Chapter 461
Heartbreak Brings Mr. Right
âQuit lying to yourself,â Mercer jeered, his own voice laced with self-mockery.
âYouâre scared of me, and I despise you.
Weâre never going to work.
â
Nancy lifted her head, her eyes brimming with tears.
âYou despise me?
Why? You were the one whoâ¦â
âIf it hadnât been for you, I wouldnât be the person who I am now!â
Mercerâs voice boomed, his anger flushing his face a deep red.
Nancy gazed at him, feeling as if a knife twisted in her heart.
She wondered if he blamed her.
If he hadnât tried to save her, he might have avoided all the trouble.
Was it her fault he was hurting?
âMercer Aston, I never asked for your help,â Nancy said, her voice rough with emotion.
Mercer glanced at her, his hands trembling with the effort to remain calm.
His expression was icy.
âThe biggest mistake of my life was saving you on a whim,â he said.
With that, he stormed off.
Nancy, usually the cheerful one, crumbled.
She sank to the floor, wrapped her arms around her knees, and sobbed.
Mercer headed to the restroom to clean up.
Then, he burst back into their private room, startling everyone with the slam of the door.
Annoyed, he snatched his coat from the couch and muttered without looking up, âGot something to take care of, I need to head out.
â
The others caught sight of his damp attire and couldnât hide their surprise.
âMercer, did you take a swim in the toilet or what?â
Mercer bit back any further explanation.
As he headed out, Nicolas seized his wrist, inquiring in a deep voice, âWhatâs going on?â
Only then did Mercer remember that his brother was there.
Clutching Nicolasâs arm, he said, âHey, Nicolas, a producer mentioned something to me for you today.
Itâs too loud in here.
Can we talk?â
Nicolas, curious, donned his sunglasses and stepped out with Mercer.
They found a quiet spot outside.
âWhatâs the matter? Tell me.
â Nicolas asked, his voice even.
Mercer turned around, yanked off his sunglasses, and looked Nicolas dead in the eye.
âAre you falling for Selah?â
Nicolas paused and said, âWhat do you mean by that?â
Mercer saw the truth in his reaction.
Pointing to himself, he warned, âI donât know what youâre thinking, but steer clear of Selah.
Sheâs Arturoâs girl.
â
