Chapter 327
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Clearing her throat, Astrid said slowly, a sly grin crossing her face, âToday, Iâve brought you all here to share some hopeful news. We all know Bria has been frail for ages. Weâve managed to bring together top global experts who will soon perform a critical surgery on her. The procedure, however, has only a chance of success. If it works, it will significantly improve Briaâs condition, and weâll no longer have to worry about her health. But if it failsâ¦â
Astridâs voice faltered, and her eyes welled up with tears, making it hard for her to continue.
Bria stepped in, comforting her with gentle words. âMom, itâs okay. I still have a shot. This is a good thing. Trust me, Iâll be alright.â
Kallieâs frown deepened. Were they really asking her to come all the way here just for this? Yet, the Nixon family seemed unaware of her strained relationship with Bria. There had to be another reason they wanted her here.
As this thought crossed Kallieâs mind, Astrid spoke up. âI hope everyone can stay with Bria at the hospital during her surgery. Knowing youâre there will comfort her. The doctor mentioned that the recovery phase is crucial. The success of the surgery largely hinges on this period. Hearing your voices will surely motivate her more.â
Bria was visibly touched, covering her eyes as she wept. âMom, this is all my fault. I always cause you worry with my health issues.â
Kallieâs frown tightened further. She suddenly felt a hostile stare upon her.
Looking up, Kallie caught Jenniferâs fake smile.
Jennifer said to Kallie, âKallie, despite your differences with Bria, sheâs suffering. Nowâs the time to put aside your grievances.â
Kallie smiled and replied, âIâm certainly willing to help, though Iâm not sure Bria would like to see me. After all, Iâm well aware of how much she dislikes me. If I were to stay in the hospital, it would only upset and anger her. But Jennifer, please donât think Iâm heartless. I promise to visit often.
The most important thing to note is that Iâm scheduled to return to Avalon the day after tomorrow. Thatâs been in the plans for a while. However, if Bria doesnât mind, Iâll make sure to stay in touch even after I go back.â
Bria, wiping away tears, scoffed. âSee, Jennifer? I told you Kallie wouldnât be on board. She probably hopes something goes wrong during my surgery.â
Abram slammed his hand on the table, glaring at Kallie. âYou can do as you please at home because of Tyroneâs affection for you, but Bria is your cousin. How can you just stand by and watch her suffer alone in the hospital?â
Kallie raised her eyebrows and replied, âArenât you going to be there? Why do I need to be?â
Jennifer replied with a hint of contempt, âThat was your thinking? Itâs unbearable watching you take advantage of everything the Nixon family offers while you disregard everyone else. You are not boarding that plane the day after tomorrow. You need to be there for Briaâs surgery. Weâre a family, and itâs time we started acting like one. If you refuse, Iâll have no choice but to tell the elders about your heartless behavior!â
Jennifer, seeing Kallie wasnât budging, doubled down on the guilt trip. She sneered, âOr do you want your own daughter to be labeled a heartless woman just like her mother? Donât come crying to me when she grows up and resents you for this.â
Kallie felt trapped, her stomach churning with frustration. This bunch was hell-bent on keeping her here. Even if she managed to slip away, theyâd probably drag her back kicking and screaming. What the hell were they going to do?
