of paper. As she took it from his hand her fingers quickly became a blur on the keys of the computer. Within seconds the door to their barracks flew open and alarms were blaring. “Come on, come on, come on let’s go let’s go!!!!!!” The four of them rushed into the hallway and were joined by the remaining gypsies who knew about the plan while the others were simply relying on their training to remain calm; it was total chaos outside the barracks! Soldiers were everywhere trying to recapture as many of the escapees as they could; and while Reign lead those who remained of his tribe to an old ammunition warehouse the others were either teleporting to safety or headed for the perimeter fence. The orders that the soldiers had been given were explicit…stop the specimens from escaping however they could; preferably only wounding them before they could breech the perimeter, failing that lethal force was then to be used in order to protect G.E.N.E.S.I.S.

“Raya, Raya take Raven for a minute…I really hope this works!” Reign shouted bringing her back to reality and handing Raven to her while the others gathered in around him; cautiously he gripped the storage sheds’ door handle. The tiniest beads of perspiration were starting to form upon his whole body and after a split second of indecisiveness, he flung the door open. Everyone hit the ground, not an easy task for Raven, preparing for bullets to start flying or for an explosion to occur. When there was no explosion, no bullets nothing, a slow heaving sigh of relief came unbidden from his whole body. Slowly he led the way into the shed; the place was completely empty save for the dust, cobwebs, various rodent and insect droppings, not to mention the broken piles of wood that used to be crates still all remained cautious. Halfway into the shed Reign dropped down on all fours and using his genetically enhanced vampiric sight he found the lock on a hatch; pushing his finger down; then turning it slowly in a clockwise motion until he heard the tumblers drop into place. He removed his finger and waited…the hatch was supposed to pop open, but nothing happened! Then in a sudden fit of rage he ripped the hatch from the floor and flung it across the warehouse where it smashed through four crates and slammed into the wall where it stayed. With his whole-body heaving as his breath came in ragged pants he looked around and saw the doe-eyed looks of terror on the faces of his sisters and the others. After a few more heaving breaths to regain control carefully he took Raven off Raya’s shoulder, and she dropped down into the darkness. It was River’s turn next and then Reign carefully lowered Raven into the tunnel after which he dropped down.

“COME ON move, move, move!” He called and the three of them began to move at as quick of a pace as Raven could manage. Slowly like a tributary eventually becomes a river the others descended into the tunnel. Meanwhile there is chaos within the control room as a blonde-haired blue eyed man and woman were

“Oh, damn it to the depths of hell Andrew how could this have happened?! Ohhh, it doesn’t matter how; what matters is what we’re going to do about it!! And I know she’s going to blame me!!!”  A blonde-haired blue-eyed woman screamed as she paced and struggled to keep from pulling her hair out.

“Oh, Isis will you please relax; we’ll fix this before Andrea finds out. Thankfully we’ve managed to contain the virus with the firewalls thus far…all we have to do now is pulse the system. Then we can simply restore everything through the backup system.” Andrew calmly stated as he walked up behind his wife and attempted to gently massage her shoulders, but she was pacing like a caged tiger and either could not or would not stand still so he gave up on trying to calm her down and simply folded his arms across his chest. However, my dear, you’re correct when you say that Andrea is going to blame you. He thought to himself.

“Oh well that’s great just great!!!! All we have to do is pulse the system hmm and just how is Andrea not going to find out about that huh!!!!!?” Isis screeched as she temporarily stopped pacing and bore a hole through Andrew with her eyes. “So, Andrew is anything else that has conveniently slipped your mind to tell me?!”

“Well now I think the far more pressing question Isis, is why you would want to keep something of this magnitude from me…I also wonder why your comm. unit is off again?” An icy voice came from the small black box hanging on Andrews’ belt. The tone in that voice always made Isis feel inept, stupid, as though she were not good enough for Andrew…and that is precisely how the woman wanted it.

“Uuummm I wasn’t aware that my comm. was off Andrea also I didn’t want to needlessly alarm you.” Isis stated while quickly clicking her comm. to its on position and rolling her eyes.

“Humph I think in this instance it’s fair to say I’m not going to be needlessly alarmed; considering seventy years of my family’s work is going up in smoke!! If we had eliminated them years ago, we wouldn’t have this problem!!!” The tone in Andreas’ voice made Isis’s blood run cold. “How could this have happened Andrew…more importantly how will we fix this mess?!”

“Andrea, we couldn’t completely eliminate them until now because of the prophecy! It must and shall be fulfilled!!  And as I said all we need to do is pulse the system; then we can restore everything through the backup systems and then recover whatever we need to from the repository.” Andrew replied calmly as he too began to pace, albeit at a much, much more leisurely pace than his wife.

“That’s not possible Andrew…this virus not only wiped out all of our research, but it’s also allowed the specimens to escape. Now one would think that they would use their powers to try breaching the perimeter which the second and third generation classes have. Yet the remaining prototypes are instead making their way into the heart of the base towards an old ammunition warehouse. Now I have to wonder exactly why it is they are hell bound to get to that particular warehouse.” Andrea responded

“Who gives a fuck what’s so important about that building?!” Isis sarcastically responded as she finally stopped pacing then out of the blue kicked one of the few chairs in the control room clear across the room where it slammed into the wall and shattered into pieces much to the surprise of her husband.

“Well darling, I hope your outburst made you feel better because the chair certainly didn’t do anything to deserve its untimely death.” He switched his comm. to a different frequency and after a few brief words the door flew open, and a man rushed in.

“Commanders forgive the interruption, but I just received information that I felt you needed to know immediately…some of the men were sweeping the A&D barracks to flush out any stragglers and they found something. It seems one of the specimens is quite the artist; as a complete map of this base was found and underneath the ammunition warehouse is an escape tunnel!” Lt. Hallows quickly reported as he immediately assumed a parade rest position. “This explains why the activity at the perimeter has been the second and third generation series I’s as well as the first-generation series II’s and why the remaining prototypes are headed for the ammunition warehouse. They’re trying to escape via that tunnel!! I’ve already alerted all of our troops and they’re descending into the tunnel as we speak.”

“Well, I’m glad someone’s attempting to rectify this disaster however, Andrew I do have an ulterior motive for calling you…it seems that the virus that infected site A’s mainframe also struck site B at the exact same moment and permitted the specimens there to escape as well.” Andrea stated calmly, folding her arms behind her back. “So sadly, my dear brother it would seem we have many wolves amongst out sheep.”

“What no that was my legacy, my brainchild…those Special Forces soldiers would have been invaluable during the final strike!!!!” Andrew wailed in anguished rage. “We were finally starting to phase out the prototypes as well as grow the second and third generations! I finally had something to show that would have made father and grandfather proud! Once everything here was in order I would have returned to Greenland and downloaded everything to the repository!”

“Don’t worry Andrew I’m sure that some of the scientists…oops did I forget to mention that when site B’s mainframe was pulsed the virus not only survived but it triggered the self-destruct sequence, and the entire site was completely destroyed and everyone within a three-mile radius was killed?!” Andrea said sarcastically as a smile flashed across her face and she paced about in the underwater base off the island of Crete. “But don’t fret I’m sure you’ll be able to recreate the entire operation from your notes, right?”

“Terrific absolutely fucking terrific now what the hell are we supposed to do!!! If we pulse the system not only will that do absolutely nothing to the virus but it’s going to cause the self-destruct sequence to engage, and we’ll all be killed.” Isis responded in an equally sarcastic tone. Deep within the earthen tunnels beneath the base Reign his sisters and the rest of their tribe are slowly making their way to the sacred resting place of their ancestors. Unfortunately, they were forced to make many stops so River and Raya could help Raven through the pains of her contractions.

“UGH this is taking too long we’re never going to make it!!!!” A young man cried out impatiently as he paced. “At this rate we are going to be lucky back being used as guinea pigs!!”

“You obviously haven’t got a brain Damien or else it’s the size of a virus!!!!  Know you not the importance of the children that Raven is carrying? They are the ones foretold of in Ileana’s prophecy!” A young woman growled and slapped Damien in the back of the head.

“Of course, I know that these are the children from the prophecy…but I also know that I don’t want for to be dying in this stinking hole just because of them!” Damien growled back shooting daggers at the woman who slapped him. Nadia forgive me for all that I have just said and am about to say but you gifted me with second site and what I have foreseen makes me believe that we would all do better if we separate!!!!

“I’m being so sorry about this…I don’t think I’ll be able to!!!!!” Raven breathed her way through another contraction and then she and all her brethren within the tunnel sensed the enemy that now pursued them in the tunnel.

“All right breaks over we need to get moving…NOW!!!!  Just hold on Raven it shouldn’t be too much further now!!” Reign first barked and then mentally spoke to his sister cringing slightly as he felt just a small portion of Raven’s contraction. The tunnel was suddenly and violently shaken as an earthquake caused a massive cave in that separated Reign and his sisters who were in the lead from the rest of their tribe!!

CAN ANYONE hear me!!! River, Raven, Raya are you guys all right?! Reign shouted telepathically to anyone who could possibly hear him!!

Aaahhh yes Reign, yes, we can hear you we weren’t that far ahead of you in the tunnel!! We’re all right…b-b-b-but WHAT about the others?!!! River responded to her brother’s desperate cry.

I-I-I-I don’t know!!!! Great and merciful NADIA please hear my plea let my people be alive and ANSWER me!!!! Reign cried out telepathically hoping someone, anyone would respond!!!

Reign, Reign we’re all right!!! We’re dealing with the soldiers in the tunnel now…please cousin you must go on without us!!! It’s going to take too long for you to dig us out and Raven cannot hold out much longer!!! Elena’s voice could be heard in all of their minds.

NO, we’re not going to leave anyone behind!!!! You know what will happen if anyone is caught!!! Reign’s training as squad leader and commanding officer immediately kicked in as he sought some way anyway to break through the wall of massive chunks of earth!!

Cousin you mustn’t waste this opportunity!!!! This is Nadia’s will and what matters is the safe delivery of the children Raven is carrying!!!!! Elena responded while searching frantically for another way out.

“Reign, Reign please w-w-we MUST GO now!!!! Uh-oh I-I think my water just broke!!” Raven cried as she felt a warmth begin to run down her legs.

No, NO, NO this is NOT good…NOT good at all!!! Brother please we must GO, and we must go NOW!!!! River telepathically cried out to her brother.

Yes, you must go now…the children must be born within the sanctuary of our forefathers as it is foretold in the prophecy!!! Elena’s voice could be heard in all of their minds.

All right, all right River, Raya let’s go!!! Reign gave into what deep down in his heart he knew was the right decision but oh how it tore at his soul!! He reluctantly rejoined his sisters further up in the tunnel and the four of them hurried on their way. Meanwhile back behind the cave-in Elena and the others have finished dispatching the soldiers who were foolish enough to enter the tunnel and attempted to either capture or kill them!!

“Is that it…is that all of them?!” Elena shouted while still staring at the massive earthen barrier blocking their way to freedom.

“Yes, that’s the last of them!!!” Damien shouted while checking to make sure that no one had been injured, killed or worse CAPTURED!!!! Everyone appeared to be present and accounted for much to his relief.       “All right WE really need to get moving!!!” He shouted while stepping up to the wall.

“Yes, absolutely but the question is how are we going to get past THAT?!” Elena gestured towards the impasse. Nadia hear my plea; PLEASE help my people break free of this earthen tomb I beg of THEE!!!! As if in response to her prayer the earth once again began to violently shake…all of the boulders that had blocked their path crumbled into dust.

“Way to go Elena…now move out!!! More soldiers are coming, and we need to go before they get here.” Damien crowed while he and the others rushed into the tunnel.

I would love for to being taking credit for removing the boulders Damien…but it wasn’t me! Elena responded telepathically as she joined her brethren racing down the tunnel still hoping to catch up with Reign and the others before Raven gave birth.

My children your destiny lies upon a different path than theirs; Ileana’s prophecy will come to pass but to ensure that the Stovanovich magick remains in the world…you must separate from them!!! A Woman’s voice could be heard within the minds of the gypsies as they ran into the pitch black not needing any light. While Reign and his sisters entered the hallowed halls they immediately turned and went down into another tunnel that led them to a smaller chamber; Reign held Raven while River & Raya quickly set up the birthing area.

Raven you’ve got to for to be tryin to hold on just a bit longer!! Oh, great Nadia I cannot believe we’re for to be being finally in these sacred halls!! Reign mentally spoke to his sister as she leaned her head against his chest. River & Raya finished setting up the birthing area and Reign came and helped Raven to lay down.

“Alright now we for to have to being hurrying; Raven you’re for to be doing wonderfully. Now just being taking a deep breath and lay down here. Alright now let’s for to be being seeing how far dilated you are. Oh, ok ssssssoo it appears you’re only five centimeters dilated but your water broke!! We can’t wait we’re gonna have to a cesarean section!!!” River said as she tried to remain calm while
