Chapter fifty-three
â± "You didn't end up confronting Bruce" sterling said as he stared at me with a look of disappointment. He shook his head and leaned onto the gates.
As the cold wind softly hit us, I pulled down my sleeves before looking away from sterling.
He didn't want to enter my house, I guess he knew he wasn't welcomed there.
"No" I said.
"Why?"
Because Alec told me his secret, which changed everything.
"I changed my mind" I brushed it off.
"Why, did Alec change your mind? Did he do something... to you?" Sterling asked as he stared at me, trying to figure me out. Though, I stood quiet, pondering whether if I should tell Sterling everything.
"No, he didn't, things just changed" I started as I stared at the lonely street.
Lair.
"Obviously Alec did something or said
something to you because just yesterday, you were determined to confront Bruce and now you wanna stay quiet" he knew me too damn well to realize that I wouldn't back out of this, he knew something happened last night but he just doesn't know what it was.
"Just tell me what he said that made you change your mind about this?" Sterling pressured and so I said the only thing that came into my mind.
"The plan was to get his phone and try to get information, so I could prove that Alec and Bruce were working and to prove that they were doing bad things. But the problem was that he caught me, and I didn't get anything" I sighed, avoiding eye contact with him.
"That phone would've answered all the questions that I have and the worst part is that he now thinks I know something about him." I said.
"Did you tell him anything?" He asked, his voice sounding a bit panicked.
"Of course not!" I respond back angrily, finally looking into his eyes.
"I just need some more time, which means I need to have more time with Alec. He's going to be cautious around me but I'll try my best to get something out of him" I said as I try to think of a way so he can trust me.
"Thea, you know you don't have to do this. You could just pack up your stuff and leave this damn place. I'll leave with you," he said like it was that easy.
"I'm not leaving out of the place until see I Bruce behind bars, because I want justice and if I would leave, he would be out here, free, with no punishments. It wouldn't be fair." I said.
"It wouldn't but you don't have to do this by yourself, let me help you"
"By doing what?" I asked.
He stood quiet while giving me one of his looks.
"I have a plan, but you have to let me do it myself" he responded.
"What?" I asked, confused. What the fuck does he have over Bruce? Why hasn't he told me about this before?
"If you really want Bruce to get justice, let me handle it. Let me handle it by myself, and you're not allowed to ask me any questions about it" he looked at me with blank eyes.
"What the fuck? You can't just tell me you have something on him but not tell me what it is" I was angry, but afraid for him.
"Do you really expect me to let you just handle it?" I asked as I took a step towards him.
"Thea" he said as he shut his eyes.
"You have to tell me what you have over him" I said as I made him look at me. He finally opened his eyes and was trying to read his expression but it was impossible when he gave me nothing.
"I can't, I'm sorry" he said and I begged him with my eyes, I didn't receive anything.
"You should go" I said as I took a step back from him.
"Thea, you have to understand that I'm only trying to protect you" he was trying to convince me that he only wanted to protect me but I've notice the look he wore. It was a look that showed me that he was actually trying to convince himself.
"Just like you were trying to protect me when you pretended to be dead" I said.
He stared at me with regret in his eyes.
I stared at him, blankly.
I sighed softly before turning my back towards him and opening the gate. I shut it close and as I made my way inside I've heard sterling say something.
"Hate me all you want, but just know that I was only trying to protect you"
I shut the door.
