Chapter 887
Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Clayton lifted Kallie in his arms, struck by how light she felt. Sadness gnawed at him. Kallieâs therapist had been his connection, though Kallie never knew. Heâd instructed the therapist to persuade her to let go of Jake, but Kallie resisted, rejecting all advice and medication, and her health had suffered for it.
Clayton gazed at Kallieâs pale yet pretty face, a fragile blend of illness and vulnerability. Something stirred within him, and on impulse, he leaned down and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. He knew sheâd be furious, but maybe this was his opportunity. He wasnât ready to give up.
Instead of rushing Kallie to the hospital, Clayton held her close, whispering, âKallie, you donât acknowledge my love for you, but thatâs fine. Iâll prove my love in my way. Iâll prove that no one loves you more than I do. If there were no trace of Jake in your life, would you finally consider me?â
An absurd thought crept into Claytonâs mind. Kallie couldnât move on from Jake partly because of their children. What if those three children were no longer there? She wouldnât consider committing suicide by then, would she? How could that be? No one with so much to live for would willingly choose death.
Perhaps it was time to change his strategy.
As Clayton pondered this, dawn approached, and an ambulance finally arrived. Though Kallie was just exhausted and battling a cold, Clayton collapsed. When Kallie woke up, she learned Clayton had found her, but the details were unclear as to how theyâd gotten down.
Now, his assistant shared the grim news.
âMr. Morgan was rushed to the ICU. His condition is critical.â
Pale, Kallie asked, âWhat happened?â
The assistant stammered, âI⦠I wasnât sure if I should say this, but Mr. Morgan wouldnât leave. He insisted on waiting for you. When you didnât come down after a while, he went up to look for you.â
gαâηÏνððsï¹cðm has it all âAfter finding you unconscious, he carried you down as quickly as he could. Itâs strenuous, but itâs nothing for healthy adults. However, Mr. Morgan has a heart condition from his earlier injuriesâ¦â
The assistantâs words hung in the air, leaving Kallie to grapple with a swirl of emotions. A wave of resignation and guilt washed over Kallie, her chest tightening as she processed what she had just heard.
âThis is my fault,â Kallie said, a flicker of guilt crossing her face.
Kallie hadnât expected Clayton to actually wait for her on the mountain for so long. Not only had he waited, but he had also sensed something was amiss and rushed up the mountain to find her.
Kallie was aware of her health risks. She had already instructed her people to call for an ambulance if they couldnât contact her within ten minutes. Perhaps she should have mentioned this to Clayton earlier.
Noticing Kallieâs troubled expression, the assistant cleared his throat.
âMiss Nixon, Mr. Morgan has done so much for you. Maybe you shouldâ¦â
âMaybe what?â Kallie interrupted, her eyes turning to ice.
The assistant immediately fell silent.
âI do owe Clayton a debt of gratitude, but that doesnât mean I have to marry him. There are other ways to repay someoneâs kindness. Weâre just friends. If you ever say something like that again, Iâll report you to Clayton,â Kallie continued coldly.
