Chapter 207
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 207
Gina turned her gaze toward Andy. âWhat clue are you referring to?â
Andy explained, âOn the day you were poisoned, I encountered peculiar man near my rented place. It was broad daylight, yet he concealed himself completely as if avoiding being seen.â
âIs that all?â Gina inquired.
âThatâs⦠all,â Andy replied somewhat hesitantly, realizing he hadnât provided much helpful information that could be
considered a clue.
âDid he have any distinguishing features? Why did you find him peculiar?â Ginaâs question jogged Andyâs memory.
âI remembered one thing. He had a distinctive feature: golden hair, quite unconventional! He looked like a ruffian, a rogue. I found him strange because people in our neighborhood usually recognize each other, yet he was unfamiliar. His demeanor didnât seem trustworthy!â
A blond manâ¦.
Oliviaâs heart skipped a beat.
The fact that Andy encountered the blond man, and worse, Andy disclosed it to Gina!
Whyâs this lo
âDarn it! man blabbering about everything?
âAlright, I understand,â Gina acknowledged. This clue was still somewhat broad but not entirely worthless.
As Andy prepared to leave, he couldnât resist another attempt. âMiss Miller, Iâve given you a clue. Iâm not letting you off the hook for the repair costs without something in return: Speaking of which, Miss Miller, do you have any enemies?â
âEnemies targeting you, poisoning you, and dragging us into it for no reason. Clearly, weâre innocent bystanders in this mess. If it werenât for this incident, we wouldnât be caught up in all of this. Itâs only fair to compensate us, donât you think?â
Andy seized the opportunity to bargain for himself.
Cathy couldnât bear it any longer. âLetâs go.â
Andy waved it off. âAlright. Letâs go.â
But just a couple of steps away, Andy turned back. âMiss Miller, Cathy hasnât fully recovered from the poisoning. She still needs further treatment at Prover Hospital. Can you waive the medical expenses, like you mentioned earlier?â
âOf course, Gina replied calmly.
âThatâs enough, Andy,â Cathy couldnât tolerate it any longer. Andy was pushing his luck too far.
âAlright then, This is for your good. Come on, letâs get you settled in at the hospital,â Andy said, guiding Cathy away.
Olivia remained kneeling on the ground, her heart racing with anxiety at the mention of the blond man. She kept her fixed on the floor.
âYou should depart as well,â Gina said calmly.
Olivia was taken aback, looking up at Gina lying in the hospital bed. âYouâre letting me go?â
Ginaâs expression was indifferent. âYou won the bet, didnât you? Without evidence, I canât pursue legal action against you. Iâm allowing your departure because I lack grounds to do otherwise

âBut remember, time will reveal all secrets. Cherish what little freedom remains to you.â
Olivia trembled with anger. Gina spoke as if releasing her was a favor. She vowed to reclaim her power and crush Gina once again!
Not daring to linger, fearing Gina might change her mind and detain her, Olivia rose to her feet. Her legs felt numb from kneeling for so long, and she stumbled out of the room.
Gabriel shot a cold glare at Oliviaâs retreating figure, his eyes expressing a desire to tear her apart.
As Gabrielâs gaze shifted back to Gina, his piercing demeanor softened into a tender warmth, âGina, are you letting her go?â
Though Gabriel contemplated imparting a lesson to Olivia, he deferred to Ginaâs discretion on handling the matter.
âShouldnât we give her a taste of her own medicine before setting her free? Gina remarked casually.
âIf itâll make her think twice, perhaps, Gabriel conceded..
âNo, she wonât learn from a mere thrashing. Her hatred toward he runs deep, and mental torment can be more enduring than physical pain. Violence wonât resolve the issue. Setting her free is granting her the chance to either mend her ways or face her demise. If she wishes to challenge me, Iâll oblige, but she must be prepared to face the consequences,â Gina explained.
Gabriel nodded in comprehension.
The door to the ward creaked open, and Michael hurried in.
âGina! Are you alright?â he exclaimed.
Taken aback by Michaelâs sudden appearance, Gina replied, âIâm fine, nothing to fret about.â
âHow can you look alright with that pale complexion? Michaelâs voice trembled with concern, entirely disregarding Gabrielâs presence at the bedside.
âArenât you supposed to be in Oriata City?â Cina remained composed despite Michaelâs agitation.
âI hurried over as soon as Dylan informed me about your poisoning. They say it was ten times the regular dose. Are you truly alright?â Michael persisted, his worry palpable.
âI seem fine now, donât I? Gina responded calmly,
âBut Dylan mentioned there might be lasting effects on your organs,â Michael continued, glancing at Gabriel before continuing sarcastically, âIf only you still had the Spirit Orchid. I wouldâve come in handy now.â
Ignoring Michaelâs implication, Gabriel turned to Gina. âForgive me, Cina. Iâve exhausted the Spirit Orchid.â
With a disdainful snort, Michael pressed on, âMedicinal herbs are scarce. Wouldnât it have been prudent to keep so reserve? What if someday, someone close to you gets hurt and needs it? Wasnât that worth considering?â
Though Michael didnât mention anyone by name, his accusation against Gabrielâs selfishness was unmistakable.
Gabrielâs expression turned icy as he shot Michael a glance, tension thickening between them.
Gina couldnât quite comprehend the underlying tension between them. Had there been no prior conflicts? Then why d she sense this mutual animosity?
âMichael, itâs not simply a matter of keeping the Spirit Orchid or not. Setting that aside, nobody could have predicted the events of today. Besides, the amount of the Spirit Orchid I gave Gabriel was already limited. He got injured while protect me, so I provided it to aid in his recovery. I donât need it now, and itâs unfair to blame Gabriel,â Gina explained.

Her unwavering trust in Cathy was why she hadnât been cautious about the pastries Cathy sent over.
Gabriel couldnât help but smirk upon hearing Ginaâs defense. He shot Michael a meaningful glance, almost as if claiming a silent victory.
Michael glared back at Gabriel and took a deep breath. âGina, you donât seem to be in good spirits. You should rest more. Some people donât realize that patients have limited energy and keep bothering them by lingering in the hospital room.â
Gina remained silent, feeling the atmosphere growing increasingly tense.
