Chapter 209
When She Stops Playing Nice
Chapter 209
âI donât want any other reward. All I desire is Ginaâs life. I want her dead.â Oliviaâs eyes blazed with fury.
âYou can rest assured. Our goals remain aligned, the blond man patted Oliviaâs shoulder reassuringly.
âAlright then, until our paths cross again. I look forward to seeing you bring your catch when we meet again. Awaiting good news from you.â
Gina woke from her slumber, habitually checking her phone, but found no messages from Gabriel.
He must be occupied, Gina thought.
She rose from her bed, preparing to head to the restaurant for a meal. Despite the availability of room service, she felt the urge to move around.
âGinalâ
As Gina heard her name called by a familiar voice, she frowned but kept walking without slowing down. Nevertheless, the person behind her quickened their pace and soon caught up.
Ella stepped in front of Gina, blocking her path.
âGina, whatâs wrong? You look pale, are you feeling ill? Where does it hurt?â Ellaâs long-dormant maternal concern seemed to awaken at that moment, and she eagerly expressed her concern.
Gina glanced at her indifferently. âItâs none of your concern.â
A pang of hurt flashed in Ellaâs eyes, âGina, I do care about you.â
Gina looked at her and let out a wry chuckle.
Remember that year when she returned to the Miller family? One night, she had a fever. She went to the kitchen to get some water and medicine. Ella heard the commotion and rushed over, her words tinged with sarcasm.
âWhy are you running around when youâre sick? Donât infect the whole family, you troublemaker.â
âItâs just a fever.â
âA fever? Who knows if youâre telling the truth or not? Did you catch some strange illness in the countryside to curs What rotten luck!â
At this moment, Ella gazed at her with a caring expression, genuinely expressing her desire to show concern.
However, Gina was now devoid of any longing for familial bonds or expectations of family care
âMother? Please spare me the title. It disgusts me,â Gina retorted with a steely gaze
Ellaâs expression paled, stunned by Ginaâs unyielding demeanor.
Yet, Ella persisted in attempting to portray her maternal affection âGina, I understand you may seem tough on the sur but you have a soft heart within. You must have arranged for Jasonâs admission to Prover Hospital, right? Otherwise, ho could he have been admitted so promptly? I know deep down you still have us in your thoughts.â
âI realize Jason and I may have mistreated you in the past, but those times are behind us. Whenever youâre ready to embr us again, weâll be here. Take your time; reconciliation requires patience.â

Chapter 209
Gina, listening to Ellaâs words, felt as though she were being subjected to a form of self-hypnosis.
However, Gina dispelled Ellaâs illusions with a direct rebuttal. âYouâre mistaken. I didnât orchestrate Jasonâs hospitalization. It was merely a stroke of luck. Another patient canceled their reservation, and Jason was the beneficiary.â
Ella couldnât believe it, convinced that Gina was refusing to acknowledge her involvement. âThe timing is just too perfect, Gina. I know Prover Hospital is well-managed, but Iâm still worried. Iâve been occupied with looking after James lately and neglected you. Itâs my fault, so Iâd like the chance to make it up to you, alright?â
Growing impatient, Gina responded curtly, âI donât need it. And your attempts to please me are laughable. Your display of maternal affection is for the director of Prover Hospital, not for me. Letâs end this. I have no interest in your performance.â
Ella widened her eyes, appearing utterly heartbroken. âGina, do you see me as your enemy now? Iâm sorry for our past mistakes. I owe you an apology. Iâll apologize, even if it means kneeling before you!â
With tears streaming down her face, Ella knelt before Gina.
Gina remained impassive.
Here it came again.
Gina had grown immune to Ellaâs attempts at manipulation, but it was almost comical how Ella persisted in resorting to such emotional tactics. Unfortunately, Gina no longer acknowledged Ella as her mother, so she couldnât be swayed.
Gina remained stoic as she walked past Ella.
Ellaâs sobs echoed, but they failed to elicit any reaction from Gina
âElla!â Noah hurried over. âWhatâs happening? Why are you kneeling?â
Noah looked up and spotted Ginaâs figure, âGina, stop right there! What did you do to Ella?â
Noah helped Ella to her feet and then swiftly caught up to Gina,
Once again intercepted, Ginaâs expression darkened. âTd rather not resort to violence, but if you keep provoking me, Iâll consider taking legal action. Coincidentally, weâre right by the hospital. You can seek medical attention here.â
Noahâs frustration was evident. âGina, I know youâre a big shot now, with all your fame and wealth flaunting your power. But we havenât been bothering you lately, have we? What did you do to Ella to make her upset so much?â
âAnd making her kneel!â
âIt wasnât Ginaâs idea for me to kneel. It was my own choice. I hope that by doing so, Gina can forgive us.â
Noah was momentarily speechless. âElla, whatâs the point in talking to someone so heartless? Weâll never measure standards in this lifetime!â
Noah sneered, âDidnât she imply that our interest in getting close to her was solely because of her role as the hospit director? Gina, are you really that naive? When you returned to the Miller family, why didnât you reveal your true id Why keep us in the dark about how capable and impressive you are?â
âShe went as far as pretending to be a simple country girl, leading us to misunderstand her! And thatâs what set off everything that followed!â
Noahâs implication was clear-it was all Ginaâs fault for pretending to be a âcountry girlâ from the start.
âYou didnât disclose your hidden identity because you never truly considered us family, fearing we might ask for your he right?â
