Three days had passed since Danâs triumphant victory in the preliminary exams.
At Danâs House
Dan stretched lazily, yawning as the sunlight poured into his room.
âWhat a beautiful morning,â he muttered to himself, rubbing his aching shoulders. âOuch, my body still hurts.â
Before he could get comfortable, his older sister Sofia burst into the room.
âHi hi, how are you doing?â she greeted, giving him a playful smack on the back.
âOuch!â Dan winced. âIâm doing good⦠but take it easy, will you?â
Sofia crossed her arms, pretending to pout. âI still canât believe today is your last day here.â Her eyes filled with tears as her voice cracked. âYouâre really leaving to become a knight.â
Dan smiled warmly. âItâll be fine. Iâll come back to visit, I promise.â
Sofia wiped her eyes and gave a small laugh. âOh, great. Youâd better keep your word!â
âI will,â Dan reassured her. âBut for now, I need to get going. Iâve got an award ceremony to attend.â
Sofia pointed a finger at him. âDonât forget to come back in time for your goodbye party!â
âYeah, yeah,â Dan replied with a grin as he headed out the door.
At the Town Square
The town square was alive with excitement. People gathered in droves to witness the ceremony.
Mr. Richmond, a noble in charge of the country, stood proudly at the podium, addressing the crowd. âHello, everyone! Today, we are here to celebrate the winners of the preliminary exams! These individuals will advance to the main knight exams!â
The crowd erupted into cheers.
âYeahhhh!â
âGo, go, go!â
Behind the stage curtain, Dan peeked out at the energetic crowd. âWow, what a turnout.â
A voice interrupted his thoughts.
âHey there, lightning kid,â said a young man approaching him.
Dan turned around. âYo. Do I know you?â
The man chuckled. âNot really. My nameâs Ulys. Iâve been watching your matches. I gotta say, Iâm impressed. For a kid two years younger than me, you fight like a seasoned warrior.â
Dan smiled. âOh, thanks. That means a lot.â
Ulys tilted his head, curiosity flickering in his eyes. âBut⦠I found it a bit strange that youâre here alone, without your family.â
Dan hesitated, his expression faltering. âItâs⦠a long story.â
Ulys quickly held up his hands. âItâs fine. You donât have to explain if you donât want to.â
Stolen novel; please report.
On Stage
Mr. Richmond continued speaking. âBefore we introduce the winners, letâs first give a round of applause to the man who supervised our tournament, Greg Denver, from the 13th branch of the Fire Nation!â
The crowd went wild.
âWooooo!â
âThatâs one hot man!â
Greg stepped forward in a sharp suit, exuding confidence. âThank you all for having me.â
Dan, still behind the curtain, couldnât help but marvel. âWow, he looks good in a suit.â
The ceremony proceeded, with Mr. Richmond calling the names of the 19 winners one by one. Finally, it was Danâs turn.
âAnd now,â Mr. Richmond announced, âour final winnerâa surprise contestant who gave us some of the best fights weâve seen in a long time! Letâs hear it for Dan Mori!â
The crowd erupted.
âDan, my man!â
âThis boy made me rich!â
Dan stepped onto the stage, overwhelmed by the cheers. Wow, the crowd really loves me.
He accepted his awardâa certificate and a bag of goldâwith a wide grin.
Greg approached him, giving an approving nod. âNice matches, kid.â
Dan smiled back. âThank you.â
After the ceremony, the winners were invited to a grand party at Mr. Richmondâs house.
âHeck yeah, Iâm going!â Ulys said enthusiastically, rallying the other contestants.
Dan, however, declined with a polite smile. âYou guys go ahead. Iâve got other plans tonight.â
Ulys shrugged. âSuit yourself. Letâs go, everyone!â
As Dan walked through the bustling streets, he muttered to himself, âWhat a day. Maybe Iâll stop by Damonâs place.â
Before he could go far, a familiar voice called out to him. âDan.â
Dan turned to see Greg standing a few steps ahead. âHuh? Oh, itâs you. Whatâs up?â
Greg grinned. âCome on, Dan. Letâs have a little chat.â
Dan hesitated but eventually nodded. âSure. What harm could one little chat do?â
Later at a Bar
Hours later, Dan found himself in a noisy bar. Greg, now drunk, was laughing loudly with a group of women surrounding him.
âHahaha! What a fun day! Keep the drinks and the girls coming!â Greg exclaimed.
Dan, sipping on a glass of juice, looked uncomfortable. âUh, Greg⦠are you sure you havenât had enough?â
Greg glared at him playfully. âHuh? You talkinâ to me like that?â
Dan shrank back. âEek! Sorry, sorry!â
Greg burst into laughter. âRelax, kid! Iâm just messing with you.â He clapped Dan on the back. âYouâre a funny one.â
Dan sighed internally. Why did I decide to hang out with this maniac?
Greg leaned closer, his expression suddenly serious. âSo, boy, what do you want to achieve as a knight?â
Dan straightened up. âWell⦠before I discovered my abilities, I just wanted to be a regular knight. But now, with this chi, I want to do something no oneâs ever done beforeâI want to become the Lightning King.â
Greg laughed heartily. âHah! Ambitious, arenât you? But do you even know the ranks of the knights?â
âOf course,â Dan replied confidently. âPrivate, Vice-Commander, Commander, Vice-General, General,Vice-Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Vice-Captain, and captain .â
Greg smirked. âYou forgot the Imperial Knights. And hereâs the kickerâonly the princes and princesses from each nation can compete for the King or Queen role.â
Dan froze. âWait⦠what?â
Greg leaned back, his eyes glinting. âYep. Since the Five Nations were created, there has been Five rulers of the air nation, Three rulers of the ice nations, Two rulers from the fire nation but Only the weapons and lightning nations ruler that has never been changed,That title has never changed hands. If you really want to become the Lightning King, youâve got your work cut out for you.â
Dan stared at him in shock. âWhat the what?!â
Greg laughed again. âI like your spirit, kid. But youâve got a long way to go. Learn how to use your abilities properly. Youâll figure it out during the main exams.â
Dan frowned. âWait, what do you mean?â
Greg waved him off. âYouâll find out soon enough. Anyway, Iâm off to the next bar. Iâm partying all night!â
Dan sighed as Greg stumbled away. This guy⦠I feel bad for his health.
At the Goodbye Party
Dan rushed back home just in time for the farewell party.
âYou made it!â Sofia cheered.
âWelcome, knight boy!â Damon added.
Dan grinned. âHow could I miss this? Letâs eat!â
The night was filled with laughter, food, and celebration. Dan spent time with his foster parents, his karate teacher, classmates, and his best friend Damon.
Later, Dan and Damon sat on the roof, staring at the stars.
âWhat a day, huh?â Dan said, leaning back.
Damon nodded. âI canât believe this is the last time weâll do this.â
Dan frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
âWell, youâre off on your knight journey, and Iâm traveling to see the world,â Damon replied.
Dan smiled. âDonât say never, my good man. Iâll come back to visit. Weâll write letters to each other.â
Damon laughed. âSure. Iâll write to your branch once you get drafted.â
âGood,â Dan said with a grin.
Meanwhile, at the Edwin Household
Ezekiel, the nobleâs son who had lost to Dan in the first preliminary match, sat in his room, seething with anger.
âDamn him,â he muttered. âI deserved to be there, not him. He just beat me by luck.â
A voice emerged from the shadows. âAnger⦠hatred⦠it reeks off you.â
Ezekiel spun around. âWho the hell are you?â
The voice chuckled darkly. âI wouldnât attack if I were you. My master sees something in you.â
Ezekiel growled. âWho is your master?!â
Another voice, smaller and more sinister, joined in. âHello, Ezekiel.â
Ezekielâs eyes widened. âYouâ¦â
The smaller voice chuckled. âShush. I have a proposal for you. Join us, and youâll have the power to take whatâs rightfully yours. Become a king in a new world order. The choice is yours,If you want to take what is rightfully yours, be a king, you will join us. If you want more time to decide i will give you a week to choose"
Ezekiel glared at the shadowy figure, his fists clenched. âWait... I already know what I want.â His voice dripped with resentment and determination. âI...â
The shadowy voice cut him off, its tone low and commanding. âGood. If that is your choice, then you will serve our purpose well. But remember, Ezekiel... there is no turning back.â
Ezekielâs heart pounded as the weight of the words sank in. The room fell silent except for the faint rustling of the night breeze. Whatever path he was about to choose, h
e knew it would forever change his destiny.
And as the figures faded into the darkness, a sinister grin crept across his Ezekiel's. âDan Mori... Iâll make sure you regret ever crossing me.â
