Chapter 364
Beyond the Divorce
A Selfâdestructive Love I knew it was too late to say anything. Judging from the situation that night, Ivanna was already in too deep. That man had already captured her heart.
Ivanna let out a heavy sigh. âYouâve been through it, so you should know that matters of the heart are something no one can truly explain. When you love, you love. Thereâs no such thing as should or shouldnât.
Ivanna was trying to rationalize with herself, and she wasnât wrong. It was just like Lauren and Oliver, or me and Atlas. We gave in despite knowing it was pointless because of that heartâpounding sensation.
âWhy did you fall for this trap after not seeing each other for so long?â Lauren was frustrated and asked,â Do you realize how painful this kind of selfâdestructive love is? Canât at least one of us find some happiness?â
Laurenâs tone conveyed helplessness. Unlike Lauren, who had hope, my relationship with Atlas was like a fleeting star.
âYou seemed to have a clear head and many promising opportunities ahead. I thought Atlas would make Chlo happy, but⦠What is up with us? This is how Iâll spend my lifeâhalf alive, half dead. You canât keep leaping into the fire pit!â
âCanât you guys offer me some support?â Ivanna pleaded with us.
âIâm not trying to scare you, but this type of love is irreversible! Lauren said it seriously.
I reclined and placed my injured foot on the coffee table, staying silent âI know thereâs no future, butâ¦I canât control it!â Ivanna murmured.
Lauren asked, âWhat does he do?â
â¦Jared Attwood,â Ivanna said in a barely audible voice.
âWhat?â Lauren was clearly shocked. âIvannaâ¦â
I looked at Lauren, puzzled. âWhatâs going on?â
âYou havenât heard of Jared Attwood? Sheâs in love with Jared Attwood!â Laurenâs fingers started trembling.
1..have not. Jared.. Attwood?â I seemed confused and sald, âThatâs a strange name.â
âStrange? Damn it⦠Heâs even stranger!â Lauren slumped onto the sofa, seemingly at a loss.
âWhatâs happening? Donât keep me in the dark!â I looked at both of them, each wearing a more perplexing expression than the other.
*Jared Attwood. Anyone in Foswoodâs scene will know who he is.â Lauren sounded a bit exasperated.
Ivanna, youâre playing a highâstakes game this time. Iâm impressed.â
flooked at Lauren in confusion. âWhy do you say that? Stop acting so mysterious!â
Lauren was speechless. âIâm being mysterious? She stepped on a landmine!â
âCan you speak English?â I was getting anxious.
âSheâs fallen for the king of the gray area. He has an incredibly fierce wife. They call Jared âgrayâ
because his wife is ruthless and evil, like a black rose.â
I suddenly felt a shiver down my spine, looking at Ivanna. She seemed even more vulnerable now.
âYouâve got some nerve, daring to get involved with him,â Lauren said.
I asked calmly, âYou donât need to be anxious, Ivanna. How did you come to know this person?â
Lauren answered my question before Ivanna could. âHeâs the owner of the Emgrand Nightclub. He also owns the famous Emgrand Hotel, Emgrand Country Club, and Emgrand Racecourse. Anything with the name Emgrand belongs to Jared.â
Laurenâs voice was weary as she spoke. I caught on. These businesses required quite a foundation to run.
âIâve heard of this person. Heâs got quite the reputation, but he keeps a low profile. Very few people truly know him. Heâs unfathomable.â Lauren looked at me. âRumors say heâs quite cunning, too. There are many different stories.â
I tried to recall that blurry figure once more. He was a tall, refined man with a powerful presence. I regretted not getting a good look at him.
I couldnât fathom how Ivanna got acquainted with him.
âIvanna, If heâs like that, itâs better to cut it off,â I gently advised Ivanna.
